  1. Most of these pre-season classics have been held in the central and eastern time zones because Dallas and Atlanta offered to host them and pay a lot of money. I’m hearing that we will see more of these in the West with the building of SoFi and Allegiant stadiums.
  2. I’m talking about the modern era of football when helmets weren’t made of animal skins.
  3. It depends on your definition of failure. 4 of the last 5 coaches won the PAC and won NY6 bowl games. Willie won 7 games despit losing Herbert for much of the season. If you’re talking about their post-Oregon jobs then all of them are failures as they were all fired. Except Belotti, who only lasted 9 months as AD. We’ll see about Mario, but history doesn’t favor him.
  4. Welcome to OBD. It would be a complete disservice to not allow Lanning to coach in the playoffs. After all, that’s why these kids play the game. Coaching changes are hard and recruiting hits come with the territory. You guys should know this just as well as we do. We’ve probably had the same amount of coaching changes in the last 10 years. The good thing is he has the transfer portal that is filled with over 2K players. The recruiting analysts at Oregon will probably help with recruiting and analyzing portal candidates while he coaches UGA. We know we’re not getting everybody who was committed before Mario left. It comes with the territory, but Mario didn’t leave a bare cupboard either. The Duck roster is pretty decent.
  5. I get what you’re saying, but Belotti’s first HC job was at Oregon and he’s in the NCAA HOF. Chip’s first HC job was at Oregon and he went to 4 BCS bowls in a row to include a NC game. Helfrich’s first HC job was at Oregon and he won a Rose Bowl and went to the NC game. Granted, Helfrich was fired for sucking. Sometimes the institutional leadership helps the coach to succeed. Pat Haden was the reason USC failed. Not the departure of Pete. Mullens saw the writing on the wall with Helfrich and fired him with a winning record. His hires may not have stuck around but the Ducks went to a bowl every year since Mullens fired Helfrich.
  6. Nate Costa could probably handle everything himself. He’s been around the program long enough. All kidding aside, I hope they keep him around. They would be crazy not to, really.
  7. Head coaching experience doesn’t matter. Like somebody stated earlier this week. Oregon has had 5 different coaches since 1994 and only 2 losing seasons.
  8. Really? That’s weird. His first HC job was at Oregon.
  9. The only coaches Oregon ever hired with significant HC experience was Willie Taggart and Mario Cristobal.
  10. Welcome to Oregon. Take off your coat and stay a while. Although, you may not have a choice depending on your buyout or performance.
  11. He would likely make phone calls and have some of the recruiting staff make visits. The important thing is having a name. He’s probably talked to a lot of the recruits anyway. Now he would just have to switch hats.
  12. This is another Tweet from Canzano. Pay special attention to the bottom line. That tells me all I need to know about his sources. Furthermore, has anybody else noticed that there are no more updates or rumors flying around about other potential candidates? They all seemed to come to an abrupt end when this story leaked.
  13. Fentress would have more credibility if he would quit throwing Helf’s 37-16 record in our faces and saying Oregon overreacted by firing him. Anybody who followed the program could see the team was circling the drain under his leadership.. The 2015 Utah blowout was my first indication that the air was leaking out of the balloon. The Alamo Bowl was bad as well, but the nail in his coffin was 70-21. He should’ve been fired promptly after that game. There was no way to recover the season after that disaster.
  14. This is right up there with “Mario has not decided to leave for Miami. He’s still mulling the decision over”. Now we know that Mario’s mind was made up in mid-November.
  15. Are you able to get this where you live? It’s a pretty good one as well.
  16. Leave it to “The U” to get busted during a time when it’s actually legal to pay players.
  17. Or USC with Riley’s offense and Cali QB’s who have decided to stay home. But seriously, if Oregon is playing Bama then something good is going on at Oregon.
  18. They’re good against middling competition. Bama made them look pedestrian.
  19. I love the defense angle to counter Riley. However, UGA’s pass defense hasn’t been great.
  20. Finebaum just mentioned something about Lanning to Oregon. He wasn’t definitive though. However, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. That said, I live in the Atlantic SE and I’m quite familiar with Dan Lanning. Great recruiter and great defensive mind. This is a total shift from the norm for Oregon (if true), but Duck coaches seem to do well with the support they get from the administration. It’s not splashy, but I hope it’s productive. he has recruiting connections in the SE and Midwest. I hope he keeps Salavea to lock down the West. Remember, Pete Carroll was a defensive coach and he did quite well. Hopefully, we can get some of those defensive players back who de-committed if this is all true.
  21. The portal is a good place to find kids who fit your system and also see game film on them against other college athletes. The portal is also a gamble if you don’t have a lot of film. It used to be your coach would help you find a team that fit you better (usually in a lower division). Now, kids just quit and go into the portal and hope somebody remembers them from their HS days. I’m sure some get help from their current coaches if they ask for it or if they’re being told they don’t fit with the team’s direction anymore. However, it’s probably the end for a lot of guy’s playing careers.
  22. My hope is Jerruh gets rid of McCarthy and goes with Kellen. Pittsburgh guys don’t belong in Dallas anyway. He’s been sent by the Rooney family to sabotage the Cowboys.
  23. 3. Jordan Bell can’t block out on free throws.
  24. It did nothing for UCLA. A school that Jim Mora consistently recruited top 15 teams to.
