How Far Does Miami Drop?
I hope they drop, but I'm still weary of the media infatuation with them, they might survive, saying that it was a hard fought win, and they can afford one. Stupid, but I never underestimate the power of east coast bias, and the desire to have Miami be a story.

VT and Miami
Yeah, but I never saw actual control by the receiver, I totally get the point of the call on the field, I just saw enough personally to go with the overturn, again I would be hopping mad if I was a Hokie fan. It's one of those where it can go either way, and you better believe the ACC room was telling the official to overturn it.

VT and Miami
I honestly didn't think he had control, looked like the ball moved as the player was landing, I never saw clear control. Honestly don't think VaTech got hosed, totally would think that if I was a Hokie, but I thought it was the right call unfortunately. Miami should go down like 2 spots though, that was not impressive at all.

Are You Feeling Snookered by the B1G Yet?
It is what it is. It was a no-brainer to leave for the B1G, we would not have survived long term as a top 15 program with a TV contract centered around AppleTV, we might have been fine for a couple years, but it would have a been downward trend after that I think. We probably are going to get screwed at times with some time slots, but I'll take that over having all our games on streaming where nobody other than our fans watch us. The goal is a national championship, I'll take that even if it means another night game or two each season. I do understand if others disagree, just the way I look at it I guess.

QUAAACK, Oregon Flips OT Douglas Utu From Tennesse
This is such a huge pickup. I think the O-line is the thing that has had me worried the most about the upcoming seasons. It is so important to get the big uglies up front in order to dominate the line of scrimmage. Probably has as much to do with the fact that I haven't seen many of the youngsters play since we haven't had much garbage time.

UCLA Has Seen Better Days
Yeah, that's what I thought, I was being really generous with that 3%, and you are right SoFi would be much better. Better stadium experience for fans, closer for fans/students/heck even media. The only problem I would see is that since both Chargers and Rams play there it might be hard to make that place feel like it's their home stadium, then again despite being the only team that plays in the Rose Bowl that doesn't even feel like UCLA's home stadium.

UCLA Has Seen Better Days
They would never in a million years do this due to a shortfall of money in the athletic department, but UCLA needs to build a new stadium closer to campus where they aren't embarrassing themselves with a 1/4 filled Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is of course iconic, but it's terrible place to watch football, it's old, the facilities aren't up to standard, it's way too far away from campus so you don't get the student support. If they could, a 50,000 seat stadium closer to the campus or even on-campus would really improve things for that program I think. Again, I think there is about 3% chance of this happening in the next 20 years, but it is badly needed I think for them.

Vote for Shout!
We won't win, and really we shouldn't since Shout! is very young in terms of being a tradition, though I do think it's a very good tradition that doesn't feel as forced as some of the other "traditions" that have Oregon have tried to create. The biggest being that kind of stupid idea of the posts that have the score on them that are dotted around the back of the north side of the stadium. I remember when they did those they talked about having students take the posts after each win and placing it in the ground, just seemed so forced to me. Shout! on the other hand is fun, engaging, and most of all makes sense when it comes to the history of the school. Sucks that we didn't win that national title game when it was going to air as a Nike commercial if we we won, would have been an all-time video, still is for us as fans though.

Was QB Dillon Gabriel "Run Out of Oklahoma"?
I don't think it was necessarily that he was run out of Oklahoma, more that he wasn't courted to stay. I think probably what happened is that he saw an opportunity to play at Oregon, the school that his idol played for, closer to his home, and probably in a better position to play for a national title. Oklahoma on the other hand was comfortable with Arnold thinking that he had the potential to be a young star. It obviously hasn't worked out with Arnold, but I don't think they told Gabriel that they wanted him to transfer. It just worked out well for both teams, obviously Oregon is happier of the two now, but I don't the Sooners were that worried at the start of the season.

Crap. Bedford Hurt AGAIN in Practice...
This is a big loss, Strother did well during the last game, and I think he's capable, but it's quite clear that the coaches expected Bedford to be the starter. Without him or Iuli, we're one injury away from disaster as Pickard is just simply not even an average football player which was evident in the first two games, if we have to play Pickard against tOSU we'll be absolutely destroyed I think, too slow, too weak. Hope I'm wrong, hope the nerves are gone, hope the line can compensate, but it doesn't look good. Simply no depth in the line right now without those two (Bedford and Iuli).

Teams Remaining on Oregon's 2024 Schedule
I think we should go 11-1 if we can stay healthy on the O-line and it develops a bit more and gets the depth expected with the return of Bedford and Iuli. 12-0 is a possibility, 10-2 would be a little disappointing and probably means we don't have a significant win on the schedule. 9-3 is still a completely inexcusable result unless we have massive injury issues. I think tOSU is a better team right now, but the game is at Autzen, and we have the better QB. Michigan is such a weird game I think. It's a team that has a winning mentality, they might be finding their identity now, but the lack of a competent QB is startling bad. That defense though if healthy is good enough to beat anyone I think on their day. Games that give me a little pause are Illinois and Wisconsin, but really I don't see a lot out there that we shouldn't be able to handle. Indiana and Nebraska would frighten me a ton if we had to go on the road to them, but we miss them, and Illinois' ceiling is not quite where I would be that concern since it's at home. Wisconsin I'll without judgement until we see the backup play a bit, UCLA we should smash, Purdue......hahahahahahahaha! Maryland doesn't have Tua's brother anymore and it's at home, lastly UW I think it's going to get smashed by us considering the last two years and they are significantly worse.

Oregon Basketball Four Road Trips to Midwest
I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of teams fill up the Rose Bowl and the Coliseum, gives a lot of those midwesterners an excuse to go out to L.A, especially later with the weather, it wouldn't hurt that a lot of them might not have ever been to the Rose Bowl while fantasizing about the day their team was there.

Oregon Basketball Four Road Trips to Midwest
Gosh that looks like a more appealing home schedule! Purdue, Indiana, UCLA, Maryland, and Illinois is so much more appealing than playing Colorado, Cal, ASU, and others. Other than the odd UCLA or Arizona there just weren't that many appealing games in the past 10 years since the Pac-12 went to crap in basketball.

New AP Poll - Ducks Stay at No. 9 - Kind of A Crime!
We should not be worried at all, if we deserve to be in the playoffs we’ll be in the playoffs, if we deserve to have a bye I think we’ll get it. I don’t think there will be much bias, USC is the only team where I think you could make an argument where they are getting screwed, even then I don’t think LSU is much better than 7th in the SEC

New AP Poll - Ducks Stay at No. 9 - Kind of A Crime!
No problems at all with where we are Don’t like it? Nobody else has as pathetic a showing as Idaho. We barely deserve to be top 10 You have to show up every game. If we want to move back up, we should demolish UCLA and MSU by 40+

So...How About THAT Get-Well Game?
Offensive gets a A+, just a beautiful display of an offensive in synch and motivated to finish every play. I don't think the Beavers defense is worth much, but it doesn't matter, they played pretty flawless ball, no costly penalties, no bad snaps, no miscommunication on pass protect, really really encouraging to see, plus we got to see some backups finally get some time on the field which is much needed. Defense I would give a B. The first half is just not acceptable, it wasn't an F or a D, but I don't think you higher than a C for that effort, probably a C-. I get OSU has more talent on that side of the ball, but you can't be that sloppy with tackling and not containing the QB. Second half was much better (A-), really shows how much of a difference it is for the team if they are able to get ahead and force the other team to become pass first. Need to get more turnovers!

GameDay Thread for Civil War: Join Us!
Love the offense in this game, playing with purpose, control, timing, we could be so scary if the O-line can be just above average
-
GameDay Thread for Civil War: Join Us!
Nice start, good tackle on 3rd down Now go get a touchdown!
-
GameDay Thread for Civil War: Join Us!
Fine with that, just a bad time to finally be off target, but they kept the momentum going with the offense amazing how much better it is with Strother in instead of Pickard. The Beavs D-line though might simply be a lot worse than Boise

GameDay Thread for Civil War: Join Us!
The thing is, this really shouldn't be a tough game, it's a rivalry game yes, it's on the road, and I actually think Bray is going to be a good coach, but we have a MASSIVE talent advantage, and we are consistently not playing up to what the talent should be. We have a roster that is now almost entirely 4/5 star guys, but they don't play like it consistently, that's a huge problem, a lot of that is on coaching not getting these guys in the right mindset to dominate and finish every single play. We're great at times, but then we lose containment, we look to deliver a big hit instead of wrapping up, we don't do the fundamentals with intensity, and it shows through in our inability to finish drives. Offense looks great though, so there's the positive, but this game should be over, or at least over after we score on the opening drive of the second half.

GameDay Thread for Civil War: Join Us!
Defense again disappointing, not wrapping up, not finishing plays, not containing the qb, bad bad defense It is the same old, same old, hype that defense will take the next step and not performing

Sports Psychology Extrapolates a LOSS for the Ducks vs. the Beavers
I think you're right in many ways. It does take all of the things that you mention, I just think it's just not entirely a cohesion thing, there are players just simply not winning their battles, not being tough enough, and not being ready to play despite not being new to the program. The cohesion bit is certainly a part of it though. All the criticism they are getting is justified, for the most part I think the media (national and local) have been pretty kind to them. They can still be a great team, but they HAVE to start showing it, the second half of the BSU game was a start actually other than the botched snap. We're probably on the same page though.

Sports Psychology Extrapolates a LOSS for the Ducks vs. the Beavers
Totally see what you are saying, and I might be totally misunderstanding the question with the "Pschologically speaking" at the front of that question, and if so my apologies! With that said... I think the counter to that is the QB coming in is going to become the next QB to start the most games ever in college football, and has been one of the most successful QBs in college football for the last 4 years. If he isn't ready to come in and be a leader, then I don't understand how you do as well as he has at two stops. WRs returned their #1B, the #3, plus the addition of a former 5 star WR prospect who was a SEC All-Freshman Team, The Athletic Freshman All-America, ESPN Freshman All-American, and a FWAA Freshman All-America. Oregon returned a rusher who gained 750+ yards in a backup role, plus they had a RB who was the #2 before he was injured last year. Finally the O-line supposedly has 2 first round draft picks at tackle, a stout guard, and finally a center who was a 247Sports True Freshman All-America last year and looked great in the bowl game, you had 4 of your top 6 offensive lineman coming back, that's plenty of experience. It was entirely fair to say that Oregon should be a team some in the national media would predict to win the national title.

Sports Psychology Extrapolates a LOSS for the Ducks vs. the Beavers
I remember many times where Saban was screaming at a player who made a mistake on the sideline, maybe not Brian Kelly or Bo Pelini like, but he could absolutely rip into his players. I think coaches need to within reason rip into their players, it shouldn't be constant, it should be constructive, and it shouldn't be something where players are scared to play for the coach, but the standard has to be upheld, and sometimes that means ripping into those who aren't meeting that standard.
