  1. Taking a pay cut, this year he got $5.6 million, new contract will average $4.7 per ESPN. Another tidbit from the worldwide leader in sports "Kelly confirmed last month that he was in touch with his former employer, Oregon, about its head-coaching vacancy after Mario Cristobal left Eugene for Miami."
  2. Pretty much summarizes how I view basketball now. I watched part of last nights game. Glad to see them win but I don't really feel any connection to the players. Polar opposite to the Kamakizi Kids days.
  3. The 1976 team returned to Eugene Sunday morning to be met by a large cheering crowd and members of the pep band playing Mighty Oregon. I should add Oregon broke the UCLA 98 game home winning streak with the victory.
  4. Okay, KT's comments regarding another schools academics were as ill advised as Jimmy Lake's. That said, to challenge someone to a test that purports to measure native cognitive ability as proof that ones education is superior is also inane.
  5. Crepea is posting cliffnotes items from Lanning's press conference. Anyone else think he is referring to Florence? -- “It’s full steam ahead Oregon” and was the minute the CFP title game ended. Says he was on a FaceTime call with a player he was recruiting to Oregon immediately after the game.
  6. Well, Oregon just lost two running backs to the portal so we have room. Just kidding.
  7. UCLA DC and former Oregon DL coach Jerry Azzinaro has resigned
  8. Obviously assistants have direct on field coaching duties and can interact and instruct the players. I think GA's duties are similar, they can be at practice and instruct players. Analysts are restricted to film study such as breaking down practice video and whatever 'back office' type responsibilities are assigned. They cannot perform coaching or teaching duties. Can anyone clarify or elaborate?
  9. The article states Jake Long is joining the staff as inside LB coach. Isn't the limit ten on field assistants? Oregon already lists Lanning and ten position coaches. Should we assume Mr. Long is a grad assistant? The age is about right, 'Bama listed him as a 5"9' 228 lb dl whose last year was 2016.
  10. Opening filled, that didn't take long. Standout transfer quarterback Cameron Ward announces commitment to Washington State
  11. Before the season started ... Nick Saban says Alabama QB Bryce Young nearing $1M in NIL deals Alabama coach Nick Saban on Tuesday detailed just how lucrative those NIL deals have been for his quarterback. Saban, speaking at the Texas High School Coach Association's annual convention, said Young is nearing $1 million in NIL money. "Certain positions, probably, enhance opportunities to create value, like quarterback, and our quarterback already has approached ungodly numbers — I'm not going to say what they are — and he hasn't even played yet," Saban said (via The Athletic). "Hasn't even started. ... It's almost seven figures. And it's like, the guy hasn't even played yet. But that's because of our brand."
  12. I'm 100% behind an alternative arrangement. Let the SEC have their own sandbox and only play each other during both the regular and post season. How long before the Vanderbilt's and Kentucky's decided the Alliance had greener grass?
  13. Sad to see this thread taking on a "we didn't want him anyway" flavor made popular by bitter Huskies in years past. Right or wrong the kid envisions himself as another KT. It isn't surprising he followed KT's trifecta of HC, d-line coach, and S&C to Miami. Be classy, wish him well and move on.
  14. Totally agree with Charles, nothing to see except the headline. I'm not surprised, the author has posted seventeen articles on that one site in the past 24 hours. How much time can he devote to each one?
  15. Didn't Francis "transfer" to Oregon State for his senior year? As he would be required to sit out a year he exhausted his eligibility and could enter the draft.
  16. At first I thought the list was only modern era alumni until I saw Russ Francis. What about Pro Football Hall of Famers Gary Zimmerman, Dan Fouts, 'Marvelous' Mel Renfro, and some guy named Dave Wilcox? The Dutchman Norm Van Brocklin is a bit of ancient history. Any history buff writers out there? Jester just did a nice post about Len Casanova, how about a short weekly article profiling one of the Oregon greats, must have played prior to 1980? How many remember George Shaw was the #1 pick in 1955 by the Baltimore Colts? Broke his leg and was replaced by his backup Johnny Unitas, who had been cut the year before by the Steelers.
  17. Great post, I learned a couple things. I started truly following the Duck's with Bob Berry and the Firehouse Four. Some amazing talent passed through the sleepy football backwater that was Eugene, we have been blessed. Cas and Jerry Frei, my all time favorites.
  18. Darn you! Now I have to wait all weekend for the story to post.
  19. As I understand the process the Kickoff Games work to secure the teams. It is much closer to a bowl game selection. This wasn't a situation where the AD's of Georgia and Oregon decided they wanted a game, it was two programs that had openings in their schedule and were invited to participate. Oregon's next game after dropping the NC to Auburn was LSU at Cowboy Stadium, very similar to the Kickoff Game. I'll let the players describe their opinions LaMichael James "We wouldn't want to have it any other way," said James, a Heisman candidate. "If we're supposed to be one of the best teams, then we don't want to open up with somebody just to get a 'W'. That's not the way it should be. I don't want us to do that; I want us to go out and play the best team available." Darron Thomas "A game like this lets you know where you are from the jump," he said. "It's a big test for us, and we are all excited to kick off. We don't like playing a team that we could beat up on really easy. We want to compete."
  20. Disagree with the popular sentiment on the OOC schedule. Oregon finalized the BYU game in 2015 and the Cougars were 8-5 the year before. The Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game is national exposure in which I believe they try to match up national brands. How does Oregon enhance their image by running away from tough games?
  21. According to both Rivals and 247 he has one offer and apparently committed to an interim head coach. No word on whether the offer is still valid with the new staff. The future recruiting battles between USC and Oregon should be intense but I'm not certain this one rises to that level.
  22. Sports Illustrated recently estimated that 80% of retired NFL players go broke in their first three years out of the League. Now make them several years younger and even more immature. Give them even less sophisticated financial advice. Take away the standardized contract and replace it with ???. What could possibly go wrong?
