  1. We are going. Gonna roast but it is what it is!
  2. I am wondering if there is an official word on the colors for the EWU game being changed to yellow on account of the heat? I have seen this pop up in threads on social media today but I have yet to see an official announcement from the athletic department.
  3. Now that the mystique of the Week One starting lineup has subsided. It appears the staff is no longer interested in hiding who get reps and how many. As of this morning's practice report, there is officially an uneven amount of reps split between Bo Nix and Ty Thompson (also Jay Butterfield). Does this officially start the transfer clock on Ty Thompson? The outward appearance seems to indicate Ty being relegated into a pure back-up spot and no longer a starting contender. The staff is not comfortable putting him out there when the starter is clearly drowning. Hell, they didn't even consider it; according to Lanning's post-game presser. If he isn't getting a chance this year who, in all seriousness, thinks he is going to wait another year for another QB competition? You may disagree but I am setting my sights on Stanford v Oregon. This is a team that, as of late, the Ducks have had a hard time putting a ton of point up against. It will be a home game, and if Bo Nix struggles, the crowd may get worked up like we did against Cal last year and start calling for a replacement. If a change isn't made, he is in the portal the following week. If Bo is good and we stack points on Stanford, it becomes apparent that Ty, yet again has no shot at starting and still goes to the portal. It is a fickle beast the college football world has become. The best we can do is try and read the tea leaves...
  4. I don't think this version of Lannings Ducks are going where we initially expected them to go. That being said, I believe he is a man willing to do whatever it takes to get an Oregon team(s) back in championship contention. He is young, though he's learned from the best. Unlike Crist-no-ball he is willing to adapt his philosophy, put the best people for the job in positions for success, and let them do their thing. It is his first head coaching gig. The stats on Kirby, Dabo and Nick in their first few seasons at their respective schools don't need to be restated (underwhelming). As long as he is willing put in the necessary time it takes to build a championship caliber team, I do believe he is going places that host playoffs. I do agree with the general sentiment on our QB situation. If Ty or Butters were good enough they'd have played. Dillingham needs to put parameters on Bo and let him play within those confines. No Hero Ball, just smart ball. Darron Thomas is always the best example when looking at someone who knew his strengths and limitations and played within them. Now let's go lay 77 on EWU.
  5. I think if we can start getting guys on the outside again; running through holes created by Tight Ends/Tackles (which we really didn't do under MC but did well under CK) we have a chance at putting some yards up on the ground. I am hoping Lanning's insight on UGA's D will give Dillingham the uneven matchups he is looking to exploit at the line.
  6. Oregon 34-31 2 TOs 3 Sacks 251 Passing Yards
  7. I believe the most important key to success in this game, or any if Oregon hopes to re-establish itself as an elite offensive unit, is a return to a TRUE spread with tempo. Ol' Crist-no-ball operated a SINO (Spead In Name Only) offense. Sure he would put 3 receivers out wide and very occasionally send a RB on a wheel route or bubble screen. But he predicated 99% of his scheme on running the ball through 2 holes (3 when Penei Sewell was here). Defensive Coordinators would dare MC to throw the ball; knowing the unlikelihood of a big shot to be taken. There would be no bewilderment as to the scheme when the WRs would spread themselves out; the same play was very likely to be called (up the middle, through the meat grinder). The excitement that came from watching Ducks teams from the 20-teens was based in the fact that CK/MH took literally nothing off the table; with regards to how they spread the ball out. CK's sole intent was to create havoc in mismatches and then re-exploit those mismatches as soon as possible; over and over until the spirit of the opposing DC was visibly shaken. This needs to be the mentality of a coach that wants to win big games and leave no doubt against lesser opponents. Dillingham seems to be saying all of the things that would excite a fan of "real" Oregon offense. The test will come in how true to these words he remains. A foot-on-the-neck mentality must be instilled in the offensive culture if Oregon is to remain a contender in ANYTHING beyond conference championships. KD doesn't have to re-write college football offensive strategy as CK did; he just needs to re-establish what worked so well. Remember, DCs all knew what Chip Kelly would do but were relatively helpless to stop the speed. Make them helpless to stop the speed again...
  8. Bo Nix may prove that he's a cut above the rest but he has not done that yet. His low 60% avg. completion rate (against SEC defenses, I'll give you that) could increase in the PAC; but is his tendency to force plays that turn into dumb interceptions going to magically disappear? He's already demonstrated it in front of Oregon cameras (Spring Game) and then very likely again last week (see Bennet Williams INT). So if the bar for our QBs is to throw as many, or less, picks as Bo does then we're giving them pretty substantial lee way. Bo Nix threw 7 INTs in his last full season, 6 before that. If we are going to assume he throws that same average this season, do you really want to just come out and call him a cut above? Thompson is unproven talent. So is Quinn Ewers even with the 5*. Lanning/Dillingham brought Nix on as proven talent but that doesn't mean he's an upgrade. He beat Bama sure, but Oregon beat Ohio St. on the road, against possibly the #1 QB to be taken off the board this year. Would you roll with Anthony Brown THIS year if he had an extra year of eligibility? Nix is solid I'm sure. But we are hoping for more I think.
  9. Steve Sarkisian has seen enough and is rolling the dice with the true freshman. Should Dan Lanning and Co. do the same here? Let the kid take his lumps but come out gun's blazing? FYI.....I say YES Quinn Ewers named starting quarterback for Texas Longhorns football WWW.ESPN.COM Quinn Ewers, who transferred to Texas from Ohio State after having not attempted a pass last season, beat out Hudson Card to be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns in 2022.
  10. So much of me wonders if Cristobal would have even made it as a head coach at Oregon; were HE the one hired to replace Helfrich after he was canned. Cristobal would have to pick a team up from the worst season in 25 years (Taggart at least did well with what he had to work with). He would have gotten an extra season with Herbert and I do not mean this in a good way. This would have been an extra season under the tutelage of a man hell-bent on making the QB a non-factor in games. I feel like after 3-4 seasons, the crowds with pitchforks would be massing at Rob Mullens doorstep demanding a change. AB had his faults, as evidenced by his prior stint at Boston College. But with an offense full of playmakers, all he had to do was get the ball to them and take care of the ball. He took care of the ball just fine but never got the opportunity to get the ball to his play makers in mismatch situations. That offense was more vanilla than a Portland State spring game and it was all MC's fault. He hired one inept OC and his next one quit. He would have gotten himself and Rob Mullens fired if he was hired as HC instead of Taggart.
  11. USC should simply be the first three letters on every list of "Over Hyped" schools every season until they make it to a conference championship with more than 5 wins! (see 2020 season).
  12. Analyst Names 5 'Overrated' College Football Teams In Preseason Top 25 Polls - AthlonSports.com | Expert Predictions, Picks, and Previews ATHLONSPORTS.COM On Monday, the Associated Press released its official Top 25 Poll. It's the last to do so of the major publications, meaning we now have a good idea of what Fox Sports and now Athlon Sports have Oregon as over rated in 2022. Looks like a combination of coaching turnover, uncertainty at QB, as well as a few other positions has given some of these news outlets a second thought about our outlook this season. I believe if we are on this list we are definitely last. We have reloaded at the necessary positions for this season; with the exception being QB (unproven product). What remains to be seen is what this coaching staff does now that the keys have been handed to them. Do we swoop down in an F-22? Or do we keep heading down Hwy 99 in the old ranch truck that Mari-0 repurposed the Ferrari into?
  13. I am calling it now that Jackson Powers-Johnson will be making a move back to the offensive line if not by the end of this season, then definitely by next as an insurance policy. He's like a DJ Johnson; put him on the field and let him hit people.
  14. If we are staying at 12 schools I would take SDSU and UNLV. Keeping the SoCal footprint is vital moving forward and SDSU has the feel of a Pac 12 school. Adding UNLV feels like getting in on the ground floor of an emerging market. TV and location wise, its great for getting the brand to the viewers. It helps that it is the current home of the Pac 12 Championship Game. And an influx of Power 5 money would help recruitment/retention immensely (so would firing their football coach)! After all, this is the place where advertising and flashy marketing was essentially invented. I love the idea of BYU joining. If we went to 14 teams or more I would want to see Boise State in there somewhere unless they genuinely don't want to move up. It would add the state of Idaho and I could see SDSU and Boise State getting a pretty substantial rivalry going.
  15. My wife bought her and her sister 40 YD line front row tickets to that game. $240 dollars later, she refused to interact with anything pink for a full year...
  16. They've worn pink twice before. I'm hoping that's a rough design and they color match the name tape, shoulders and numbers. Otherwise there's just way too much going on with that uniform.
  17. Are Pink Numbers Returning to Oregon Football Unis? | Uni Watch UNI-WATCH.COM Oregon's Breast Cancer support extends to the uniforms… Did we just get a look at the 2022 uniform combos? This picture from Instagram has since been taken down so its a possibility. Not much difference from last season's. What are your thoughts?
  18. If we are looking at it strictly from a geographic standpoint, as David Shaw says; then the west coast is still in a weakened position compared to the Mid-west, Northeast, and Southeast. This will leave us no better off than the current conference structure from a TV media rights perspective either. The Midwest and Northeast (traditional BIG 10) would command the most leverage with respect to Fox Sports rights. The Southeast (do they even need to change their name?) wouldn't have to do a single thing different from what they are currently doing. This would still leave the West Coast to fight for scraps as far as media deals and TV timeslots. The only thing we would potentially benefit from here is an expanded playoff format. This could at least create a situation where, if Oregon becomes the perennial west coast powerhouse, the west coast would have a seat at the table in most seasons. It just seems like a power 4 conference "reset" based on geography leaves us in a similar predicament to what we are currently facing now; with regards to the respect the left side of the Rocky Mountains gets with football.
  19. 10-2 Losses will be Georgia and (I know its a home game but...) Utah. Hopefully I am proven wrong....On both accounts!
  20. I'm giving Butterfield a slight edge going into camp. He has shown more growth in comprehending the offense and taking care of the ball than Thompson has as of late. That's not to say Thompson hasn't made strides either. But if we are basing where they are now versus their star rating when they started their first season, it is clear Butterfield has developed more. In my opinion, he has essentially caught up to where Thompson was when he saw his first game action in 2021. If there is no clear separation between Thompson and Butterfield at the end of camp then Butterfield needs to be given the #2 spot. This means he has fully caught up to and maintained the same skill level as Thompson. Whoever gets #3 is gone next year. No one can afford to wait with Dante Moore coming on board. If Butterfield leaves I see him as a great fit at Fresno State. Would easily pick-up and thrive in the offensive scheme that they've used with Jake Haener. If Thompson leaves I see him going Big 12. Maybe an Iowa State or Baylor type school. Dave Aranda would love him. But so would we!
  21. Preseason Camp Preview: QB - University of Oregon Athletics GODUCKS.COM Assessing how things stack up for the UO football program entering the start of preseason camp Aug. 5. I'm going with Nix at QB1. But what about #2? Has Thompson done enough to earn the spot or is Butterfield going to surprise us?
  22. Oregon Recruiting: Ducks become contenders to land RB Richard Young DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM 5-star RB Richard Young is predicted to go to Alabama, but some recent events might favor the Ducks instead.
  23. It's only fair to pair the #2QB in the nation with the #2RB for 2023...
  24. Dante Moore, Oregon Ducks QB pledge, rises to nation's No. 2 overall prospect, behind only Arch Manning - Scorebook Live NEWS.SCOREBOOKLIVE.COM 247Sports updated its class of 2023 national rankings, and newest Oregon Ducks quarterback commit Dante Moore made a significant jump. Rated the nation's No. 8 What a stacked QB room. If Dilly can deliver the sky is no longer the limit; the MOON is!
  25. Since it's become clear that Miami's donors will throw any and all money at recruits in order to secure their commitment (Jaden Rashada, Jayden Wayne), there is essentially no such thing as an accurate prediction any longer. These last minute NIL deals to flip recruits are becoming more and more common. Here's to hoping Dante Moore has already made his decision!
