  2. Great point. As you may recall, Herbert was a 3 star QB because he didn't play his junior year (broken leg), and basically nobody knew who he was (and he didn't do the camps). He hardly had any offers and none from top tier programs... until at the last minute when Oregon seemed to suddenly realize that they were desperate for QBs. Due to the fact that this kid came from a relatively smaller school, and it sounds like he didn't focus on the QB role until his senior year, maybe we do have another secret-stud QB waiting in the wings (pun intended). One thing for certain is that he is clearly a serious stud athlete.

  8. Thanks, DM, another winner. The photos are terrific. 247 Sports Cumulative Roster Rankings - Oklahoma State 49, Rutgers 53, Oregon State 60. Yet, as you so noted, up to Saturday, Greg Schiano was getting more out of the Rutger's roster, by far, than Mike Gundy (adios), and Trent Bray (sayonara.) The other coaches in the conference have to be really happy about inviting OBD to the party. 😁 I shouldn't go there, but coming into the season, Cig's roster was a not so smoking 72. 😧 When you have Oregon's talent and it's working together - 😍😍😍 Thanks again. Blast Bucky!
  9. It is amazing what a week after a tough loss can do, as the Ducks didn’t let Rutgers get close to handing them a second loss. Sure, Rutgers doesn’t sit atop the Big Ten rankings; they aren’t even a ranked team, but they are certainly a better team than Oregon State and Oklahoma State (which Oregon disposed of with relative ... 10. That's a crazy resume for just 1 player to hold. I'm going to guess his 3 star status as a QB is simply because he hasn't been doing that position long, otherwise he might have been a 4. Should be really interesting to see how he develops over the next 2 years.
  11. I'm glad OBD responded the way they did against Rutgers. I was counting on it happening based on my score prediction, though I obviously did not give enough credit to the defense (I had Rutgers scoring 21, mostly in garbage time). Overall it was obviously a dominating effort. However there are still a couple things to nitpick: Dante's overthrowing his long range passes somewhat. The 3 TDs he tossed to Sadiq and Wittington all required them to make a diving catch to complete despite not having defenders around them. Sadiq's 2nd TD catch ended up re-aggravating the ankle he injured in the previous game. Kicking team has missed multiple FG attempts against Indiana and Rutgers, that really needs to be improved.
  12. Some thoughts not mentioned above. Thomas looks to be having a lot of fun in garbage time. I suspect Lanning/Stein are not having Thomas throw passes because they don’t want an appearance of running up the score, and the same would apply to the other quarterbacks. The basic stuff OBD run during mop up time is not much prep for replacing the starting QB. One or more of the backup quarterbacks is running the scout team. It was my job as a 3rd backup QB in high school, 1956, before film of an opponent was even a dream, to meet with the two coaches who were sent to scout the next team on the schedule and study the formation they used and some of their plays. Then our scout team would do a walk through with our defense. With all the film available today that may no longer be the process, but if scout teams are still being used, one or more of the four Duck backups are filling that role.
  13. Maybe so but somebody is going to have to beat Texas A&M first.
  14. Miami and Los Angeles don't have fans. They have occasional spectators who show up for only the glitzy matchups. Schedule Notre Dame , Michigan, or Ohio State and it will be packed. That could also be due to several alumni living in those cities. All you have to do is go compare the Super Bowl celebrations. When the Rams won in 2022 it wasn't packed. When the Chiefs, Bucs, and Eagles won you had packed streets or boats in Tampa. Terrible fan-bases. USC and Miami are also private schools with many snobs. They wouldn't sully their hands mingling with us common folk.
  15. Yeah, just trying to guess at what makes sense? I could see Stein getting one of the 200 jobs opening up and taking Novosad to help jump start installing his offense. Keeping open the option of a second redshirt year ends up being a tip of the cap to both guys. Moga must have a lingering injury they don't want risk unless absolutely necessary. Could completely be wrong 🙂
  16. What an awesome football weekend. Ducks bust out the steam roller and the trifecta of gleeful misery as SUC fuskies and the fighting Mario’s all go down!
  17. I guess the other options are injuries or bad coaching?
  18. I don't know, do we know this? He had a nice run in one of the spring games (plus some further flashes), and 5 passes and 3 rushes combined at the ends of the first 3 games. As a QB outside the top 30 national prospects as a HS senior, I don't know how many FBS program (P4 or otherwise) would know enough to strongly recruit him for anything more than the position he already has at Oregon (most likely number 3 or 4 QB with an outside shot at 1 or 2). Recruit him because he went to Oregon? Oregon spits out its share of Ty Thompsons, Braxton Burmeisters, and Jeff Lockies. He could transfer to a place and get in the mix for a starting job, but I don't know if even much of FCS is even a complete lock. Montana State's QB was a transfer from Stanford. Tradition powers North Dakota State and South Dakota State both plugged in 5th year seniors from inside their program into open starting spots. There would seem to be plenty of benefit to playing him now. There have been like 5 games where there have been whole forth quarters for a backup to show (to a degree) how his skills look against FBS teams still playing a lot of starters (he might even be so good, you have confidence to add 1-2 plays outside of "garbage time" using him). Two Duck coaches and one Tulane coach (through a fall camp) thought Ty Thompson was a #2 who might be capable of being a #1 someday watching him in practice. It was through stepping on the field they all realized they were playing a future back-up TE at QB. I just don't see how a guy with 5 career passes and 3 career rushes would receive "limited benefit" from playing?
  19. They are also getting paid well via NIL and if they invest it right they can set themselves up well after college. Better than the vast majority of college grads for sure.
  20. SD has a group that has their view and they never want to be challenged. I need to do quite a bit of research, and not sure it will happen, but there is a narrative there that the Oregon linebackers are absolute garbage. I'm not at all convinced by their argument that has no analysis attached but is just angry screaming at anyone who disagrees. I know linebackers have tons of roles to fill and depending on what they are doing on any given play their impact may not be seen or recorded on a stat sheet. Again... I would need to do further research on this one.
  21. Don't forget these young men are on scholarship. If they know they won't make the pros, perhaps being on scholarship in a great program is enough, regardless of playing time. Hate to enter the portal and not get picked, and then not continue getting a free college education.
  22. Both Moga and Novosad traveled and were suited up on the sidelines. Both have already burned their redshirts. If Moga and Novosad both intend to transfer at the end of the season, wouldn’t you suit up and travel Smith as your 3rd QB? Just doesn’t seem to add up.
  23. First, a preface: This is not a defense of Mari Cristbal. That said, Miami is perhaps the worst place to have a team of any kind. I remember when the Miami Heat was in the NBA finals all the time with LeBron James' super team with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. I tuned into some of the games during the playoffs/Finals and was shocked by how many empty seats the Heat had during home games. Terrible fans there . . . and yes, that's a general statement I'm applying to the entire area :)
