Canzano: Hats off to Utah -- Utes Beat USC for Pac-12 title
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Article or no, it was a smile I found on my face when I read the final score of this game. That, and a long sigh for what might have been had Oregon not had their 'powder-room collapse' at Reser. I feel very confident that even with O's defense woes they could have (would have) beaten USC as well. -
End of Season Stats/Rankings/Accomplishments/Etc.
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm sorry to ask but what exactly is this list showing us? Is it how each team performed as compared to their expectations, or something? -
Oh, I'm pretty sure some math nerd could probably develop some sort of statistical analysis's that could generate some algorithms that could take all those eventualities in stride and come up with something. But we may have to extend the play clock to 1 minute, 30 seconds.
-
Martin Malchow? I think you mean Marshall Malchow, O's Football Chief of Staff? If I remember correctly, he's even younger than Dilly and Lanning both. Some sort of 'player whiz' at assembling teams. But his last team assembly didn't fare so well as their recruiting number would suggest (A&M) who was rated #1 but had a very disappointing and dismal season. It happens. Yeah, I agree. Now's a good time for his talents to show up and see what he can do to fill some important slots that desperately need filling.
-
When schools and teams decide it's time for "math nerds" with all their algorithms and analytics to start calling the shots (plays) it'll be time to replace frail human bodies with stainless steel robots and machines. Imagine the sound of colliding bodies that'll generate!
-
And what abut the Beavers? They beat O, who beat Utah, who beat USC, who beat OSU. Ah ... you gotta love this stuff! Maybe the Pac-12, or what's left of it, ought to have their own playoff system for the right to play in the championship game!! (Just kidding around - this isn't BB).
-
I was wondering along the same lines. Will Dilly, a novice HC, try to micro-manage things, esp on offense, like Mario C tried?
-
Well, I guess he's got to get 'em from somewhere and as young as he is, he hasn't had a lot of experience working with assistants this good before, I would imagine. ASU needs all the help he can muster up. I just wish he'd go elsewhere and leave our coaches alone! With the possible exception of the one coach that comes to mind he didn't ask for. Tosh Lupoi. Even Dilly doesn't seem to want him. I wonder why?
-
I put the onus squarely on Tosh Lupoi in that his defense either didn't stress the rush or re-purposed players in other roles within the scheme. I think that's what 1Ducker1 meant by his question and hence, my answer. I was left screaming (not literally) at the screen or field: "Rush the passer!' on a lot of occasions this season - mostly to no avail. It's how Penix picked O apart.

Transfer Portal: A Listing of Ducks Who Have Entered

I know. It didn't appear like it. Tosh L's defensive schemes, maybe. Also maybe why he's transferring?

Five Star QB Dante Moore Locked In With Oregon
Mic replied to The Kamikaze Kid's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Not to sound pessimistic but I'll believe he's a Duck when we see him on campus, in Duck gear, enrolled in the University. Everything nowadays is 'fluid' to use the term so popular these days in the media. Fluid. -
The bleeding continues. But then, I suppose every team in America is experiencing the same thing, save Georgia & TCU, maybe.

I'm no one to know how Bo's professional prospects shake out but I'd think just about any NFL team would like to have a QB like him on staff if only for the young man's football knowledge, competitive spirit and sheer grit & determination. Does he ever get a starting job off the bat? Probably not, but few college QB's do. Could he rescue a team from total disaster should their starter go down suddenly, Yeah, I could see that. And if there's one thing pro teams don't have enough of is decent QB' backups who can at least keep their team 'in it' if their starter gets hurt. Tom Brady, (just to name one everyone knows) was no QB wonderkind either when he went pro. Neither was Joe Montana. Dittos for Terry Bradshaw. Three of the best pro-QB's all-time.
-
It (any of his playing) certainly wasn't an auspicious audition, I grant you that. However, if TT stays on the roster for next year I'd be in favor of starting him in one of our "safest" non-conference games, the one O's most likely to win, and just let the chips fall where they may. If he bombs out, replace him in the 2nd or 3rd qtr. and retrieve the win if possible. Football is a game of risks and maybe Oregon needs to take this risk to determine his 'worth' once and for all. IMO, this situation can't continue the way it's going.
-
Seriously, who can blame him? This QB situation we have at Oregon is just ... bizarre.
-
So, you still feel Moore will honor his commitment; I hope you're correct. Perhaps that's part of Butterfield's reason for transferring, that and/or Bo's perhaps staying for one more go-round. Here I wish I could share your optimism but I see little reason why Bo would want to put off his bid to go pro. As far as looking for another transfer: at what point does Oregon finally give TT his 'shot' at starting? How long can this situation go on?

Offering Perspective on a Difficult Loss
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is a good a post as I've read on this forum this year, Drex. Thank you. Another reason why I hope the Rose Bowl survives it's prematurely predicted demise. (a little alliteration there). You've made my day, sir. -
Rose Bowl Leftout of the CFP--Update: Finally Signed With CFB Playoff
Mic replied to Tandaian's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Despite all the problems offered by an old, decrepit stadium, the Rose Bowl, in my own opinion, should be in the CFP Playoff system and NY6 bowl games. It's the "grand-daddy" of them all as the old announcer used to say, because ... it is. It's also linked to one of the nation's largest and most lucrative markets, the West Coast, particularly Southern California. But a new stadium would be nice. No, a must, I think. Fix the stadium issues, get the details ironed out and make it happen or watch the nation's oldest Bowl game disappear into oblivion. That'd be sad for football, imo. Keith Jackson, R.I.P. -
Not a bad choice. But at 57 he'd be 20 years Lanning's senior and that's essentially a whole generation of difference. He'd certainly be loyal - if he still wants to live the rest of his career in Eugene, Personally, I like the idea of a younger mind with new perspectives and who can relate to the players easier.
