Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted October 9 Before you say anything...yeah, I know the post color is orange. But that color is so benign to me, so easy to overlook that I am not annoyed with it, I just feel sorry for it. ----------------------------------------- If you go to the game, please take the challenge that "Autzen is not that big a deal" from Ohio State fans seriously. YELL-O your head off, please. Let the damn Buckeyes and their big-head fans know we are for real. Now, I know the issue you have; the next day your throat is completely shot and beyond just sore. Heck, mine would be when the game barely got into the fourth quarter, but I found a way to make noise AND save your throat! On the vocal musical scale of Do-Re-Me-Fa-So-La, etc.....find the tone of "Fa" and cup your hands and deliver it. You can do it loud, but for some reason...it did not destroy my throat. The guy next to me and below me joined me, and for that game that they were there....our combined voices were powerful. People were looking back, and we explained it, and then a chunk of the section was doing it! Don't do it when we're on offense, of course, but never let their defense get any vocal signals...NEVER. 2 2 1 2 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
DanLduck No. 2 Share Posted October 10 Also, yell from your diaphragm not your throat. Take a deep breath, hold your tummy muscles firm, and bellow away. We expect the players to leave it all on the field, we the fans gotta do the same. Besides, it's 2 weeks before next home game. We can recover by then. GGOOOOOOOO DUCCKKKSSSSSS!!! 1 2
EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 3 Share Posted October 10 I just take one of those small air horns with the top button valve triggers, tuck the canister into a scarf, cup my hands around the bell, take a deep breath, warn my neighbors, then drop my chin on the valve and let'er rip. Ok, maybe not, although the idea has some merit and it saves the old vocal cords. But if you hear an air horn coming from the middle of section 12 when tOSU is on offense, I may have given in to my lower nature. Go Ducks! Deafen the Buckeyes! EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 4 Share Posted October 10 Charles is right about the Sound of Music "Fa" sound as being less straining than just yelling. What I want to hear from Duck fans along with the "O" is: " We Faaa in your general direction!" 1
Annie No. 5 Share Posted October 10 While megaphones are not allowed in the stadium, those newspapers they hand out before games are--and they can be rolled up to work as megaphones. 1 2
The Kamikaze Kid Moderator No. 6 Share Posted October 10 What a great thread! I'm more of a leave it all in the stands kind of guy with a couple days of recovery required. I'll need to take some notes!
Grandpa Duck No. 7 Share Posted October 10 DanL is right about breathing from the diaphragm, which takes a bit of technique. When you inhale, extend your stomach, allowing the diaphragm to drop. Then when you yell, the stomach muscles contract, pushing your diaphragm upward and forcing the air through your vocal cords. Do not expand your chest on inhaling. That will occur naturally when the diaphragm drops. 1 2

NJDuck Moderator No. 10 Share Posted October 10 I made a suggestion to Oregon's athletic marketing team. Since it's suppose to be all black at the Ohio State game, they should provide yellow pompoms for every Duck fan attending the game. How impressive would that look on TV. Go Ducks, Fly High!!
Red Eddy Green No. 11 Share Posted October 10 The wife and I are 29 year season ticket holders. In our younger years we would both go hoarse. You can't yell loud when your voice hurts. I began to whistle. I cup my hands and give it my best "Hey Taxi" whistle. A couple of years ago I got a new neighbor seat mate. Very enthusiastic, athletic, slim lady. She always brings confeti to throw in the air after we score. She can whistle louder and longer than me. I do my embarressed best.
DUCKS4OUUO No. 12 Share Posted October 10 DUCK LIPS?? I've been looking online and haven't found anything saying duck lips or noise makers are not allowed in Autzen. I know the Pac 12 a few years ago made it a rule. I think have have some old duck lips I'll bring to go along with my FA (ala ala) sound. P.S. Maybe OU will help UO out again this weekend and Beat Texas, and make UO game 1 vs 2. I mean, they already gave us a QB 2

I mean, they already gave us a QB Noise makers are banned by the NCAA during live play at sporting events…if someone complains they will ask you to not use it anymore. Just search Noisemaker ban by NCAA. Otherwise, in every stadium, the crowd would have air horns, or trumpets blaring on every play.
DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 17 Share Posted October 11 Everyone is going to have to be extra loud. I’m hearing there will be upwards of 20-25K Ohio State fans at Autzen on Saturday.
Just Ducky No. 18 Share Posted October 11 Can’t yell as loud as I used to so I revert to low tones as Charles has suggested. It seems to take less air and I can hold those tones much longer. That being said my throat still gets sore during the game but not quite so bad. By the way, that’s why they sell beer isn’t it! 1

Great point about rolling the newspaper into a megaphone. It makes a serious impact in directing the sound straight down to the field.

DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 23 Share Posted October 12 I think the game will sell over 60K with standing room only. Ohio fans will probably be about 30-35%. The stands will look an awful lot like 2013 Tennessee and 2017 Nebraska.
