  1. I think that it's the same issue that we see on 4th and short. Lack of creative play-calling in short yardage situations. Will Stein should look at some of the plays that other teams run on short yardage situations that scheme players WIDE OPEN and/or give the QB a RPO option. USC used to run a QB bootleg play with two "receivers" running in the same direction as the QB downfield - one short and one intermediate option. The QB could also run the ball, if a defender chose to cover the short passing option. It was darn near impossible to stop. Kenny Dilligham used to "borrow" plays that he saw others run. Kyle Shanahan is an offensive genius and uses play-action and motion to confuse defenses, and scheme players wide open. Stein should watch some 49ers games.
  2. Per multiple sources. Elko was the former DC at A&M. Sources: Texas A&M, Elko agree on deal to make him new coach - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Texas A&M and Duke's Mike Elko, a former Aggies defensive coordinator, have reached an...
  3. I’m sure that Dan Lanning learned a few things from Kirby Smart (and Nick Saban) about evaluating players. Oregon is certainly prioritizing the defensive line and the number of elite players that he is bringing in at the position is amazing (as good as anyone). I was thinking the same thing. In 2-3 years when Dan has a roster of players he’s recruited and developed, how good is Oregon’s defense going to be, if he’s gotten this much improvement in season #2? Oregon’s offense might take a slight step back without Bo Nix at QB but an elite defense can win you 10+ games with a solid offense. Win now but the future is 😎.
  4. Thank you for coming to FishDuck to share your thoughts this season. Classy visiting fans, who bring a different perspective, make OBD a better place. I’ve been a fan of the Florida program since the Coach Spurrier’s Fun-and-Gun Offense and have always wanted to see a game at The Swamp. Like Florida did in 1996, Oregon is looking to win our first national championship in football. We can only hope this is the year. Hopefully, you’ll change your mind and visit OBD in the post season but, if not, have a happy holidays and wonderful offseason!
  5. In what poll? The College Football Playoff poll is the only one that matters...
  6. Jayden Daniels stats are crazy. 3,500+ passing yards AND 1,000+ rushing yards with 50 total touchdowns. He also has the highest QBR rating in the NCAA. If you take away the team’s win-loss record, Daniel’s would be a slam dunk winner. I never understood why the Heisman became an award for the best player on one of the best teams. It’s supposed to be for “most outstanding player in college football.” It says nothing about team success or that it has to be a QB (or RB). I love Bo Nix and hope that he wins but I could see the argument for Daniels. Both are having phenomenal seasons. 2023 College Football Season Leaders Total QBR | ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Visit ESPN to view College Football Total QBR for the current and previous seasons
  7. The TV announcers mentioned that the UW field goal kicker missed 3 of his last 4 attempts. That could explain both the aggressiveness on the play calls and Penix hiding his face.
  8. Huck the Fuskies! 👏👏 👏👏👏
  9. Washington is ripe for a beatdown. Hopefully Oregon can oblige next Friday...
  10. Thanks for helping us out DJ...
  11. UW might have been a bit guilty of looking ahead to the Pac-12 Championship Game. Oregon really needs UW to win The Apple Cup. Hopefully it takes them 6 overtimes to do so...
  12. Major choke job by Auburn's defense. How do you let an Bama receiver catch the ball?
  13. Down by 4 with 43 seconds left. 4th and forever.
  14. I would go with the TD to end the first half. Oregon State scored a TD to close the gap to 7 and was getting the ball back to start the second half. They seemed to grab a bit of momentum going into the halftime locker room, and then this happened... Talk about breaking Oregon State's hopes.
  15. Texas A&M's defense is ranked #26 in ppg against and #8 in total defense. Oregon State's is #38 in both categories.
  16. The B1G and SEC hype machine are on another level. Unfortunately for the Ducks, I think that they'll still favor Ohio State and Michigan, even when we are in the conference. Oregon needs Washington to win this Apple Cup and then to win big against Washington!
  17. To be fair, Daniels had another 120 yards on the ground. Dude is a heck of a college football player and you can make the case that either deserve the award.
  18. I'm not sure what the right call is here. Perhaps Lanning should have had the true freshman kick the 2nd kick in the Oregon State game or replaced Camden weeks ago, when we all saw that he had the case of the yips. I will not criticize Dan Lanning for going for it on 4th down deep in an opponent's territory, as I'm sure that he has more confidence in Bo Nix and our offense than Camden Lewis.
  19. Yes. He's 50/50 at this point.
  20. LSU has taken the lead in the 4th and Daniels is throwing some dimes and broke off another huge run. The Heisman is going to be close and, hopefully, the Southern voters don't pull off any shenanigans.
  21. If Oregon State were financially responsible, they should assume that they will get no better than Mountain West annual revenue and pay a coach in line of what Boise State, Fresno State and other non-Power 5 programs have typically paid their head coach and assistants. It appears that's somewhere been $1 and $2 million per year for a head football coach.
  22. That's a big blow to Oregon State's program. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a mass exodus of players in the transfer portal, some of whom may follow Smith to MSU.
  23. I agree, Charles, and thank you for this forum to discuss OBD. One thing that Duck fans should mentally prepare for...whomever is Oregon's QB next season, will be a step back from what we are witnessing this year from Bo Nix. It would be unfair to compare anyone to Bo and not expect a slight step back in offensive production next year. Bo is special, and the most experienced QB in college football history. We should enjoy watching #10 play his final few collegiate games. Go Ducks!!!
  24. Any rational Husky fan (if one exists) has to be extremely worried about playing a motivated Oregon in the conference championship game. We have looked as good as any team in the country since that game in Seattle, whereas Washington has continued to scrape by. That said, I'm nervous playing Washington. They have had our number of the past 2 seasons. Oregon is the better team, IMHO, but until we beat them on the field, nothing else matters. Our defense needs to step up and Bo Nix and the offense needs to be sharp.
