He almost got Noah to Georgia, that good. He also took a 5* out of Arizona and got him to go to Georgia. Not we just need some Georgia big ugly to come to Oregon, Go Get Them Coach!

Translated, we won't know anything for sure until it is announced. Basically Canzano knows nothing more than we do, maybe less.

What Would Lanning Bring, What Would We Expect?

Speculate, lament repeat, right? -
81 alumni reminded me of one of my favorites. Back when Bend had bumperstickers on their garbage trucks which read, 'California Welcome Wagon.' We had a much better sense of humor back then! Keep drinking local!

Lanning was in on the recruitment of Noah Sewell, who almost went to Georgia. He also recruited Kelee Ringo, 5* DB out of Arizona to Georgia. His recruiting would be a great addition, or continuation. I would hope our recruiting would stay at or above what we have seen. The development of talent would elevate. The Georgia starting defense is all juniors and seniors with freshman and sophomores backing them up. This is how you develop talent. He has seen it and put the development of talent to good use, while being part of that process. He has also seen programs dominate. He was part of Alabama and Georgia. I expect he would know how to coach and delegate. We need a coach who can know what he does best and gets out of the way. I would expect him to get somebody to run the offense and let him get to work with all the talent, and let it shine! I would expect him to make some mistakes. He got outfoxed by Saban, but it will be interesting to see how his defense reacts next time. While I would expect mistakes from Lanning, I want to see him innovate out of those mistakes and his team to rise up whenever challenged. What would you see with Dan Lanning or hope for any other coach we may hire? I would agree more experience, but I am ok with this guy learning on the job, as long as he learns!

What is telling to me is the exact same people who hired Cristobal, fired Manny. If you want to know how you will be treated, once the honeymoon is over, check out how the last guy was treated.

On recruiting Lanning brought Kelee Ringo 5* DB from Arizona to Georgia. This is what Noah Sewell said at the time of his committing to Oregon. “There is a real brotherhood over there,” Sewell said. “That starts with coach [Glenn] Schumann. I’m just real thankful for them for giving me the opportunity to go out there and thankful for coach [Dan] Lanning and thankful for coach Kirby Smart. He’s a very good man and I am just grateful for all of them.” This recruiting race had a twist or two. “It was really close,” he said. “My mind was going back and forth and then it just came down to how close I was with $%@&%*!!!! (Sorry for the editing) and the whole coaching staff and the players.” Sewell said Georgia even took the lead after his official visit for the Notre Dame game on Sept. 21. “That place was just very special to me,” Sewell said about that visit. “It will always have a spot in my heart. It just came down to just me being at Oregon.”

I frame it as a great choice at the time, it did keep the train going almost to a National title. I also give kudos to Helfrich for trying. It isn't the things in life we do, it is the things we don't do we regret. Helfrich gave it a go, good for him. It is also evident from the lack of effort on Helfrich's side, trying to become a better head coach, and the lack of interest throughout college football, being a head coach wasn't his thing. Great chapter in Oregon Football, but we are on to the next. All the angst and cheering of the past do nothing to change the history or our future, onward!

I would add recruiter and developer of talent, who can coach. I am tired of the whole hotshot recruiter concept. In the end it is the product on the field which matters. I don't want to hear about our recruiting numbers more than our scoreboard numbers ever again!

I mean...Did They Not See This Coming?
Haywarduck replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Down south they have a term all hat and no cattle. In Miami, I think it is all speedo and no stroke, and that is the Hurricane program right now. By the way, as a swimmer, nobody wears a speedo anymore. -
Mike Bellotti: Why Not a One-Year Interim Coach?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My prediction of Mike Bellotti and then Matt Rhule could come true. I also don't think the idea of having Bellotti onboard for Lanning to get Oregonized is a bad idea either. Alabama waited until after the New Year to hire Saban. They knew he had to stay on to coach Miami. If we truly want Rhule the Bellotti idea is brilliant. I think you make a great point with any coach really hitting the ground running at this late point. They will trip over the recruiting and then the bowl game. A new coach then will struggle with how things are done at Oregon. Most well run companies have a President, CEO and then a Chairman of the board. Phil Knight was chairman of the board until about 5 years ago. Why football programs don't have a chairman of the board position, when you have a Bellotti type figure, is beyond me. It might turn off some coaches, but a coach like Lanning may be very grateful for somebody to show him around. Having support staff, facilities is a critical component to a successful, happy coach. If Bellotti, and even Brooks could be on the Board to help, just advisors it might be just what we need or the perfect transitionary coaching situation. Is Mullens on this, probably not, that's right, all we know is he is calling people, and the rumor mill. Somebody from FishDuck get Mullens on the phone, or get Canzano on the phone so we can speak to Mullens, or however it works, now! -
It IS Certain: Lanning IS a Candidate for Oregon HC Job
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This part certainly did. "The eventual Oregon coach will replace Mario Cristobal, who departed the Ducks for the University of Miami." Some of the clearest reporting I have read in days. -
cartm25 No. 39 Posted 5 hours ago · IP I have no idea what reports to believe, but if the Ducks don't hire this guy that I never heard about before 5 minutes ago, I'm going to be devastated!! Post of the day and might be the best of the weekend, in case you didn't see it. Speaks volumes about how many feel about the coaching decision.

And the staff at the University of Miami get pay cuts, nice! Well thought out and executed, can't wait until the first game! https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/article256465056.html

I have a feeling if it is Lanning he will get all the support he needs to succeed. I could see even having Bellotti on staff for a year to help him Oregonize!
-
I hope it doesn't go to 6-0, we need a coach! Interesting our first two major opponents next season have coaches we have taken a shot at.

Well placed skepticism, but I like the click!

Wooooow, Nelly! If Chip did it all by himself, that idea was a large part why he left, too full of himself, then it would have continued. We need to be careful about bringing somebody in to repeat what he did, when he can't even come close to doing it again anywhere else. There are plenty of coaches who have the same type of record. Let's bring in Coach O, he actually won a national title if we are merely going to try and bring in somebody to do a magic show again.
