Fargo Sources: North Dakota State head coach Tim Polasek has agreed in principle to a new seven-year contract, which will bring him through the 2033 season. The new deal includes a significant raise, additional staff money and more program resources. Guess that takes him off the Beavis radar.

I recall him having one good year as a DC and that was 2009 at BSU.

Wilcox has had a very solid D most of his time at Cal with pretty mediocre talent overall. He really had their D humming at an elite level, then cratered in the immediate post-pandemic world, but had built it back up.

In the 2024 season, the Cal defense ranked 14th in scoring defense, 2nd in turnover margin, and 23rd in sacks nationally during the season. At Cal! Now he wasn’t DC, but it’s clearly his trademark.

I think he’d be an upgrade personally.

North Texas HC Eric Morris is moving on and up and will be on the sidelines when OBD visits Stillwater in 2026.

I expect he will bring many Mean Green players along with him.

With JMU in the hunt for the G6 12th seed, I think Chesney will wait until he knows whether JMU is in or out.

I have no idea, based on performance, why anyone thinks Kiffin is worth $14 million a season—more than Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, and Dabo, who have won championships.

Kiffin had Ole Miss on the cusp of the PO last season, and his team choked at Florida. This season, Ole Miss had the SEC's 5th easiest conference schedule and played dog meat out of conference.

Kiffin won a conference championship at G5 FAU, and that's it.

He is not a great recruiter. His rosters at Ole Miss have been built on players from the portal.

With Kiffin noting in his pre-Egg Bowl press conference that today's players care about money and not who their coach is, I think he's off to Florida or LSU.

Don't blame me for leaving. If the players don't care about who is coaching them, why should I stick around Oxford town?🤬

The Ole Miss AD has said the program will match any salary offers. If he's smart, which is debatable, he'll stick around. He'll have a two-year haven't won a Natty yet grace period at LSU and perhaps three years at Florida.

I believe better coaches will be hired for less money.

Including Tulane coach Jon Sumrall, who will be hired to replace Kiffin if Lane heads down the lane. 😁

When Dan Lanning hired Samples, almost everyone had serious doubts (except for the fact that DL is a trustworthy head hunter). Now no one in the family doubts Samples. He has been awesome in every way.

Samples is Oregon's assistant head coach. When Dan Lanning retires in another 50 years or so, Samples should be ready to take over. 😁

I've been in the minority when saying I want Jedd Fisch. He's a Florida graduate, he builds his roster primarily through recruiting, and he has a sharp offensive mind. The only question with him, is he has only been at his current and past gig, two years. But, he took a dumpster fire Arizona, and led them to ten wins his second year. He has Washington getting incrementally better.

He's a better long term answer imo, and he doesn't carry the baggage that Lane has. I might have my words used against me if he(Kiffin) does great at LSU. But I'd prefer a guy who doesn't publicly make it known he might take another job.

Ole Miss has had to deal with this three times already. Worse yet, he is doing it during their best season ever.

Lane might come to Florida, but he is a guy that would openly flirt with being the Cowboys, Dolphins, Jets, Browns, or whatever NFL opening. No thanks.

If it's him, I'll wish it well. I would hope he would prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

I would immediately make Hampton the interim DC (as a trial period), while you go through the search process, and let Tosh leave to focus on his new program.

Well, it’s quite possible to upgrade the defensive coordinator, and I’m sure there are some great ones out there externally, as well as internally that Lanning will look at, but our defensive line recruiting will absolutely be affected by the loss of Tosh.

He was a fantastic recruiter, and has sent a lot of guys to the NFL from the defensive line at all the different places he has coached.

Hampton is already co-DC.

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep the co-DC thing rolling by either promoting or finding another young up-and-comer.

Little surprised that Lupoi is diving into the HC thing because he would have had opportunities before but I guess he just wanted this job. Good for him.

Good point.

Tosh isn’t the best defensive coordinator, IMO, but he is a fantastic recruiter. Coach Lanning has quite a track record with sending d-lineman to the NFL going back to his Georgia days himself and it will be important to find a DL coach who is a great recruiter and developer. I have no doubt that he will be able to find good coaching talent. Hopefully this does not affect our current recruiting commitments.

I’m a little surprised that Cal isn’t looking for an offensive minded coach, given how bad they’ve been on that side of the ball under Wilcox.

I’m not sure how definitive that is. It’s one football “insider” that makes the claim and that’s it…

Coach Lanning is always supportive of his coach's desire to climb aspire to become a head coach. I trust that Dan is well prepared for anything.

Oregon State hired an offensive coordinator, well actually an co-offensive coordinator from Alabama .Not Grubbs either, but a Shepard.

Beavis hired a guy that may have been fired if he stayed and Alabama lost the Iron Bowl…and might have been on the chopping block anyways.

Funny how much they once again try to copy us but can’t quite get it right. Saban adjacent does not equal Saban tree.

If we lose Tosh, I'd rather have Chris Hampton promoted up. Kind of a slap in the face to go outside to hire one.

They did that before Wilcox... They had Sonny Dykes and that was a disaster for them. He has done better in the Big 12 where teams just don't believe in defense (well this year seems different on that front).

Cal needs a competent head coach who understands the program, alumni and fan base. And perhaps most importantly... Recruit their own back yard to secure its best talent and go into southern California and grab some there as well.

They haven't had that and that's what they need.

Defensive minded or offensive minded doesn't matter. The right coordinators will help, but frankly Wilcox has actually don't quite well on the coaching hires from an X's and O's stand point... They just never had the jimmies and joes. At least not a complete roster of them.

Sources: Stanford is hiring Tavita Pritchard as the school’s next head coach. He’s a former quarterback, assistant coach and coordinator at the school, including a run on staff from 2010 to 2022.

Pritchard is the Commanders QB coach, where he coached Jayden Daniels in his ROY season in 2024, and he’s set to leave the team’s staff after Washington plays Denver on Sunday night.  Mariota is expected to start for the Commanders/Pritchard.

Pritchards time on Stanford staff included five seasons as coordinator and nine seasons coaching QBs. 

Florida is now apparently targeting Jon Sumrall, Tulane, not Fisch.
