  1. I think this gives Cristobal more motivation to push his recruiting into SoCal even harder. But here's something to think about. He is already more successful than any other coach from Oregon at recruiting east of the Mississippi. He knows this What is also east of the Mississippi? An open LSU job and most likely Miami job; and now Oklahoma (not east of the river but east of here). Pulling SEC level talent out of the SEC is an incredibly difficult task even on the east coast. Cristobal knows this. Would it be enough to make him start practicing "Geaux Tigahhs" in the mirror?
  2. If Rattler is willing to come to Oregon I'm totally fine with it. As long as the conversation that is had with him is that the position is an open battle. Let iron sharpen iron. There will clearly be attrition at the position with Ty, Butters, Ashford, and Tanner Bailey all on the roster next year; but whoever rises out of that slugfest will be an absolute force to be reckoned with.
  3. If Jonathan Smith leaves its not for a Pac-12 job. I see him getting a raise and extension. If not, I could see him taking over a big time Big 10 school (Michigan State, Penn State may both have vacancies). I could also see the League coming after him as a well paid OC in the near future.
  4. I have a pup co-worker in my office who totally believes that Washington will win. He also believes that the "dawgs" recruit better quality players on both sides of the ball. When asked why he believes this, despite the obvious signs, he brings up the Stanford game from last weekend. When asked what made him believe that prior to last week's game; he states that it is just obvious. Fusky fans seriously have nothing of substance to brag about this season yet will look you dead in the face and tell you their team in better. This is supposed to be the school that is better academically? Clearly the fanbase is unaware of this. *Side Note* He also refuses to place a small wager on this weekend's game, yet wants the entire office to bet money against him and his Arizona Cardinals every Sunday.
  5. Ah-ha when the ol' academic stats have to come out midseason instead of the on-field stats, you know your team is in trouble. Maybe they can spend next Saturday calculating Oregon's CFP chances after moving to 8-1.
  6. This is the year the War On The Willamette (I sure hope this is the new name) actually has far reaching implications. The Beavs have the best rushing attack in the conference. Both teams are tied for 1st in the north. Anthony Brown has to play better than he did against UCLA (zero interceptions); and the defense has to find a way to stop an elite run by committee offense. Knock on wood, but this game has the makings of a classic shoot out. The D line will need to be as stiff as ever. The secondary will have their hands full if Chance Nolan decides to be accurate. This is a game that decides who goes to the Alamo Bowl.
  7. Oregon 48-20 4 3 359 AB passes for 209 yards and sits midway through the 3rd quarter. Ty takes over and throws for about 150 and a pair of TDs. He would throw and score more but the ball stays on the ground for the last half of the 4th quarter (Classic Cristobal Clock run).
  8. Travis Dye would be carted off the field by the 3rd quarter if this was the 2019 pistol plunge offense. Plus it is finally an inescapable fact to Cristobal that Oregon operates best stretching the field despite his attempt to shove all 11 men into a phone booth.
  9. I would say Prukop is exactly who comes to mind when watching his play. Gets frustrated with the first read and if there isn't time to pitch it off to the RB he tries to take it himself. BTW Prukop had better ball security... 🤨
  10. Let's be honest. We will never see a corner turned with Anthony Brown that measures up to our expectations for a starting QB at Oregon. He's played below our expectations for so long we have developed a sort of Stockholm Syndrom with the guy. Let me explain. We are held captive by him/Cristobal this season. We are being tortured by him/Cristobal this season. The instant he does something that even somewhat approaches what we would consider average QB play, people start believing he has finally "shaken free of the mediocrity bug" (a kidnapper offering you 3 bites of food instead of one). We have been tortured by inconsistent play and held captive by Cristobal's refusal to move to one of the freshman that we have inadvertently lowered our expectations. We must continue to see Anthony Brown for what he is; in light of a slightly better showing. He is an inconsistent QB who occasionally makes decent plays. But the sum of the outliers (good plays) will not be enough to affect the average. He will make us angry all over again this weekend. Mark my words.
  11. I sure wish they wiped the floor with Cal because those Black Out unis were pretty intimidating. If only the on- field product mimicked said intensity.
  12. Brown finally started going more vertical and coincidentally these guys started showing out. Proof that even with an average vertical game the playmakers will make things happen. Brown is only now starting to realize this. He doesn't need to be Herbert or even Shough with the long bombs that wind up being horribly overthrown. Toss a 25 yard pass towards the boundary side and let Williams do exactly what he did (jump up and make the play). Go for 15 yards to Pittman pretty much anywhere in the field. The dude has already shown the lengths he'll go to in order to haul it in. Pittman was taking 70 mph pitches to the chest 2 years ago. Put it close to him and let him do his thing.
  13. I don't see Cristobal leaving for anything but Bama. Miami needs a culture change of Titanic proportions. Changing that by itself will take years; let alone fielding a championship level product on the field. However..........if he were to leave, Moorhead seems very capable as a leader and a coach; and is going to be an HC again someday. Furthermore, the pieces might fall in place at a certain school in Los Angeles if they choose to give their coach the boot. Would Chip Kelly, at this point in his career, feel more suited to just running the offense instead of steering the entire ship?
  14. This transfer portal freedom is no joke. Can absolutely change the recruiting power of a team if the right player leaves. Kingsley has the potential to be that game changer of a loss. We don't know what these guys are pitched by Mario Cristobal and company but 5* players these days expect to play early and often. Attrition is inevitable when you stack elite recruiting classes but definitely not expected this early. Here's to hoping this doesn't permeate the youngsters on the roster (i.e. QBs, Defense).
  15. Oregon 31-30 4 2 275 Only reason I don't have UCLA winning this is because I believe CK will use tempo, try to move fast but thus be prone to mistakes that Oregon capitalizes on.
  16. Does anyone think Chip Kelly hasn't been watching opposing offenses eat us up with tempo? I have a feeling we see a sort of return to form with CK and his offense this weekend. How ironic would it be for him to chew the Oregon D up with the "Oregon Blur"?
  17. The team that isn't AFRAID TO LOSE is the team that is destined for good things. This offense has reached its maximum capability and it looks like Cristobal knows this; hence the conservative play calls, the trying to run the game clock out with 3 quarters left to play. If these coaches were shooting for true greatness they would have given Ty first team reps during the bye week and told him not to be afraid to throw and INT if we put you in against Cal. They should have given AB one half to do his thing and Ty the other half. Let him go out there and run with the first team and start building the chemistry now. If Georgia stays on course then Oregon faces the toughest defense in the country right out of the gates. No Fresno State, no Stony Brook to get some kinks worked out. Ty needs to get his feet wet while he still can. Again, the team that isn't afraid to lose is the one destined for good things. Take a look about 40 miles to the north and tell me that is a team trying to cling on to a 7 point lead for 4 quarters. Jonathan Smith calls games looking to expose an opposing defense and then completely take advantage of them. Sure his QB will toss an interception but that offense just keeps rolling and rolling; knowing the explosive plays will come together. #freetythompson #letjoeloose
  18. If a coach needs a team to hit rock bottom every few of years in order to galvanize them into a successful unit then he may not be the coach that's around to reap the rewards.
  19. This scenario would be national championship worthy. With the talent at WR and TE just sitting there in 2021, he would use Freeman on the ground to open up a devastating pass game. Epic to think about.
  20. 27 points scored 30 points allowed (UCLA and Bowl game loss will skew this number high)
  21. 27 points scored 30 points allowed (Beavs and UCLA will skew this high)
  22. If you were watching the Skype interview with Jim Moorhead this week it was clear he was defending Anthony Brown and his production or lack thereof. Mostly alot of coach-talk. But if you heard what I heard in his defense of Brown, he mentioned something quite concerning but painfully obvious. The offense in 2021 is averaging approximately what it did in 2019. This is not good. This is a sign, maybe even an admission of sorts, that Cristobal has not been allowing the talent he has recruited to develop the way a top tier team should. How is this not the case? How is a team with MUCH MORE talent than the 2019 team consistently underperforming with better coaching on both sides of the ball? The 2019 team succeeded in spite of abysmal play calling ar the hands of Arroyo (look how well he's currently doing). This was a team that had hit rock bottom together in 2016 and probably didn't even need coaches in the end to do what they did as seniors. So is Moorhead starting to air some frustrations with his boss? Is he saying something that we have all seen? Or is he defending how low scoring, uninspiring football can still be successful?
  23. 10-4 Losses at Utah, Pac 12 Championship Game, and Alamo Bowl (because the team will have injuries, burned out) I agree that we could see Moorehead depart at the end of this season. There are so many HC openings even right now. It would be an absolute disaster if Cristobal chose to promote Jim "Toy Pistol" Mastro to OC. For all his stubbornness I believe Cristobal would fly the job open just like last time. He seems willing to learn; although at a painfully slow pace. By the team an offensive coordinator convinces him to coach with the adaptability of Nick Saban we may be playing football against Klingons. So it would be great for him to hire another coordinator with more experience than him. Also, I feel like even without marquee HC openings, Moorhead's patience with Cristobal's level of influence on the offense will only last so long. He knows he is one of the top offense minds in college football. Why put up with a head coach telling you not to implement certain things that you know work well? He could even leave for another OC job where he's given creative freedom to implement his design.
  24. If Joe Moorhead was allowed to actually run his offense I could see him at Oregon for years (or at least through a natty run). High paying position, not in charge of the whole game, gets to coach QBs. But if Cristobal doesn't loosen his grip, and soon, Joe may feel he has more freedom to implement his plan offensively as an HC somewhere else. 😕
  25. Exactly what they did against LSU with a QB that was suspect in the passing game. If there is a game AB gets hurt and stays out it'll be this one.
