  1. Oregon became boring very fast after Herbert moved on to the NFL. I listened to fans at Autzen booing the play calling on the field. Our QB will largely determine just how explosive the offense will be this year. From what I have seen we have a few QBs that could be very good players. We seem to have guys that can get it done. In my opinion, some of the most exiting plays to watch develop are the downfield passes. Watching a receiver break free, the QB anticipating the route as he launches the pass for a clean strike, is football drama at its best. I look forward to a fresh start for this team.
  2. I know that if I had to write a column, or discuss PAC12 college football on a regular basis I would definitely use this site as a resource for ideas. There are many good topics discussed here. Read Canzano’s article regarding NIL. Apparently, an act of Congress will be necessary to regulate the amounts boosters are paying to athletes. I will avoid commenting on who is actually providing guidance to Congress on how to fix this chaotic mess.
  3. Watched his junior season highlights. Impressive. This guy puts on the pads and plays football. Recruiting for the 2023 class did seem a little too quiet. This definitely livens things up a bit.
  4. I liken MC’s offense to the baseball strategy of playing “small ball”. A conservative strategy that allows opposing teams to keep games close. The physicality definition from Kamikaze is appropriate here, and very funny. As one of the top teams in the PAC12 it is tough to showcase your players to the NFL when you are having a tough time beating teams outside of the top 25. We finally have coaches that WANT to open up the offense and play tough defense. What a great concept.
  5. Bleeding green takes on a new meaning with the money that is currently being paid to help entice athletes to commit. Kind of feels like the house we grew up in has been torn down and we are being forced to return to a place that is much less appealing. I have no problem with athletes receiving money. They probably should have allowed a more measured approach long ago. However, with the numbers currently being thrown at some athletes, we will be confronted with problems that we haven’t even thought of yet.
  6. I assume a donor can be in contact with anyone, on any team, and be clear of tampering allegations. I don’t think the need for the coaching staffs input is necessary to know that an award winning player is a nice addition to the team. However, the team has players vying for starting positions and this doesn’t create that our team is family vibe. It may become stupid expensive to keep any top players…I feel like I am watching a slow motion train wreck that can’t be stopped.
  7. I don’t feel sorry for them. Misjudging their value on draft day might end their NFL dreams. While it may be a display of poor decision making, it is certainly not life threatening. It might be good for them to speak candidly to their teammates that have similar aspirations about their experience with the draft. Not everybody gets handed the golden ticket and they must be prepared for that outcome.
  8. Wealthy alums using money to help recruit players isn’t anything new. However, the buy in to get a seat at the championship table is probably getting more expensive than most anticipated. Good coaching only will get you so far….now the need for NIL $$$ to attract and then also keep good players is necessary to compete at a high level.
  9. Tough profession. With 53 players on an active NFL roster, and an average career length of 3.3 years, job security and wealth accumulation is not a normal attribute of an NFL playing career. I hope that the coaches mentor these young men about the long term importance of obtaining a college degree vs. playing time on Saturdays.
  10. The give me more NIL money demands from “agents” are here to stay. Aren’t these demands what you would expect from any NIL “agent” worth their salt? …. smh
  11. Looks like we should have a less predictable offense, and a few QBs that can deliver a catchable ball down field. Cota should provide experience and leadership in a deep, but young position group. Number 23 may shine once again as a starter on offense.
  12. Tough to have explosion plays when a high percentage of our pistol formation plays are literally running into a stacked box. Having watched a boring and predictable offense for the last few years I am more than ready to see some changes. Kind of bad luck that our new head coach and staff has their first game against the defending national champions. It will probably take a few games for the team to get comfortable running plays with a fast tempo. The first game leaves little room for error to have a legit shot at winning with both a new offense and defense installed. I will wait to see the product on the field before making the leap to compare it to one of the most prolific scoring offenses that anyone has ever seen.
  13. GoDucks_480x600_1516493835857063936.mp4 And enjoy a taste of THIS….
  14. Wow…Like I said above….How can you not be EXCITED!!!
  15. Recruiting at a high level definitely takes tenacity. Lanning started the hard work when he was able to keep many of the verbal commits and players that the last staff tried to take to Miami while working two full time jobs. Making a phone call to Jahlil Florence as he was headed to the locker room after winning the NC game is a moment that begins to sound legendary. Jahlil certainly will never forget that call. This staff has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. When they signed Conerly Jr. that definitely gained the attention of other recruits and builds momentum going into the spring game, and recruiting event. Confidence has to be high right now. What an exciting time for the coach and his staff. I know that all Duck fans are excited and we haven’t even seen them coach a game yet.
  16. Not researching it…but, as an educated guess, I think teams that recruit in the top 5 consistently like an Alabama, Georgia, and tOSU have to be closer to 60 to 70. Currently, the Ducks are well above the average on a national basis. 2021 College Football Team Talent Composite 247SPORTS.COM In order to create the most comprehensive Team Recruiting Ranking without any notion of bias, 247Sports Team Recruiting...
  17. Too early for the coaches to make the decision of exactly where people are on the QB depth chart. Until guys play meaningful minutes you never know who can manage the game and their emotions on game day. We have had highly touted QBs before that never played a game. Butterfield is a smart kid. He may not be that far behind any of the other QBs. We do need to get someone besides Nix game experience this year. It will be interesting to see how the coaches handle that situation. I was disappointed with the last coaching staff and the limited opportunities that they provided to our young QBs to gain game experience.
  18. If you can see my profile it should have contact info…I think…if not let me know…text me and we can connect. Btw…never required to bring anything to our tail gates…people generally over supply everything.
  19. I would look for a smaller guide boat. When you say charter my mind leaps to a boat that Carry’s 10 to 12 people… you definitely don’t want that.
  20. For tailgating you would be welcome to join us anytime. Our tailgates vary in size, but usually have 10 to 15 people stop in to join us. We tailgate in the parking lots across from the main entrance to Autzen Stadium. Btw…watched Danny Ainge score over 50 points on our BB team in high school.
  21. September is a good time to go chinook salmon fishing on the coast out of Winchester Bay (mouth of the Umpqua River). There are numerous guides available that know the area very well. The fall run of chinook in that area is well known for fish that range from 20 to +50 lbs. It is approximately a 90 minute drive from Eugene.
  22. How many times in the past did we as fans express the need for taller WR’s that would create matchup problems? We now have a flock of receivers and TE’s that can create those match up problems. Kyle Kasper is a great addition to this team. Being 6’5” by itself creates match up problems. When this guy adds weight and strength to that frame…look out. Our QB’s have to be excited about the mix of size and speed available to them. If they can deliver a catchable ball to these guys we will put up some serious points on the board.
  23. I know that fear isn’t meant to mean that we cower at the thought of playing USC, that’s absurd. Therefore, having some fear/respect of an opponents ability should always be used to motivate the competitive spirit in both the coaching staff, and players. With that said, I fear that USC is improving and that we never underestimate their abilities as a team. As Dan Lanning and staff constantly reiterates they are striving to improve each and every day. That is part of building the winning culture that this staff is trying to instill in this team. Ultimately, if that is embraced that is a never ending task. I look forward to some epic games with USC in the future.
  24. Well stated opinion. A poor coaching hire would have been a huge set back for Oregon. Winning recruiting battles started very quickly and battling other high profile teams for top recruits is now continuing to be the norm. We have a staff that is up to the task. Making sports headlines because you are winning those recruiting battles draws the type of attention that we need. Top talent will definitely notice. I am a big fan of what I see and hear happening. I get the feeling that this journey will include a lot more check marks in the near future.
  25. I quickly learned to not schedule Fall or Spring afternoon classes in Deady Hall…Especially the 90 minute Tuesday and Thursday lectures…no air conditioning back then.
