  2. What is interesting as well is how for recruiting...promoting our stability of coaching has become a key point. A staff that largely stays together is unheard of these days, and a big selling point in itself. Parents of recruits can take great comfort from knowing that Dan Lanning not only implements it with his staff, but he lives it.
  3. Just as a gentle reminder to this conversation, much of what is being discussed here has been in place at Oregon long before Dan Lanning was born. Beginning with the program’s emergence during the Brooks/Bellotti era, it became increasingly apparent that much of our new success had its roots in the almost unheard of reliable longevity of its coaching staff, part of which was due to hiring from within. Not only recruits, but their coaches valued that they could rely upon the guy(s) making the pitch not going anywhere. From that perspective, Lanning is just beginning to tap into that part of Oregon’s DNA, and building upon something long in place, the value of which he is beginning to realize is a core element of the program’s foundation and success. What other way could he interpret the consistent, overriding message from both recruits and transfers that what they’ve found of value above all else at Oregon is a sense of family they’ve seen no where else? Our national recognition certainly makes for higher visibility than in those earlier days, and it’s to be expected and applauded that Lanning expects and encourages his coordinators to move on to head coaching positions. But, the media/fan driven hoopla of believing “Big Name” replacement hires is the only way to go is just that: razzle-dazzle. It’s from the consistency and trust that Oregon is built upon that makes us who we are today. Dan gets that.

  6. The crazy thing about this, is that you could have said this exact same thing about Bo Nix when he was at Auburn. I remember the comments on this board when we first grabbed Nix in the portal. There were not a lot of people onboard, including myself. I’m not saying it will work out. It may not. However, I am confident that Lanning will have more than 1 solution at the QB position.
  7. I do not fear. If Raiola can't "get it" he won't be starting. All you have to do is look to last year. We went out and got the best running back in the portal. We no doubt paid him a ton of money. He hardly saw the field because we had two true freshmen that were better than he. Next year he'll be toting the rock for someone else. Hopefully, he will "get it" there.
  8. Oregon Ducks Lead the Nation in Key Recruiting Mark After Final Rankings UpdateAccording to the latest recruiting rankings update, Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning and his staff signed the most five-star recruits in the country. Oregon Ducks On SIOregon Ducks Lead the Nation in Key Recruiting Mark After...Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning is known as one of the top recruiters in all of college football, and he continues to prove himself with his recruiting classes a
  9. I will take the recruiting track record, and experience on defense, for Hampton as DC. On offensive , we are solid at QB, RB, TE, and receiver. Give me the play book and I could probably call games for at least 9 wins with this roster. Might be a little rough running practices though. I think that what happens behind closed doors has a lot to do with promoting from within. DL has listened to these guys break down film, and make suggestions on how to approach game situations from both of these guys. He is satisfied, I will be content to watch. But, if they need me, I am available.
  10. TRANSFER TALK: Oregon's Carl Williams (Baylor) could play multiple spots Ducks defense in 2026
  11. For me these promotions make sense. It's the natural next step. DL is a type of coach players want to play for, and coaches want to be with. I'm sure when Drew and Chris were hired they were led to believe the possibility of moving up was real. As far as trusting DL's choices, he has proven to get the best players available regardless of who he already has, I'm sure it's the same with his coaching staff.
  12. BOTH! Often both... sadly.
  13. "Dan's baker's dozens" is Moore like it. In regard to the new OC, it is quite telling when Sadiq thanked everyone on his way out EXCEPT Stein.
  14. BB led the Senior Bowl with ten tackles; the next closest player had five, and he broke up a pass attempt. He also proved that Tennessee players don't receive a terrific education, and/or they don't like helmets with feathers. The Vols player that BB ticked off pregame punched him three times squarely in the helmet. Brilliant! 🤪
  15. WOW! So much for the attempt at Animal House humor. Perhaps you have to be 70+ long in the tooth to have watched the movie and get it? Or, perhaps, I'm long on age and short on Humor? 😁 Mea Culpa. OK, Forum Friends, I love Dylan flaunting today's fashionista flavor. I forgive the Cornhusker crud, and I hope his style of shades will be handed out before the Autzen crowd Shouts. But this doesn't mean you don't have to do your assigment people; this is my job!
  16. A few other thoughts... I don't remember seeing an annoucement of the new QB or Edge coaches but frankly I have been so busy with end of semester finals and grading that it is amazing I have kept up with anything. But... looking at the updated coaching roster shows some interesting things. https://goducks.com/sports/football/coaches Quarterbacks coach is Koa Ka'ai which was predicted to just get the promotion from within and it looks like the new edge coach is Kamran Araghi. both appear to be promotions from within. Lanning is certainly betting on himself and what he already has on staff. If it doesn't work out then I could see Lanning making some big moves in terms of coaches... but I am not feeling as confident about these two position coach promotions from within. Edges didn't produce enough last year.
  17. That's so awesome. I remember seeing other kids there. I was a bit too shy to just walk up to somebody I didn't know to say howdy. What an amazing coincidence.... I've revisted that show, both video and in my music collection. It's not bad to check in once in a while to bolster my memory. 😆
  18. Yeah, I don't care what the guy looks like if he does the work and becomes a great player for OBD. Looks like the timing will be for him to be ready for back up duty this coming year and maybe ready to start next year. That's a long time from now and a lot can happen. Glad he wants to be a Duck.
  19. Without being in the coaches room and without any backdrop...... We could consider these promotions were made to keep them from leaving Oregon to take possible promotions at Cal and Kentucky? Doesn't diminish that both our new DC and OC aren't extremely qualified. Remember only 2 players with remaining eligibility left for the NFL. Those who remained knew who their OC or DC was going to be. Speaks volumes to me. GO Ducks.......
  20. "OBD would have been lucky to get to 16 wins at full strength imo." I tend to agree. Injuries are no doubt a factor, belonging to a stronger basketball conference regardless of travel is also a factor. But, the 5-year trend is not good. 2024-25: 25-10, 1 NCAA tourn win 2023-24: 24-12, 1 NCAA tourn win 2022-23: 22-15, 2 NIT wins 2021-22: 20-15, 1 NIT win It appears the staff is stale in terms of both recruiting in today's environment and coaching. I don't doubt Dana's heart. Or, his career record. But, he may be too old to initiate the program changes that need to be made? I love what he has done for Oregon, and would hate to see him go out on a season like this, really hate it, but... I loved coach Mike Montgomery too. He knew when to retire. Dana's time may be coming.
  21. Looks like everything Dan Lanning said about Bryce Boettcher being an absolute animal even in practice was true! He may be slightly smaller than the prototypical NFL size but he clearly easily makes up for it in his ball knowledge and sheer physicality. I am excited to watch him at the next level.
  22. Great to see the PUkes right were we like them in Indiana ... dead ******* last.
  23. Whenever I see the name Riaola I can't get the picture out of my head. I sat there on a nice sunny Saturday afternoon in Bloomington and watched him throw 44 times and 3 interceptions. Granted his OL was being rushed liked crazy with Bryant's Haines's defense but a couple of those interceptions were just bad bad QB decisions. I have discussed him on X with other Duck fans (any of them here under a different name?) and I am just not that sold on him even with a great Oregon OL and a year to learn the system. But I am not a full time coach, just an old arm-chair QB expert I guess.

  25. I am curious if anyone knows what the Ducks will spend in NIL money for their 2026 team.
  26. Clif Marshall was the Strength and Condition Coach for Indiana's basketball team after his time working with the Cincinnati Bengals. I need all the recovery I can get at my age but I might have to pass on the recovery shoe that the Ducks will be wearing even with a high recommendation by an ex IU coach. 😎
  27. I have not read Joel Klatt's article yet but will. Your comment caught my eye about OSU, Michigan and Northwestern schedules. You know me, you're missing IU ... 😂 IU goes to Michigan, Washington and Nebraska. They play Ohio State, USC and Minnesota at home. Granted NOWHERE near as hard as Northwestern's schedule but there are at least 4 games there that could be a loss. But now looking at Michigan's schedule I see your point about leaving Indiana off your list of difficult schedules.
