Smith72 Moderator No. 2 Share Posted November 17 Thanks, Jordan, for the excellent recap of yesterday's game. I agree, "winning ugly still counts". Wisconsin really benefited from the bye week and came out refreshed and energized. Kudos to their coach for that. I know we will always get our opponent's best shot. I'm impressed with all the Oregon Coaches for prevailing against an improved and energized home team. We've seen other Oregon teams fail in these situations. Also impressed with the "true grit" shown by the players. Lots of stuff to go to the doctor and get fixed. Get healthy Ducks!
HappyToBeADuck No. 3 Share Posted November 17 Thank you Jordan for your article in the aftermath of OBD's hard fought road game victory. A well rested and energized Badger defense utilized constant pressure to force DG off his timing routes. Wisconsins secondary is strong and coverage was very good. DG had to scramble or adjust often to carve out table scraps on the scoreboard. It helped that the Whisky D (just like the Terps) did not have to account for Tez. To my eyes the Duck offense is more predictable withoit Tez. Yet the Ducks tired and pieced together offense moved the ball, at times with ease. However, a critical red zone mistake and 2 settle for Field Goals, on the first 3 drives absolutely inspired the Wisconsin D. Instead of taking the crowd out of the game with a 21 point lead early, well that crowd was loud and supportive for the entire game. Except when the Badgers had the ball. OBD's Defense played outstanding dominant ball. Their was no doubt that the Game Ball belongs to the Oregon Duck D... Well done........ It was an ugly win for sure but a big time road win. Go Ducks, the dreaded leg lifters are heading to Eugene....... 2
30Duck Moderator No. 4 Share Posted November 17 Thanks, Jordan, this one was ugly, add it to the nightmare list that Wisconsin is compiling with games against Oregon. It was the game that OBD lost before, and that weren't supposed to win, now that they're in the B1G. But win they did. How many times have the Ducks lost because the kicker missed a field goal? Last year's Beaver, now Always a Duck, Atticus Sappington was 3-3. Gabriel pulled a little Mahomes out on Wisky when he was running down the sideline, looked like he was heading out of bounds, but didn't and zipped past them for some more. Maybe should have let Sapp make it 4-4, but the Ducks D took care of business, and now the Ducks finally get a rest. 1

Jon Joseph Moderator No. 6 Share Posted November 17 From The Athletic's ($ wall) Stewart Mandel - "But the Ducks did what great teams do, driving 81 yards for the tying score and holding Wisconsin without a 1st down for the entire 4th quarter to win 16-13." "Running back Jordan James (25 carries,121 yards, one TD) wore down the Badgers, and defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei was everywhere, pulling down a game-sealing interception off a deflection." ( Note to FSU fans: It is possible for the words 'Uiagalelei' and 'interception' to appear in the same sentence not involving a brutal loss. - David Hale - ESPN) Thank you, Jordan. Santa Rosa Duck No. 8 Share Posted November 17 Thank you Jordan, we can count on you showing up. Perhaps our DUCKS could have played better but IMHO the Wisconsin defense was no joke. They came to play and we were fortunate to get away with a win. I loved the game as I was actually elated after the game as opposed to being bored. Next the Huskies. My guess is they will come to play and we will have a tough game. Dan Lanning has to beat the Huskies! GO DUCKS!
Ktmguy2018 No. 9 Share Posted November 17 Oh, you should have read the Husky forums about this game. Their "obtuse-ity" was on full display. One comment was similar to "so much talent and they are so underperforming" in reference to how the Ducks were playing. Ummm, yeah. 11-0 is such a letdown. We are one of three undefeated teams left in FBS. Out of 134! OBD, Indiana, and Army are the only teams with unblemished records. At the beginning of the year, I predicted 2 losses. Ohio State and at Wisconsin. This team has shown their mettle in overcoming injuries, in gelling with transfers, and winning with suffocating defense!! I honestly DO NOT care if Oregon is #1, #2, or #3. I feel they deserve #1, Camp Randall has taken out some worthy opponents! My pride and love of OBD wants them to be #1. My brain reminds me of the desired endgame and says "They are in the B10CG! Beat the Woof-Woofs in two weeks and they are 100% in the playoffs no matter what" 1 2

jrw Moderator No. 16 Share Posted November 17 The national narrative of the Ducks is changing... In prior years, the headline would have been something like, "Oregon's Shortcomings Revealed in Narrow Victory". Now, it's more, "Ducks Clamp Down to Earn Hard-Fought Win". Mandel's quote, "But the Ducks did what great teams do..." shows how things have changed. The narrative has shifted to one in which the Ducks are a great team that finds ways to win, not a lucky, undeserving team that barely beats un-ranked teams. I tell you, this is a big shift in national perceptions. 1 1

They were ‘underperforming’ last year when they were 11-0? Got it. Makes complete sense now.

Solar No. 20 Share Posted November 17 This was another game that shows our DL is capable of wearing down opponents' OLs. That's quite an advantage to have; an elite trait. 16 points, yuck. I agree we don't need to win a beauty contest right now, with the 12 team playoff as an 11 win team that beat OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin. We could even manage to lose next week and we would still be in. I like what another individual pointed out that in the 2010 perfect regular season we barely beat Cal in an away game at a similar point in the season in a similarly low scoring game. It can happen and isn't necessarily a sign of impending doom. And hopefully the bye week can resolve much of the issues we had this game, being mentally, emotionally and physically worn down, as well as cleaning up issues with offensive blocking chemistry (including TEs). Here's to another week (or two?) at number 1.

Drake Moderator No. 24 Share Posted November 17 Jordan James went from probable to warrior mode. Such a solid performance on a night where offensive highlights were few. The offense started strong, but red zone mistakes kept the badgers in the game. In an alternate universe, it could have been 21 - 0 in favor of the Ducks, early in the game. The defense started strong, and ended stronger. Matayo played like a senior moving his way up the NFL draft board, and was my defensive MVP for this game.
30Duck Moderator No. 25 Share Posted November 17 “The Big 10 refs save Oregon with one of the worst chop block calls you are ever going to see,” @mattbegreatyt wrote. “Cost Wisconsin a 1st down and gives Oregon great field position.” After the controversial flag, Wisconsin had two more chances to drive and either tie the game or take the lead. Instead, the Oregon defense stood tall, forcing a turnover on downs and an interception to ice the game.

DuckFan93 No. 27 Share Posted November 17 So relieved for this win. Go Ducks! This kind of win at the end of the season is mark of a great team. Let's beat the fuskies by at least 9 points after the bye, to avenge for the last 2 seasons! Many what-ifs in the game - the main one for me is that INT in the red zone in Q1. I bet the game would've played out very differently if we had scored a TD there instead... That one play really got them going unfortunately. We really got to stop doing that. And another 0-point Q3. Anyone still think this was by design?

30Duck Moderator No. 29 Share Posted November 17 Coach Fickell praised his defense for their impressive performance, particularly their pressure on Gabriel. “Our defense did a great job today—tackling, limiting big plays, and creating edge pressure,” Fickell noted. While Wisconsin’s defense kept them competitive, Fickell acknowledged their inability to close out the game in the fourth quarter, an ongoing issue that left them vulnerable to Oregon’s late-game tactics.
