Let’s discuss the game right here.

Am I looking at the playoff schedule correctly in that since we'll have a first round bye, that we won't play until 12/31 or 01/01?

The guy wrote the article saying that penalties might be Oregon's "Fatal Flaw". He was off by just 1team, though Harmon's hand to the face sure didn't help.

Ducks won the turnover battle. That was the difference.

Does anybody think PSU or UO would have lost to Georgia or Texas the way everyone played today? I don't think so.

I'm looking forward to a Fishduck analysis of what went wrong with Oregon's secondary. Were they just out schemed by Penn state's offensive coordinator, or what?

That being said, our team out west has slain a bunch of Blue bloods this season. I am so proud of them.

Dillion Gabriel might not win the Heisman but he sure knows how to rise to the moment. When he needed yardage he was always able to find a receiver and of course we can't forget Tez who was the MVP.

Yes. Ducks will be in the Rosebowl 1/1.

No, and Penn State wouldn't have either.

I do have to say, I think we got a bit lucky with the refs, it's probably one of the first games this season where I feel that, also got a little lucky with the fumble from Gabriel, but we just edged it out in terms of who I think deserved the W.  Obviously the defense will need to play better, but it is so good to see the offense get back on track and continue the good play from the Washington game.

I’m not loving the championship gear online. They can’t use the “O” because it’s trademarked, so the interlocking UO is on all of the gear.

The defense struggled, especially containing PSU's tailbacks and QB, but The defenses two turnovers were the difference in the game

1 2 3 - That's How the PO Rankings Should Be!

1. OBD

2. Penn State

3. Ohio State

Why did PSU not run more creative plays on the goal line against tOSU? Where was Ty Warren?

SEC - SEC - SEC ???

Thanks for bringing home my $ Dawgs but that was what the SEC has shown all season - two good but not great teams balling out.

OK - does 3L Bama get in instead of 2L SMU?

ROAST OBD's ROSE BOWL OPP!

While the defensive effort will be examined by lots of viewers over the next couple days, this is my takeaway:

The defense largely was a staunch pillar of support to lean on all season long when the offense was sputtering.  We now know that when the defense finally sputters, it can lean on the offense to put up a solid effort to win the day.

That, to me, is a complete team.

Hearty congrats to OBD and all my Duck buddies for a great win tonite. After my Dawgs fought back to win a game that, once again, no one(except Pat MacAfee) on Gameday gave them much chance of winning, and the Ducks gut out a tough win as well, I, with the aid of a couple small glasses of sippin bourbon, am feeling quite mellow this fine evening. As for who can beat whom, I hear a lot of postgame hubris trying to make cross-game comparisons that may like comparing apples and oranges. That said,

In the weeks to come, we will all get to sit back and settle all these arguments according to the only criteria that matter: WHAT HAPPENS BETWEEN THE LINES!! And I'll guarantee you that whomever survives the grinder to come over the next month will be one of the most deserving National Champions ever.

I'll bite, they called this game pretty loose especially in the secondary. They didn't call a lot of penalties for as many as were committed. Many a hold on PSU O line, facemask on PSU, hand fighting on both sides, push offs on both sides, blocking down field on both sides.

The important part was the refs were just letting them play rather than legislating a game. When it affected the play they called the foul, exactly how it should be.

Am I allowed to say what an utterly atrocious defensive effort individually and collectively tonight? Holy crap. That was bad. Apologies if this is not allowed.

Ultimately the defense did exactly what it needs to do for us to win the game. The two turnovers were the difference maker and gave us the win.

Huge shout out to both Reed and Manning for stepping up big time this year!

You are quite allowed to have an opinion about coaching decisions or player performance, as long as you don’t get personal,

We have said that 100 times here…and there ARE the rules to check at the top of the site.  (Not that anyone reads them)

With Cam Ward losing again and out of the spotlight this weekend, it’s down to a three horse race with Hunter and Jeanty. Gabriel has a puncher’s chance at winning this thing as the “best player on the best team.”

Both Jeanty and Hunter are two unconventional picks as a non-P4 RB and Hunter as a two way star on a 3-loss team.

Another wrench to throw in the mix is the fact that all three candidates are out west. How will the majority of East Coast voters view the candidates?

Great teams find a way when not everything is working right.  This team did that.  And despite not playing it’s best, the D did get two clutch picks to seal this.

The O reminded me of Chip‘s. Felt they could do anything they needed.

I took a moment to think back to that 1995 Rose Bowl against #2 Penn State, simply being happy to even be in that environment. And now we beat them and expected to win, going undefeated winning their conference.   How far the ducks have come…still more to achieve.

It creates a level playing field for once with the ranked choice voting. No McCaffrey screw overs, it will be close and be down to what is valued most.

This was the first time this year I felt the Defensive staff did not properly prepare the players for the opponent.

The DL couldn't figure out how to set the edges, the LB were lost much of the time due to the presnap window dressing, and secondary kept blowing assignments against the WR route tree.

Not enough hours in the day for the coaches to close out the recruiting class, evaluate a team they didn't prep for all year, and teach the players what to look for and how to handle it in film study and against the scout team.

Good observation, Solar.

Let me add three things.

1. PSU's  going faster than their normal pace may have caught OBD unprepared a few times, according the Autzen audibles.

2. The defense struggled to set the edge against Wisky. The problem here was that PSU ran between the tackles very successfully, which no one else had been able to do, other than perhaps BSU.

3. Burch had a quiet game. I can't say whether this was scheme, personnel, or his physical state.

Boettcher still had an impact, as it was he who made the tackle on Warren on the two point conversion.

Boettcher is a favorite of mine. Two observations about his play;

1. His run blitzes usually failed, possibly because PSU was ready for them. He never seemed to find lanes into the backfield.

2. On one play, a guard came right at him, untouched by the defensive line. LBs cannot make tackles if the defensive linemen do not occupy the blockers. I am no coach, I not cannot say why this happened, but I was shocked at how ineffective Harmon and Caldwell were against PSU. No doubt PSU deserves much credit.

No doubt others will see more or say more.

Our entire DL was incapable of shedding blocks from the OL, getting up and down the line and getting into the backfield. We weren't getting pushed back, but more of a stalemate without the ability to get free to tackle.

Their OL has heavy hands as they say and have great technique of holding without it looking obvious enough to call it. Really riding that line.

By far the toughest challenge omw had all year at the LOS.

This year's Joe Moore Award for offensive line semi-finalists:  #9 Alabama, #16 Army, #5 Indiana, Iowa, #8 Notre Dame, #2 Ohio State, #1 Oregon, #6 Tennessee, #3 Texas, and #25 Tulane*.

It appears there may be one missing from the list?

Pace of play, and size of receiver core for PSU, caused the Ducks a lot of problems.

Even when the receivers weren't targeted, they pulled defensive attention.

Remember when 6-4 Juwan Johnson transferred from PSU to UO?  When he was with the Ducks he was a handful for opposing DBs.

I read a comment on the Twitterverse that he was sick and almost didn’t make the trip to Indy. This information should be taken with a grain of salt, though.

Wasn't he targeted on that key 3rd and long play in the 4th quarter?  It seems like a mix up between the WR and QB because the ball was thrown well short.
