  2. If OBD sends another OC off to be a head coach of a major program, they will once again bring in whoever they want.
  3. When asked about the James Franklin firing, Dan Lanning spoke of how every coach including he...."were just two weeks away" from job insecurity. He stated that it goes with the territory as HC, so they certainly know the stakes.
  4. On3 put out an article this morning where they discussed the major candidates for the Florida job. The surprise to me was Jeff Brohm of Louisville was one of the three, fresh off the upset of Miami. If Brohm left the Cardinals, then I could see Will Stein "going-home" to his, and his wife's alma mater. That was a potential domino that I didn't see coming... Josh Pate has his CFB ranking, and he put Oregon at No. 3 in the nation....ahead of all the known names, and right behind Ohio State and Indiana. I enjoy his love, but frankly....30Duck was pointing out to me that the best Duck win to date is....unranked 5-2 Northwestern? The others in the top ten have a better resume' at the moment, but I appreciate Josh's support of Our Beloved Ducks.
  5. This is a strange year. Penn State probably exercised too much patience (which isn't always a bad thing) with James Franklin and they finally crashed. However, I don't see them being down for long. They'll get a good coach and be back in the top 3-4 teams in the B1G. The patience they showed with Franklin will help them attract a really good HC who can concentrate on building his program and not being worried about losing his job in the first couple of years. They will also spare no money for resources. Indiana is a strange situation. Cignetti is a great coach, but he likes to rely on developing 3-star recruits while backfilling with role players from the portal. I almost get a Kalen DeBoer-at-Washington feel about Cignetti because he does really well with his former players (from JMU) and other people's players. They always say you need the Jimmy's and Joe's to win championships. Can he get highly ranked recruits to come to Bloomington? Time will tell. I see them as having a few great years mixed with years of 7, 8, 9 win seasons. Wisconsin needs two things to happen in order to get back in the top 25. First, they need to spend money. Second, they need to hire the right coach who fits their DNA. Pat Fitzgerald would be a great fit in my opinion. However, nothing is going to change until they get into the arms race. Big O-linemen and great RB's are no longer going to come to Madison because of their reputation for producing NFL prospects at those positions. They're going to follow the money. USC and UW are doing fine. No need for them to make improvements.

  12. Maybe the B1G needed the PAC as much as we needed them?
  13. It wasn't long ago that your average team considered it a successful year if they played a New Years bowl game. This meant you were a contender in your conference and each game you held your breath because the air was relatively rare. To go 10-2 was a stellar year and 11-1 or better was euphoric to say the least. This is not the case anymore. Now? Lose one game and your school asks for your head. Lose two games and the media is writing stories about your HC's ability to retain his job. Lose 3 games in the same year? Buy out a $50 million contract. (4) but who's counting? Oregon State has a new coach mid-season, so does Oklahoma St., Penn St, Florida, Arkansas, UCLA, VA Tech, Colorado St, Alabama-Birmingham. Is Wisconsin next? Some of those teams needed it. But, mid-season? ....maybe. In my opinion we are seeing an overall change in expectation due to NIL. Schools, and their donors, are now allowed to drop serious money into their programs. One must ask, "If I donate $50 grand then shouldn't I get some return on my investments?" If the program receives 'Investments' that are north of $20 million then what's your expectation? Ohio St is rumored at $35 million. Texas Tech $28 million. A quick Google search revealed that 15-20 teams have 'Invested' in the neighborhood of $20 million and up. Why? Not to come in 2nd place. And yet 8 of them won't even make the playoffs. The reality is that over the last 25 years most of the teams that have won a NC are named LSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St, and Clemson. We have some singles in there and of course they are mostly Blue Bloods. NIL has evened the field to be sure...Texas Tech anyone? Indiana is a darling of a story. Will they be a perennial power? If the NIL comes then they will demand it. And don't think for a second that Oregon won't (has already) drift(ed) into this thinking. It wasn't long ago that we all knew Oregon was punching above their weight. It wasn't until the last 2 full years we started seeing the difference. The results of the Cool school with the cash to flash has this team vying for a National Championship last year as well as this year. But, ask yourself, 'if Oregon was a 10-2 team 3 years in a row, how much howling would be going on? Would Lanning be on the Hot seat? This is the face of ALL college football now. 10-2 is not enough. It's playoffs, first, period. We all would rather have a playoff bid rather than a conference championship. Fair enough. But, would you fire your coach that got you there just last year because they had a poor showing this year. Possibly. Storied programs have little patience anymore. The investment is too great.

  16. I'm hoping that the Duck Team stays focused every day in practice, and they take one game at a time. I hope they don't let the "rat Poison" like this article go to their heads. Autzen ZooThree signs the Ducks may be better than their No. 6 rankingDante Moore has thrown the most touchdown passes of any quarterback in the West with 19, ahead of Noah Fifita of Arizona, 17.
  17. (Sigh)😔… I miss the PAC, but I respect playing tOSU and Michigan. I miss the regional rivalries, but I love playing in multiple storied stadiums. I hated the disrespect that nobody seemed to watch the PAC, now I’m one of them. Potential $30 million vs $100+ million come 2030? No brainer. Reaching retirement age and I was looking forward to traveling around the PAC to watch Oregon play. Would take probably 3-4 years overall, but it sounded like a great journey to start in retirement. Now??!!!! I get 17 teams AND it’s the BIG House, The Shoe, Happy(Not so) Valley White Out at Night, Rutgers/Maryland mainly for the 400 years of history around every corner plus the win, doing the HawkEye wave to the kids in the hospital that have a view of the game(Are You Kidding Me??!! Who wouldn’t want to do that??!!). My options have greatly improved. Besides, I still get to go to the Rose Bowl(garbage venue where you can’t see the field) and the Coliseum(Broke down venue). I like my new ‘PAC(k)….errrrr…B1G!!
  18. The B1G is no better than the PAC-12 was. In fact, the PAC-12 was probably deeper. You just have inflated rankings due to the media bias. Most years, the PAC-12 had a couple of really strong teams (Washington and Oregon the final season, Stanford and Oregon during the Chip Kelly years) and anyone in the conference could beat you, if you didn’t show up, especially on the road. USC has been down for a long time (and that didn’t help the image of the PAC-12) but under Coach Carroll they were the best program in college football. Ohio State is as good as any program in the nation right now (I’m not sold on Indiana and we’ll see how good our Ducks are). Is anyone worried about losing to Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, etc al. Heck some teams can’t even score an offensive touchdown. It’s funny watching some of the top teams from new conferences going into the State of Arizona and losing. That Stanford can beat you, if you don’t bring it.
  19. The BIG. Outside of having three teams ranked in the Top 6, the rest of the conference is mediocre to bad. The conference is currently the very definition of “top-heavy.” Michigan and Illinois are flirting at the bottom of the Top 25, but they have a low ceiling. The BIG Blows
  20. The 2015 season, always a good year to find some interesting historical numbers. That year, Oregon's defense gave up 742 yards and 37 first downs to 6-7 ASU (in a win). In Oregon's two OT games, it's defense faced 108 and 105 snaps (the most faced so far this year has been 69). 6 of the 13 games the defense gave up 500+ yards (including 742 and 641). This year so far the most it has allowed has been 326 by Indiana. That Cal game was Jared Goff's first game at Cal after going over 10,000 career passing yards. Oregon rushed for 477 yards, 180 for Royce (6.2), 101 for Brooks-James (14.4), and 94 for Benoit (11.8). VA had 300 yards passing and 4 TDs (but had the odd stat of having two passes intercepted in the endzone).
  21. The visit to the Doctor seems to have resulted in a discharge from the hospital and a healthy dose of go kick some butt. Yes, Rutgers is not a top 25 team. But they have had their moments with good teams and a more than competent passing attack. Oregon came out with a fire lit up under their heinies and even with a crappy first series, they opened up a three quarter long can of whoopa**. Three time zones away in Piscataway. DL doesn't spare the rod when correction is needed, nor does he excuse himself and his staff when they fail to put the team in a position to succeed. I keep going back to the humiliating defeat that tOSU took at the hands of Michigan last year. At home. To a team that had no business beating the ultimate national champion. To lose to Wolverine is the worst thing that can happen to Bucknutt. The long knives were out for Day. Something turned them into the juggernaut that buzz sawed through the CFP. Something had to happen in the locker room to flip that switch. A boat ton of talent is not a guarantee that you end up on top. You need humility and an understanding that talent may get you in the door but it's drive, heart, desire and accountability to the person standing next to you that leave you the ones standing at the end. This may not have been the most entertaining and inspirational Ducks vs Them ever, but it displayed the process of overcoming adversity and righting the ship.

  23. It was a good "get right" game. But remember Rutgers has a pretty bad defense but their offense has been pretty good. Producing 300 yards through the air and a QB who has been throwing at close to 70% was reduced to sub 100 passing and only a 30% completion. So yes their defense sucks but their offense has kept them in games. So don't completely write this one off. But it's a stepping stone.
