  1. Because the Zips want to keep wearing the swoosh.
  2. JoMo quits and gets paid for another year? Not likely. More likely that he is not charged for breaching his contract because he accepted a head coaching gig outside the conference at a non-P5 school.
  3. We may never know the details, but not much of this seems right. There is plenty to do at Akron. Ducks should not owe JoMo anything, as he quit to accept another job before Mario made his decision. But it would not surprise me if JoMo asked uncle Phil for a shot at leading the offense without Mario holding him on a pass rush like O-line guys often do. And Uncle Phil made it worth Akron’s while to let JoMo try his mojo on Oklahoma.
  4. Mirabal can move on and the Duck O-line won’t be any worse off—unless they are graded on hand position. Forsyth knows the pass protection calls that should be good enough for Ashford to make plays.
  5. Good for Oregon to ask, but risky for Sitake to interview. Best case he gets a mid level offer from the Ducks to leverage a better offer from his BYU family. Worst case he is shunned, and has to accept the Duck offer, which is then rescinded because Aranda accepts a max tier offer.
  6. Would be a great hire, but would need assurances before the playoff game in order to retain players and recruits. Pretty hard to keep things secret that long with the number of players involved.
  7. This is a head scratcher if true. I can’t see Jo Mo doing this unless money is on the line. Not sure if he gets a bonus, Uncle Phil is making it worthwhile for Akron, or both.
  8. No question that AB was pressured. Easy to stunt and blitz a slow twitch quarterback facing press coverage with 7 on 5 and an undersized running back.
  9. Teams and coaches negotiate contract buyouts at less than full contract value today.
  10. The math doesn’t look good for either the coach or the school. A coach signs a 5 year contract for $55 million, and doesn’t work out. But he sticks around. The team loses games, recruits, donors, season ticket holders, bowl revenue, and fan support. School can’t get rid of the Coach without paying his ransom. No deal.
  11. I like your criteria but want to add: 3) A coach with proven character, not a proven character. Aranda or Sweeney. ”Greatness or weakness emerge early.” ~ FishDuck
  12. Agree on the concept, but let’s not whiff on the person again. Dabo.
  13. Good info. Since Cristobal and his representatives would be expected to be aware of the school’s history of honoring and enforcing liquidated damages, is acceptance of the liquidated damages of this contract expected?
  14. Steven, how do you balance this contractual burden enough on the coaches side to get anyone to sign on the dotted line? Would the school agree to pay the coach and all assistants the remaining contract value for termination before the end of the contract? A coach could get rich by not showing up?
  15. Dabo has enjoyed a stable ride for sure. But the AD is rumored to Miami, DC is gone to Sooners, and the OC is soon to be a Cavalier. That could be the stampede that cuts Dabo loose.
  16. Can’t ignore his love for the state, but he may lose a big part of his support, and some key coaches very soon. If he believes he has to start over, why not with the University of Nike?
  17. I can’t say if Mirabal was a good O-Line coach, or if the line calls were good, but I suspect passing pockets were good enough for most elite quarterbacks. AB is a strong guy with slow twitch. No pocket is good enough for more than a three step drop for a slow twitcher.
  18. Is Dabo Sweeney head and shoulders above the rest?
  19. Agree! Slow the boat! And no more Andersons from Utah State to the state of Oregon, please!
  20. Could there be a better fit? A coach that looks good in green, humble, hard worker, can adjust to beat an OSU team the second time around? The only question is can Uncle Phil wait until January 2?
  21. Jon, if you tune in long enough to see AB starting, will you be able to walk away? Based on my experience in traffic, most people can’t help but watch the wreck.
  22. DeRuyter’s defense underperformed the talent level of the roster. May have been because of injuries, head coaching influence, or a poor offense. In the end, Coach D gets an F and moves on.
  23. Feld is all Mario.
  24. Ducks had the luxury of two good kickers this year, and Katleman didn’t have a leg to stand on.
