I saw the interview as well. Lanning clearly is very thankful for all the coaches he has worked under. Below is the quote, per CBS Sports: "I think it's impressive that guys like Kirby have been signing the No. 1 class in the nation without any NIL money this entire time," Lanning said jokingly. "Obviously, Coach Smart took a little shot at us. If you want to be a top 10 team in college football, you better have great support. We have that." Kirk Herbstreit: "I May Have Oregon Winning It All"

Or is Herbie just trying to reduce the expectations/pressure on his precious Ohio State... -
Come on Fickel, Tell us Something We Don't Already Know

Yikes. You often don't hear coaches that critical of other coaches and programs, in public. -
UCLA doesn't have the booster support for athletics (not even for mens basketball).
-
Well, that was UCLA's entire pitch to the B1G on why they should get in ahead of Oregon and get the full media share...
-
No, thank you, but I would take Stanford over UCLA....

The Rose Bowl and parade on New Year’s Day is a fantastic tradition that Pasadena will do anything to protect. I’m sure that they could find a better alternative in the West Coast for semi- and finals (SoFi, Las Vegas, Phoenix).

I don’t have any issues with Oregon being selected behind Ohio State. They will have one, if not the best, defenses in the country and are also loaded with talent. Coach Day has something to prove as a head coach (as does Dan Lanning). Oregon also seems to do better, historically, as the underdog. At least the regular season game is at Autzen!

Exactly. Now Oregon’s supporters can legally pay recruits and players (vs. secret handshakes with envelopes of cash changing hands, under the table). It has leveled the playing field for programs like Oregon. I do wish there were more rules (e.g., team salary caps, “rookie scales”) and transparency re: NIL.

UCLA's Schedule Cancellations: Will Oregon Do the Same?
OregonDucks replied to Thomallister1291's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oregon State will be a mid major soon, if they are not already. Conference re-alignment is going to kill their recruiting and resources. So thankful that Oregon got off the sinking ship… -
Danno and Day's Recruiting is Shaking Up the Folks in Dixie
OregonDucks replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
FSU and Clemson feel more like SEC teams to me both geographically and culturally. Notre Dame and North Carolina would be better fits in the B1G, IMHO. However, if the B1G wants to continue to compete with the SEC they should be looking to add the best programs possible. Miami to the Big 12? -
Canzano: Overheard at the Pac-12's Las Vegas Cocktail Party...
OregonDucks replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Bay Area schools have always been academic snobs and likely killed PAC-12 expansion options because they didn’t want to associate with certain universities. I was really hoping that Cal and Stanford would be invited to join the B1G. They certainly have the academics and are competitive in other sports. Then the B1G would have the entire West Coast from Seattle to Los Angeles and could have created pods for scheduling purposes. -

Danno and Day's Recruiting is Shaking Up the Folks in Dixie
OregonDucks replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It sounds like the SEC hoped to build a wall around the State of Texas with the addition of the Longhorns. Hasn’t happened as expected… -
It would be great to keep Dante just under the threshold for a redshirt so that he can get some snaps to work on his game. Hopefully, Oregon can get a huge lead and Dante can play most of the second half in some of the earlier games so that he is ready, if needed. Shouldn’t be a problem against the cupcakes on our schedule like Oregon State…

And this is why recruiting at a high level and player retention is so important - it results in depth. Dan Lanning wants to play aggressive, physical football. That is inevitably going to lead to dings and injuries, especially with a lengthened season (and playing 8 straight weeks this season). We need depth and a minimal drop off from the starters to manage through the long season to achieve the team’s goal. The Alabama’s and Georgia’s have been able to get to that level and it’s paid off with multiple national championships. Hopefully, Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are on the same trajectory.

Oregon's Recruiting Success: "...the Quiet Part Out Loud."
OregonDucks replied to Log Haulin's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Having the highest NIL (payroll) does not guarantee success (see Texas A&M). You also want the right players, who fit the system, want to be in your program, will work hard, and be good teammates and representatives of your university. -
Note How FEW Recruits Oregon Has on Ranking Board...
OregonDucks replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Alabama has a lower average star rating than Oregon’s. They are only ranked higher, at this point, because they have more commitments. Let that sink in. Maybe Alabama’s NIL donors stepped up or Alabama just sells itself? It’s in a hotbed of talent, which can’t be said of the PNW. Still don’t think DeBour is a good recruiter but I’ll never oppose a dig at the mutts up North. -
QUAACK! Ducks Land Rivals 5-Star 2025 WR Dakorien Moore
OregonDucks replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
As they say, “the cream will rise to the top.” I wouldn’t bet against Dante Moore and obviously our coaches felt the same way since they recruited him a second time, as a transfer. Dante throws a beautiful, accurate ball. Hopefully he is able to learn how to play the position at this level this year (e.g., game prep). How many QBs have been written off early in their careers only to be “late bloomers”?
