I didn’t have our defense playing poorly on my Bingo card tonight.

PSU has the momentum now and their sideline to sideline play calling is getting the better of OBD. No pressure on Allar is starting to take a toll

We have yet to Stop Penn State other than when they got penalized and the bad throw INT.

To be honest, our D doesn't look as prepared this game.

And, PSU’s play-calling is very good.

Yeah, I thought first one to 24 wins, but they have putting us on our heels with the play calling mixed with uneven, but sometimes great execution.

Weak, that's what are defense looks like, very very weak upfront, getting beaten up front, Harmon and Caldwell are losing a lot of money out there right now.

PSU gets the ball to start the second half.

We need to move the ball here.

The defense is exhausted. It doesn't help that the offense has failed to score the last 3 possessions.

Not only is the Ducks D getting manhandled, but they’re confused as well.

The ghosts of decades of Oregon’s vulnerabilities are still visible. They’re better than they’ve ever been, still not convinced it’s quite enough yet. Yet!

Terrible time management there by Lanning, what are you doing just allowing that much time to go off the clock.  What are you doing!!!!

I figured something out.  The defense formation that makes me uncomfortable…The safeties and the linebackers aren’t fleet enough to run the style of defense Lupoi likes to run against elite offenses.

I’m seeing the same types of issues we saw against Georgia and Washington.  The linebackers aren’t sideline to sideline capable.  This type of defense requires that very skill.  The safeties aren’t fast enough to cover one on one.  That puts massive pressure on them in open field coverage.

Furthermore, the defense doesn’t naturally set an edge.  It’s a natural weakness in my opinion.  I don’t like it.  It’s always been something that bothered me.

If you don’t set the edge, your inside linebackers have to be sprinter speed caliber.  Same with the safeties.  That leads to issues when an OC recognizes how to isolate both positions.

Lupoi doesn’t have the personnel to handle the offenses he’s about to face in the playoffs.  A change of scheme is required.

Oregon’s defense is overrated. Penn State averages 33 points a game. They have scored 24 in the FIRST HALF against the Ducks.

Ohio State held Penn State to 13 points in Happy Valley. PSU only scored 21 against Illinois.

We laugh at the low scoring SEC games but Georgia and Texas both have better defenses than Oregon does, IMO. Ohio State probably had the best defense in college football. If those teams can slow Oregon’s offense down (or we have an off night) in the playoffs, anything is possible.

We have the fastest defense in College football. If they still aren't fast enough to execute this scheme, then the scheme isn't good.

Oregon put up 500 yards of offense on that Ohio St. defense.

This is the conference championship game so it's not unexpected that Penn St would be far more motivated tonight than when they played against the Buckeyes.

OBD are up at the half, I have faith that they will keep up the pressure as well.

Hey these offenses are executing at a higher level than those SEC teams too.

Both these teams would be beating Texas and Georgia.

7 pt difference at half-time.

Vegas says 3 pts at the end.   I would take that right now.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that Oregon got points before the half and that adjustments will be made. Allar is getting the time he has and avoiding pass rush on part because he is dropping 10yds.

There will be something that OBD sees that can be utilized in the 3rd qtr.

BTW, thank heaven for Tez.

Man, Holden dropped what looked like a catch and run for a TD earlier in the drive.

That's the kind of thing I talk about in games that play out like this…you can’t beat yourself.  You can’t blink.  Especially when it’s unforced.

To me, this game comes down to putting the linebackers and safeties in situations they can win.  I stated earlier in the week that zone coverage suits this personnel better.  I’m hoping Lupoi and Lanning recognize the limitations that Penn State is exposing (and obviously OCs much more adept than I am surely recognize).

The offense seems fine.  Too cute with the swing passes.  I’m not sure Penn State can pressure the duration of the game ( what’s left of it ).

Id like to see the offense go back to Sadiq. Penn St has a problem covering his athleticism.

Keep in mind it's 10pm for Penn State. It's getting late for them. Could start getting a little "after Dark " weirdness in the second half.

The duck defense is far from "overrated"! There is only one loss between these two teams this year. One!

This should be a dog fight, this is a championship fight!

I promise you that when the Ducks win, and they will, the rest of the playoff field will be worried...

PSU has cleaned up the penalties and that has helped them. #11 is the real deal and even Conerly is having a problem with him. PSU very aggressive at the LOS and Oregon having the best results with misdirection on offense.

Time to dial up more creative defensive schemes

It worked out because we didn’t get the first down.

It was poor clock management. No point in saving the timeouts. They don’t carry over to the second half.

Or are they playing well because Oregon’s defense is not doing their job?

I’ve seen Penn State play multiple times this year and they should not be doing this to a “good” defense.

Some games just turn into offensive shootouts and others defensive struggles, just happens year-in-and-year out.

It doesn't surprise me exactly when it happens.

I think they just said this is the most points Penn State has given up all year as well.

I don't know if you are going to find too many LB groups faster than Jackson, Bassa, and Boettcher (a guy who ran a 10.54 100m in high school, a converted safety, and a MLB prospect at centerfield).

Not saying its working great tonight but you know, not all games are the same. Travelling east to play a game that must be 80% Penn State fans? There is a reason the line was 3.5 and not 14.0.

No,

They are not fast enough.  LB Jackson is the only one with the kind of speed to cover the field laterally.  You can go throughout the season and see Boetcher can’t cover backs -and it happened this half.

Jeffrey Bassa got beat on a simple RB seam route for a TD-this game ( looked at the QB to start his coverage on top of it).

FS Savage can’t cover TE Warren.  Tysheem Johnson gets out of position with this scheme-and he was as responsible for PSU’s first TD (didn’t have anyone to worry about in his side of the field, so Post Pattern Support is required in that situation-and it showed-Niko Reed expected safety support on that pattern).

Devon Jackson is the only player in that group capable of executing in this scheme.

Film does not lie.  It showed up last year, it’s apparent now.  Ohio State was the other offense that exploited this personnel.  One brilliant coaching move-that resulted in changing a rule-gave OBD their undefeated regular season.

I didn’t think PSU was capable of exploiting this weakness.  I was wrong.

I understand the point but people have scored on Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson when they have been winning championships.

Just a half where the offenses rolled. Second half will be interesting. I think the lack of pressure has been more worrisome than the LBs and S legs.

Urban Meyer is the one that said we have the fastest defense in college football this morning.

If every without a hand in the turf has to have 10.5/4.4 speed the scheme is unrealistic.

I'm happy to see Whittington running like his old self this game.

We'll need this out of him down the stretch.

It's looking like 7 games in a row is catching up to PSU a little bit here.

#11 for Penn State is seriously bad news for the NFL.

He's immediately going to be the best LB in the field nearly every game as a rookie.
