  1. When teams undergo the emotional extremes that marked the game in Seattle, the following week of practice can only partially limit an inevitable hangover from that experience going into their next game. While the Ducks shook it off after one quarter, it almost did in the mutts to the worst team in the PAC 12.
  2. Got it recorded, but just can’t hit play. But then I have the luxury of wallowing in my pain until it subsides enough that when I finally do press play, I’m looking past the game towards next year’s rematch. Good thing the team can’t afford that comfort zone needing to review and be ready for the next game. I envy that right now.
  3. Not sure 2 pt conversions are as much a product of risk in the eyes of either coach as understanding defensive grouping and player strengths within those groupings. If the % shows an advantage, you go for it, just like Lanning suggested was the case on his 4th down at the end of the 2nd quarter. If that plays well in a recruit’s living room, so be it. DL can get the bit between his teeth, but that’s a learning curve that aggressive but open-minded young coaches have to weather. Don’t really see Cristobal as either that aggressive or open-minded.
  4. Klatt sounded the right note on DL’s play choice ending the 2nd quarter. It’s the kind of risk young, aggressive coaches make, and have to learn from experience to situationally temper. Everyone has to build that, “. . . now, wait a second” library in there heads in order to survive and succeed. But, you know? I’ll take a guy whose eyes tell me how determined he is to win over someone’s who don’t every time.
  5. Agreed. I’m not overly concerned about our motivation for home games against USC and the Beavs , and away at Utah. What concerns me is not being ready for motivated Cougs, Cal Bears and Sun Devils.
  6. As previously stated, PK was wearing his fan shoes, like the rest of us, at the time of his reaction. Do you really think he attained what he has by making decisions based on emotional impulse?
  7. Like the perspective of Alec Dietz in today’s RG. Failed attempts on 3rd down led to the do or die 4ths. Against a top ten team, that’s always going to be a huge challenge. The ‘back to the drawing board’ rehash for the coaching staff needs to review how both plays contributed to outcome, and how they need to work together in order to achieve — not just the one.
  8. The 2022 loss was mostly the result of the injury to Bo, and the incurred loss of momentum. Certainly, there were questionable coaching calls, but the injury changed the game. If you were not at the game yesterday, you can’t imagine how loud it was. I’ve attended many, many Husky Stadium games, and I’ve never - repeat NEVER - heard it as loud as it was Saturday. It was Autzen loud. As Autzen fans know, that level of fan participation affects everything. Opponents get hesitant and have a hard time finding there rhythm while it puts the home team into overdrive. Coaches are affected by this happening to their team, and they make calls they might otherwise not make just to try and shake things up which often lead to disastrous outcomes. I’m not one to make excuses. Coaches must own up and correct their mistakes. But, a stadium like we played in yesterday gifts anywhere from three to ten points to the home team. That’s why it’s only round one to the mutts. See you in Vegas for the rematch.
  9. Ever more reasons why we learned many years ago when attending games at puppy kennel stadium to: (apologies to Teddy Roosevelt for the paraphrase) speak softly and carry a big dawgy bag.
  10. I think even Dan would agree that, as a head coach, he is work in progress. That said, I’d take his upside to anyone else in the PAC-12, including DeBoer.
  11. Great post. Yet again, reminded that the really successful coaches never forget that they are first and foremost educators; that student athletes describes exactly who they are dealing with. DL gets that.
  12. Thanks SD92, for some great, and not so great memories! My wife and I were at most of those Seattle games too. Maybe because we’re older, we didn’t get hit quite as hard as you, but lots of snarky, typical mongrel stuff that just rolled off our feathers. Have to admit the best was hearing NOTHING from them during the Seattle section of the 12 game run, especially as they slumped out of the stadium during the 12th loss to our chant of, “12 more years! 12 more years!” Thanks again for the memories!
  13. Awards follow performance. I’d agree that at this point, Bo is an also ran. But, he’s shown the big game knack for rising to the occasion (against us while at Auburn). Plenty of opportunities in front of him, however I’d also agree that when it comes to trophies, the Heisman pales for him in comparison to a NC.
  14. Ask him if his opinion is influenced by his memory of when Joey turned his long horns into cows at the Holiday Bowl.
  15. Only in the visitor’s locker room. The rest of us have to treat it like a camping experience. Speaking of our club frisbee championships, good thing it wasn’t a husky on the receiving end.
  16. Scoring right out of the gate and staying ahead is the best way to quiet the barking. But another is to keep the game so even as to stress the puppy pound into an anxiety-induced shrillness that doesn’t hit the playing field with the same impact. I’m in agreement with Nix. It’s going to be a brawl. What tips brawls one way or the other is slight edges, and Oregon possesses a balance that Washington doesn’t. Staying right with a higher ranked home team into the 4th quarter always creates gitters since they’re suppose to win. It can also lead to devastating mistakes. Get in their faces and stay there. All it takes is one point.
  17. What seems inevitable somewhere down the road are on-going non-conference contracts between the two big kids on the block. Imagine what B1G-SEC match-ups would do for viewership.
  18. Someone ought to warn Corso if he dons the mutt head he’s gonna get fleas.
  19. Nothing changes in regard to game planning and preparation. What does change is the cumulative effect of increased travel time and being ready for late fall Midwest weather. Nothing we can’t find answers for and adjust to.
  20. This coming off-season will undoubtedly find a shark pool of underachieving blue bloods in search of a new head coach circling Eugene thinking DL is ripe for the picking because of 2024’s rebuild. I think they will find that we are quite prepared and ready for their anticipated onslaught. When you’ve gone through this process as often as Oregon has, you learn the hard way, and the lessons eventually stick. That’s why this time we settled for nothing less than the character and abilities of a person like Dan Lanning. There’s plenty of coaches out there who know how to win. It’s finding one who appreciates what is offered, and wants to deliver on that challenge. I see no reason to doubt that DL is that kind of person. Anything can happen. We’ve been burned often enough to know that. But, add together the knowledge from those experiences with our hard earned success, unique image, facilities, unrivaled backing and recruiting prowess, and I think you could say we’ll be ready to hold onto our guy. No, we not a blue blood. We’re a New Blood.
  21. If you consider the audience rather than the source, it’s difficult to say how much impact such a deception might have on their offensive scheme. It might cause their plan to shift a bit from wherever KJ is, or emphasize routes and depths they feel have a higher percentage chance of success with him on the field. But, the proven confidence they have in Penix’s throws overrides any of those concerns. I doubt if any additions or subtractions from our db group will trouble their offensive plan in the slightest. In other words, my feeling is DL is being straight up with his message.
