Everything HC Dan Lanning Said in First Offseason Press Conference
Guess I am in the minority when I don't care about coach speak things or "gosh I really love it here" stuff. Just don't be a horrible person and have us play an exciting brand of football. I don't need a daddy figure to glorify as the best human on earth like so many football fans seem to want in their head coaches.

Ducks Beat the Bruins 84-81 in OT
Fantastic! I remember driving up to Eugene after the Rose Bowl and getting into town about 2 hours before the UCLA game and getting the last student ticket and getting a seat on the baseline closest to the UCLA bench. We beat that team that went on to win the title. A good palate cleanser after the debacle that was the Penn State loss in Pasadena.

Its Gonna Be Nasty
I hope our D improves but to expect anything approaching what we just saw is a recipe for frustration a few years down the road when "he's new let him get his guys in" won't hold water anymore. But hopefully the Oregon D will improve but we shall see.

Caleb Williams Gets a Million Dollar Offer
I am very fine with this being above board and the actual players getting paid instead of just the coaches. Any money the players can make from a system that has profited off of them for decades is just fine. I hope Knight offers a million bucks to as many stars as possible.

The Coming Mid-Season Opt Outs in College Football
One thing I would try to do with early signers is to get them to take AP courses in high school so they can get a start on a degree and lighten the academic load during college. This would also help prepare the incoming guys for college academics. It might also indicate to parents the sincerity of academic intention by the coaching staff.

Lanning’s Bulldog Defense: I’m Impressed, Are You?
I have had a sneaking suspicion that many of Cristobal's highly ranked recruits are front runners who lack grit. I guess we shall see after Lanning takes over.

Canzano: Lanning Needs to Solve Oregon's "Identity Crisis"
More like a Tonka truck that mimics big tough trucks.

Oh No! Oregon is Losing Nate Costa
I think Graziani and Feeley were pretty good.

Noah was a Running Back in High School...
This is obvious to me but of all sports, coaches American football coaches are highly allergic to thinking out of the box. He would make an obvious guy to give a few carries at the goal line or short yardage.

Ducks Tame the Tigers, but can't Put Them Down
Cats like to play with their food sometimes before killing it.

Justin Wilcox on Why He Turned Down Oregon...
I guess this means Phil Knight wanted Wilcox? I can't comprehend it any other way.

Mycah Pittman Explains Why He Decided to Transfer.
I understand his frustrations but the decent character building thing to do in adversity when you pledge yourself to a team is to finish out the season. So in my opinion Cristobal misled and Pittman acted poorly. You simply CANNOT leave your comrades in the heat of battle because of petty grievances. Trying times are what makes a man/woman.

Mycah Pittman Explains Why He Decided to Transfer.
I told my friend this about Mario from very early on and he fought and fought because he is one of the homer fans that needs to have an idealized view of the head coach. But he came around eventually and especially when the blah blah about toughness never showed up consistently on the field.

Bizarre: Former Players Wanted Justin Wilcox Hired
So all of these guys asked for Wilcox to be interviewed and according to the narrative he did and was offered the job and then refused it? That seems odd. If true did none of the players ask Wilcox before sending the letter? That seems unlikely. Anyone care to make sense of this nonsense. And yes Canzano is only invested in clickbait and no I truly don't think he ever comes up with any interesting angles. But he is a good promotoer and muckraker.
-
Feldman and Canzano are saying the AJC article is correct and Lanning will be hired as HC
Now let's see if all those big time recruits are actually any good or just front runners who can't self motivate.

Was Mario Ever a Duck?
My cynical mind was he thought Oregon would await with baited breath his decision and hope he chose Oregon over Miami. And when Oregon took back the contract he kind of put himself in a bind and had to choose Miami instead of getting an even fatter raise at Oregon as he had hoped. But he was in a no lose situation I guess. I just find his "integrity" and "good man" schtick a bit much and he would have gone to the highest bidder. But then I might have also.

Was Mario Ever a Duck?
So much speculation and info flying around these past days. Might somebody clarify if Oregon's contract offer was pulled before Cristobal flew away after the last game? The reason i am asking is unlike most ardent college football fans I do not have much faith in coaches being anything but greasy used car salesmen wanting the most money. So is it feasible that Cristobal took so long because he was trying to push Oregon's price above Miami's and if(this is what I am unclear about) Oregon had offered more money then Cristobal would have just chosen Oregon and used the narrative that he needed to start what he finished. When the contract was (I presume) pulled then he could just use the narrative of returning home. So basically I think he would have stayed in Oregon if the money was greater but was surprised when Knight pulled the contract and used Miami as a fallback. I also believe that even if his mom is ill he used that as cover to go speak to Miami boosters in person. But I am cynical and I don't get on my metaphorical knees when it comes to the BIZARRE need to give adulation to college football coaches. In any case I am thankful we avoided paying this guy huge money to deliver limp results most of the time and I am okay with the prospect of playing smart offense instead of smug tough guy offense.

Was Mario Ever a Duck?
Kicking and screaming unless the contract offer is pulled when he was trying to play the two schools off of each other.

What did Mario Leave at Oregon?

Miami’s Big Gamble
I was anxiety ridden thinking Oregon was going to give a huge long term contrac to a clearly inferior coach that was also highly inflexible. Nice for him that he gets to go home but WHEWWW!

Mario to Miami: The Plan Started in November
I assumed his visit to his mother was a pretext to visit Miami officials.
