  1. I haven't followed labor law closely but how would a collective bargaining agreement apply in a right to work state? A player would have the right to refuse joining the union so wouldn't they have the right to negotiate their own NIL deals? The school isn't the employer so they have would have no say in the matter. The professional CBA's impose a salary cap on what a team can pay, I don't believe they govern the additional money a player can earn with endorsements and appearances. Wouldn't the same hold for a college CBA? For example, Texas is a right to work state. A recruit could not be required to join the collective bargaining agreement. While the school gives him the same benefits as other scholarship holders isn't he free to negotiate NIL compensation without limits? The funds would be from outside interests who are also not signers on the CBA?
  2. Shocked, absolutely shocked. Iamaleava commitment sends Vols soaring in 247Sports recruiting rankings 247SPORTS.COM ...
  3. Every league has a champion because that is the way they are structured. Perhaps a more pertinent question is whether the 'teams' of today could compete with those we remember from out youth. Could the 2022 Rams penetrate the Steel Curtain? Could the last several NBA champions avoid getting swept by the '77 Trailblazers, let alone the Willis Reed led New York Knicks or the Red Auerbach Boston Celtics, teams that played as (gasp) teams? How would the Brooklyn Dodgers or NY Yankees of the same era fare in today's leagues? It is difficult to compare athletes of different era's. Today they are specialized and have trained all their lives for one sport, many times for one position. They look like better athletes but, as those of us who watched Steve Prefontaine can attest, guts and determination often triumph. Ronnie Lee wasn't the most gifted basketball player but I want him on my team every time. Not all of the athletes today have Name, Image Likeness as top of mind awareness but I believe there are enough to damage their respective sports.
  4. Belmont did hit a couple three's that were out of this world. One defied the laws of physics, the other defied all earthly odds.
  5. Football-preseason #11 ended losing 3 of 4. Men's BB-preseason #13 ended losing 5 of 7. Women's BB-preseason #10 ended with a disappointing loss but at least they were competitive and worth watching. Can't say the same for the other two. At least the national media respected the Oregon brand. Will that last?
  6. Roughly akin to letting the CEO's of the 30 member Dow Jones Industrial Average write the anti-trust laws. All the power will be in a few hands to the detriment of us all.
  7. Do we really believe donors make a cost/benefit analysis? In major programs they pony up millions to fire the current coach and his staff, then pledge millions more to hire the flavor of the day. U$C saw four head coaches and two interim in twelve years. Think Miami. In a few years they will repeat the process. The cost is millions per year. Why would NIL be any different?
  8. Reports: Oregon men’s basketball assistant Chris Crutchfield to become head coach at Omaha, his alma mater WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM Chris Crutchfield, who joined Altman’s staff at Oregon last April, is finalizing a deal to become the new head coach at Omaha, according to multiple reports.
  9. You have been close to the program for years. Isn't the idea behind the conditioning program similar to that of the Chip Kelly era?
  10. QUACK - Oregon Lands RB Transfer Noah Whittington WWW.ON3.COM Oregon lands a commitment from Western Kentucky running back Noah Whittington following an official visit this weekend.
  11. Article from yesterdays NY Times (Sedona Prince.) outlining the story and detailing some of the changes in the tournament. Requires registering for a free account.
  12. If the review takes more than 60 seconds rule it incidental contact and no penalty. If it requires 15 slow motion replays from various angles to determine "intent" they're guessing.
  13. Hugh McElhenny reportedly said going to the NFL meant a pay cut from what he got from boosters of the Dirty Dogs of the North. Hugh's teams went 11-8-1 during his time at Washington but that didn't slow down the money pipeline. For years cars and cash have flowed freely in the SEC yet the same few programs rule the top of the standings. All those lucrative handshakes didn't really change results on the field yet they continued unabated. Hope springs eternal, each year is a new season. Wealthy donors don't think about the NIL recipients that don't work out--surely the next recruit will lead them to the promised land. Lack of success didn't stop under the table payments, why would that change now that it is no longer cheating? I doubt NIL sanity will prevail without a governing body to set rules and then enforce them. At this time we don't have such an entity.
  14. Much like the stupid money being thrown about with NIL deals this didn't turn out to be a good investment. The football Brady used to throw his final touchdown pass was auctioned off for $518,000, ESPN’s Jenna Laine reports. The starting bid was $100,000 and a total of 23 people put bids in for the ball.
  15. Anybody believe this? 11. What is prohibited under the new policy? Subject to state law, the following is prohibited under the new interim policy: • NIL agreement without quid pro quo (e.g., compensation for work not performed). • NIL compensation contingent upon enrollment at a particular school. • Compensation for athletic participation or achievement. Athletic performance may enhance a student-athlete’s NIL value, but athletic performance may not be the “consideration” for NIL compensation. • Institutions providing compensation in exchange for the use of a student-athlete’s name, image or likeness.
  16. The shanty he left behind in Norman.
  17. To paraphrase an old saying "There is no NIL in team".
  18. Another Pac-12 assistant said he’s worried about the future of college football. “Disheartening, really,” the coach said. “College football will never be the same, and I believe you will see some good men get out of the profession if it isn’t cleaned up or regulated.” Reported multimillion NIL deal rocks college football recruiting world WWW.ON3.COM A report says a five-star recruit has signed a multimillion NIL deal. Coaches say the deal would be a game-changer, and not in a good way.
  19. Stuart Mandel in The Atlantic. The article is behind a paywall but the first few paragraphs are available and worth reading. Speculation is Nico Iamalelva Jr, who recruiting services had trending towards the Ducks, will be heading to Knoxvill, TN rather than Eugene. All conjecture at this point in time but indicative of the disaster facing college football. Five-star recruit in Class of 2023 signs agreement with... THEATHLETIC.COM Two NIL experts The Athletic spoke to believe this deal is the largest individual NIL deal signed by a non-professional athlete.
  20. No pictures including Jay Butterfield, he must be paired up with the walk on. Thought I saw a comment he didn't throw well yesterday, not a good sign.
  21. No. 5 LB, top 50 overall on 247 rankings. Jaiden Ausberry from Louisiana.
  22. My guess is the start of spring practice. The second session is scheduled for Saturday which means the visitors will be around the entire team and coaching staff.
  23. I decided to sign up for his free newsletter. For what it is worth the excerpt below relates to OBD's I'm buying what Jonathan Smith is selling at OSU. Also, I disagree with those who think Lanning is a hired gun who might ditch Eugene at the first sign of an SEC job. After talking with him recently I believe we may get to watch Lanning's three young sons grow up in Oregon.
