I chuckled at this paragraph from a NY Times analyst's recap of Day 1. Thibodeaux was a consensus All-America selection in 2021 and one of the top defenders in the nation for three years. The N.F.L.’s gossipmongers took an unexplained dislike to him this off-season, however, causing him to tumble below Walker and Hutchinson on the draft board. Justin Herbert, now a Pro Bowl quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers, faced similar vague whispers when leaving Oregon in 2020. It’s worth noting that N.F.L. scouting departments are still full of men who think that anyone who chooses to play in the Pacific Northwest over Alabama or Texas must be a filthy hippie.

From the linked article Papas says he recently negotiated an NIL deal for Kansas State transfer Nijel Pack that included $800,000 over two years plus a car. Pack was considered the No. 1 player in the transfer portal before committing to Miami. The deal was funded by billionaire John Ruiz, Wasn't Ruiz behind the Mario Cristobal hiring and the new stadium pipedream?

It looks like a couple of those highlight plays were against walk-on freshmen OL. -

Absurd idea but let's not forget there is a huge gulf between introducing a bill and having it taken seriously, let alone actually passing. -

Jurrion Dickey was a visitor for the spring game. Deciding right after a visit to announce is a promising sign. -
The Transfer Portal Is Causing Some Teams To Have Roster Problems
McDuck replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Pac-12 adopted guaranteed four year scholarships in 2014. I assume the rule is still in place although it didn't slow down Lincoln Riley. -
Easy, if they play for your team it is supreme confidence, probably nurtured by the coaching staff. If not they are arrogant --------s.

When an athlete enters the portal the school can cancel the scholarship at the end of the academic period when he entered. For example at a school on a semester system a football player entering during the season can lose his scholarship at the end of fall term. If he doesn't enter until January the scholarship remains until the end of spring. Revoking a scholarship is solely at the discretion of the school.

USC Fan Makes Fentress Laugh, and You Will Too
McDuck replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
His twitter account has the Seattle skyline, another tweet refers to the "Apple Cup fiasco", and the twitter platform suggests his followers might also like a few UW fans accounts. Aren't purple poodle fans much like backwoods hillbillies? -

Will There Actually Be 50,000 at the Spring Game?
McDuck replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The take from Canzano • A staffer in Oregon’s sports information department leaned in to me on Saturday as the spring game went to the fourth quarter and told me, “We’re estimating 42,000 in attendance today. That’s an estimate.” It was a sunny day with temperatures in the 60s and the turnout was tremendous. It felt more like 25,000-30,000 to me. It’s their house, though. -
The perks of having a high profile quarterback in the age of NIL. With 60+ scholarship teammates that is about $10,000 worth of gifts.

Wasn't the third quarter when the guest coaches called the plays?

The announcers are ready to award USC the crystal ball.

More empty seats than I expected. No Pac-12 network so will be following this thread with interest.

Had to look up Irele Oderinde to see where he is now. Apparently out of football (good!) but back at University of South Florida now in his "second season as the USF women’s basketball and men's golf program’s head strength and conditioning coach". Interesting career trajectory.
