Bo Nix, all by himself, must have juiced that number some. How many snaps do you think he played this year? I wouldn't have a clue of a guess but if one adds all the offensive snaps O played, subtract about ... ummm ... 25 or so, + -, might be close. And that's a lot!

Portal Losses "Not Surprising," and Encouraged
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
For me the report of total snaps played (even when accounting for injuries) was a surprise. I guess it shows us how stocked and loaded Oregon was at many of those positions. O just needs to get even better players, if possible, at all the positions to move to that next elusive level of the CFP field, playoff expansion or not. The news on the recruiting side is pretty encouraging so far. -
Good morning Charles. The number seems improbably high to me as well but I got these numbers from this source: Coach J.R. Sandlin's Twitter Post - from a post on this forum by McDuck, on Thursday, Nov. 29th, (post #11) under the topic "Transfer Portal: A Listing of Ducks Who Have Entered". I also commented later on how this seemed an amazing number given the fact that there are only 132 schools (as I remember) in the CFP system. Even adding the lower division schools, that's still a lot of players. The post by Coach Sandlin also listed the percentage of players who actually "placed" which is less than 40%- but still a very high number.

Expect the Holiday Bowl to Be a THRILLER
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I know our household will be watching the bowl game, even if some big names will sit it out. It's still nice to see Oregon on TV and playing in December. Besides, the uniform clash with NC will be interesting. This will be the wife's chief interest. -
One was left with the feeling neither he nor Kenny D ever really unpacked all their suit cases or moving boxes.

Stein's hire certainly does open the possibility of Card's transfer just as Dillingham's hire probably influenced Bo's transfer. But if Bo remains at O for another year, that of course could rule out any transfer by Card to Oregon. He has declared for the Portal. However, Card is a redshirt Sophomore this year with two more years of eligibility so, who knows? Oregon could certainly do worse than to have Card at QB.
-
Oh, I'm sure he will and does. Oregon seems to be a school a lot of talented players want to be a part of. Besides, it's not like all the other schools out there aren't struggling with roster changes and transfers, if the research by McDuck is correct. Over 8200 players entered the Portal last season, a staggering number if you think about it. Oregon could end up benefitting greatly from the Portal as they did with Bo Nix.

Oregon Names UTSA's Will Stein as Offensive Coordinator
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I like the idea of at least a half dozen deep shots per game, if the O-line can stand up and the receivers can catch deep passes. Imagine how that would open up the middle of the field for the screens and the RB's. Maybe Donte Thornton should reconsider his imminent transfer. -
I'll admit I know next to nothing about Hudson Card, not having even watched Texas play this year. (I do remember his name being bandied about after that near win over Alabama, tho.) So, you and the plotting squirrels are of a mind that Card would be a good bet and choice to do what Nix did to resurrect his career? I thought Texas was on the upswing and getting better. Nix is not skipping the bowl game O is in so speculation still surrounds his future plans. Perhaps Card is awaiting Bo's announcement, or he's not interested in transferring, or he is. Hmmmm.

Transfer Portal: A Listing of Ducks Who Have Entered
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
An easy trend to see: '19-20: 4700 to TP, in '20-21 it was 6250 and in '21-22 it was 8200. (Last year, about 40% placed. ) This means we can possibly expect almost 10,000 players to enter the portal? Holy Cow! There are only 132 CFP teams (if I have my numbers right?) so there must be a heck of a lot of lower Division teams losing a lot of players to the Portal. Talk about fluid. -
Not to Get Weird on You Pennsylvania Duck, But...
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My dear old mom wouldn't call that "style". She used to say I lacked 'style' when I went off the reservation while she was around to hear me. It wasn't often, I can tell you that! -
Some Scheme Influence Background On New OC Will Stein

Nice research, DNC. Just hope he works out and O can keep him on staff longer than one or to years. -
Oregon Names UTSA's Will Stein as Offensive Coordinator
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
More research, another article just popped up to say that Scott Scatterfield has left Louisville and is going to Cincinnati as their new HC. So, the HC job at Louisville IS open, now. Maybe Stein missed the boat and wasn't asked by Louisville so he may be available for Oregon - for at least one year. -

A little research here: and yeah, Scott Scatterfield, HC at Louisville, is on a seat getting hotter at Louisville. No news yet about any firing but this is the school our new Offensive Coordinator Will Stein played QB for. Don't tell me we've just hired another OC with a possible "dream job" opening up soon? The latest I could find about Scatterfield's job security was that he was listed in the "Win, of Else" category before the Pitt game. -

Former Louisville QB, Stein may have his ultimate sights set on a HC job there. How secure is the Louisville HC? That ought to be some interesting research. Is he on a seat getting warmer and thereby possibly opening up a job at Louisville in '24? -
A serious look at whom? Deion? Certainly not willie-t?
-
I agree, he never seemed to live up to the billing he received. However, I do hope that if he leaves thru the Portal he leave the Conference as well. No more transfers like Dye's to USC and Dillingham to ASU. I'd just as soon see these ex-Ducks be ex-Pac-12er's as well.
-
I say the beach volleyball-looking guy (Chris Hummer) on the show above is guessing out of his hat on this one. Yeah, he might be right, but it seems unlikely to me. Meanwhile, I'm ore interested in who this new hire is for Dillingham's job. Will Stein?
-
So, I'm inferring from the above post that Deion Sanders took the job at Colorado? And to shore up his ... uh ... well, something, he's bringing on Willie T? Oh, Good Lord. This is a fun game, all right. It ought to be very interesting to see how the Buffalos fare in the conference for the next three years which is about the longest the school will likely give Sanders (I expect) to turn things around. Maybe Willie's there to share some 'Oregon Secrets'. lol

Canzano: Hats off to Utah -- Utes Beat USC for Pac-12 title
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
In that shot of the two coaches together one (Whittingham) looks like the ham-sandwich, hard hat, blue collar guy who knows how to get things done and Riley like the fresh-faced frat boy and former class president who everyone calls the wonder-kind of his sport. The lunch-pail guy just handed the frat boy a hard dose of reality. Football is tough business and not for show-n-tell or song and dance. Kudos to Utah. -
Bottom line: Let's just hope the game stays essentially as it is and the math nerds stay in the classroom or in the stands.

Canzano: Hats off to Utah -- Utes Beat USC for Pac-12 title
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Over the years, not always a big fan of Canzano but he does have some chops and occasionally writes some good zingers. Like these two when describing what happened in that 3rd Qtr last night when USC managed just one-yard on offense: Yeah, you gotta hand it to him, he nailed it.: USC moved three feet in 15 minutes, folks. Utah’s defense essentially turned Lincoln Riley’s offense into a slug. That makes USC's Caleb Williams (with the F_CK UTAH on his fingernails) 'King of Slugs'. Utah deserves all the credit they get for that win.
