  1. It's nice to have a favorite team in football where 9 wins is not considered a 'good' accomplishment. I admit it sucks that Oregon lost to both UW and OSU esp. the way the games went. After that horrendous start in Atlanta, this season was a real surprise. Perhaps you'll feel differently if Oregon wins their Bowl game and even if you don't watch it, a win for Oregon gives them 10 wins and likely in the Top 15 in the nation at the last rankings.
  2. The two things that stand out for me are: 1) Finally Oregon State gets its due, and: 2) USC above Ohio St? No, I don't think so. Not imo. This is likely a sports-version of a politically-correct move to facilitate USC's move to the B1G and to generate a West Coast audience for the Playoff system, Question: does anyone here think that if USC and Ohio State were matched in a game this weekend USC would be the favorite to win it? I'm serious about asking this question. I'm not opposed to USC getting the 4th slot (cause I'm tired of seeing the Big10 and SEC dominate it) but USC will be hard pressed to beat UTAH Friday. Even if they do ... 4th in the Nation?
  3. So will I. lol
  4. Those of us who've followed and cheered for the Ducks since the old Hayward Field days remember when 9 wins was a dream for us to win. 10 games was a goal many of us hoped to see come around at least once or twice in a decade or two. There is no way this season was a 'bust' under any standard unless that standard is predicated on always beating the Huskies and the Beavers. Other than that, Oregon had a good season - a great one for a 1st-time head coach and an entirely new staff from top to bottom.
  5. Let's not forget, Oregon is still playing for a 10-win season, and that's something. Have we been so spoiled that 10 wins doesn't mean anything anymore? Of course not. Besides, if the game's in San Diego, maybe we'll get to see Justin on the sidelines with his alma mater and players. GO DUCKS!
  6. Yes, they are. It won't be easy nor will it be quick like Lanning's transition here at Oregon. I don't know many details about the program's status but I have to think Dillingham does know a lot more and must feel that he can succeed there anyway. I mean, he's a pretty bright guy and with the success he had here at Oregon, ASU couldn't have been the only opportunity out there for him. Time will tell, I guess.
  7. Away from Jackson State? Probably. This fella has a huge ego and I can only imagine his ceiling of interest. Personally, I believe it probably extends all the way up to the NFL level, eventually. Colorado definitely needs a new coach and is also definitely a move-up from Jackson State. But I imagine Deion will weight very carefully whether or not Colorado and the situation there is one that offers him the best option for realizing his dreams. Besides, it's pretty cold up there!
  8. I'm sure he will if given the time. I'm also certain he wasn't anticipating losing his hand-picked O.C. so quickly - so right now he has a lot on his plate. He's being tested in his new role as Head Honcho and he strikes me as the type of man who isn't afraid of a challenge. Watching him grow will be as rewarding for us as it is disheartening to our opponents. GO DUCKS.
  9. It's come to my attention that some posts of mine here on this forum have angered some who think I am perpetually down or negative on the Ducks. I'm am sorry that some may think this because I am not; nor do I think Oregon is in 'total collapse or disarray'. Going thru a difficult time right now? Certainly. But this team has a bright future ahead, with still a lot to play for as they close out a rather remarkable 1st season under a bright young head coach. In the future if some of you think I have stepped over the line or said something unbecoming of the forum, I'd like to hear from you to see if maybe a misunderstanding can be rectified. I am and will always be a loyal Duck fan, as I have been for perhaps more years than some you the people here have been alive. Nothing for me has ever changed since I first became a fan at the age of less than 10 years old and that's more years ago than I care to remember. Call me out if I anger you. Don't complain to Charles or one of the Moderators, they have enough on their hands keeping tabs on all the posts on the forum. Let us see if we can work things out together. There isn't anyone on this forum I do not respect. Enuf said.

  10. I think so too. If mistakes were made (from our perspective) then they were probably due to youth and inexperience. That will improve for both Dillingham and Lanning as they mature. Another reason why I wish Kenny had become a HC with a team in another conference.
  11. It's always possible I suppose but it seems unlikely to me. What seems more possible is that he may have been involved in a furious round of negotiating during the 2nd Half with ASU (over the phone and text messaging) and deferred play calling to someone else while he attended to business. If that ever proves true it would probably change the way I feel about him forever. It would be him abandoning his team and players at a terrible time. This is why I don't think it's true. This is why I hope it isn't true.
  12. Sorry to see him leave. This one hurts. However, he gave O some fine moments and I wish him well wherever he winds up. Hopefully, (like I've said with others before him) not to another Pac-12 team.
  13. You're right, of course. And when/if he returns to his role as an O.C. it will be for more $ than he was earning at Oregon. Plus, there's always the chance he gets a gig at the next level as an O.C. if he manages to produce some good NFL prospects who get drafted.
  14. I'll be attending a Christmas party for the company I worked for before retiring this coming Saturday. They're mostly all Beavers (Engineering firm) including all the Partners of the firm. I'm half tempted to go dressed in my Duck regalia but my wife says no, no, no. She's right, of course. Not good form. But I'm not ashamed of the team even if they did have that unfortunate loss to the Beavers. I hope no one here on the forum is either. They'll revenge this loss, sooner probably, rather than later.
  15. But wasn't that why Lanning was hired in the 1st place? It was odd that a person named H.C. based primarily on his defensive coaching credits winds up coaching a team known primarily as an Offensive powerhouse but with a weak defense. I guess we just need to give him more time to build the defense. Hopefully not at the expense of the offensive firepower O has now.
  16. Is there really such a bowl as the 'Jimmy Kimmel' bowl? I never knew there was a bowl named for a person before. Weird. Isn't he a comedian or something?
  17. In the event readers here may think I am dumping on the Ducks, rest assured I am not. I may be disappointed with the way some things turn out, like the game last Saturday, but I am, and always will be, a loyal Duck fan.
  18. Whomever O hires, it had better be quick to stop this hemorrhaging of talent and recruits, something I'm sure Mullins and Co. are well aware of. What a bummer to have to go thru this all over again ...
  19. That would be an interesting matchup.
  20. Ah ... the 'ol dreaded Transfer Portal. Well, with coaches breaking contracts and leaving after only 12 games why not players too? Or maybe this is a chicken & egg thing - which came first, the coaches bolting or the players? I'm sure someone's done the research but it matters little. Noting is solid and permanent in this slowly evolving mess of the CFB world. Makes me wonder how much longer or in what form the present system will settle, if ever? I'm sad because I'm witnessing what appears to be the unraveling of my favorite sport; the last one I still have a enough interest in to attend in-person events. Except whenever O plays in Reser.
  21. Yeah, I know what you mean. Though I don't share the sentiments some of my friends are thinking Dilly might have told the team he was leaving for ASU during Halftime. I think that pretty unlikely - but I do understand why they might be thinking that given how things fell apart in the 4th qtr. Something happened but then so did something in the 2016 Alamo Bowl when an even worse collapse occurred. Two ugly stains on Oregon's shinning program.
  22. In retrospect, pre-mature or not, Dillingham's jump to ASU makes it three-in-a-row: Taggert to his "dream-job at FSU, Mario to his at Miami and now Dillingham to perhaps his, (at least his alma mater and home state) ASU. There must be a college out there somewhere, where a brilliant and talented Offensive mind is coaching in some small, out-of-the-way, poducnk college whom a move to Oregon would be a move waaaaaaay up the football ladder. So far that they'd never want to go back to that little college again. Like Chip Kelly who came from New Hampshire, (his alma mater) to Oregon. It took the NFL team Philadelphia Eagles to lure him away. And at least we had him for more than one year (5 years, to be exact). Get out the check book Oregon and find us another football genius out in the back 40 somewhere and buy him!
  23. The one hire I'm waiting for is the hire for Oregon's new O.C. Preferably someone that other coaches around the country whisper "oh-oh" under their collective breaths. I have NO idea whom that would be but he's out there, somewhere, waiting for a call.
  24. Going 7-23 just amazes me. I haven't been following UNLV or any teams in that conference, per se, but this was terrible. How could such a seemingly bright football mind as Arroyo go so off the tracks unless it's a good illustration of how some coaches are good at certain positions but NOT as a Head Coach which, in truth, is more like a Manager in Pro Baseball. He'll probably land on his feet somewhere but not as a H.C.
  25. I can't think of another article by Canzano that I've read that was as interesting but totally meaningless than this one. It means absolutely nothing, imo, to anything of relevance except to illustrate how crazily expensive it's getting (and out of hand) to hire and then to try and keep good head coaches nowadays. It's getting insane!
