Let’s Do It: GameDay Thread vs. Washington!
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's such an interesting game with the way that you have one team who is so pass reliant versus such a balanced offense. One thing to consider is that we've had quite a few plays more than Washington, might be seeing attrition in the trenches. Think Stein has two very good drives in a row now with the play calling. -

Wonder is Bridges is just a better matchup, bigger, able to matchup the size of Odunze. -

I'm trying not to get too upset, but man Lanning has to improve as an in-game coach. -

Lanning making another huge mistake, this potential loss is on him for that call, we still be down a score if he just kicks the damn FG -

That's the same sort of decision that cost them last year, just a horrible call. Not even a good play call. -

Yeah, I just don't think you can blitz him, his receivers are too good, and he's just so quick with his decision making. -

Brandon Dorlus- He Was at Practice Today

We're pretty deep at that position, but one of our huge advantages is that depth and being able to rotate guys in and out. Can't afford to lose our best pass rusher when we go up against perhaps the best QB we'll see especially since Penix is more stationary than Williams, important to move him off his spot more so than Williams I feel like. -
Let's Discuss: Today's Other Games of Interest! (Spoilers)
spartan2785 replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's one thing to do it once as a coach, it's quite another to not learn from such an awful decision, I can't even begin to understand how you can't make the decision to kneel the ball. There are plenty of times you can understand a coach taking a radical decision as being aggressive (going for it on 4th down, going for two, all out blitz), this though is none of that, and if it's about developing a "toughness" culture, than that is just egotistic and self-destructive to the extreme. -

I see Justin Flowe is still an idiot who can't control himself from hitting the QB late. Absolutely horrendous decision, basically gifted USC a TD. -
I don't really think we don't get any love, I mean I think it's just a week where our game was pretty ho hum, we got a good amount of positive pub last week, today we just had an article that talked about us having the best SP+ score in the Pac-12, if you look at our individual stats it's understandable that the focus would be on Penix, Williams, and Sanders since everything runs through them. We'll start to get more of a focus if we beat UW up on Montlake. This year is a bit different than previous years, since the Pac-12 is viewed as an extremely strong conference, we'll get the credit we deserve if we churn out the results that demand it.

Tough, I wonder if he'll request another year due to injury and we'll see him at Autzen next year. -
Dillingham is Snakebit This Season!
spartan2785 replied to kirklandduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I just feel like this whole situation was pretty obvious from the start, I know he's from Phoenix, I know he had deep connections to ASU, but it always seemed like a bad idea to jump into the realm of head coaching at that place. Seems like he could have stayed at Oregon for another year or two and then have a much bigger selection of jobs. -
Football Schedules for Big 10 and Big 12 Next Year?
spartan2785 replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I would honestly think the football schedules will be a lot easier to do compared to the other sports where you're talking about games throughout the week, I'm sure they are working on it all, starting of course with the fall sports. I wouldn't be surprised to see the schedules put out until late spring for football, maybe even longer for the other sports. -
I actually don't think it was Deion trying to do something for his own ego, it's that they are very thin when it comes to elite players and he was using Hunter in order to win games, you could make an argument that they lose against TCU if he doesn't play so much offense in that game. If he had more depth I think he would have used Hunter more sparingly on offense.

There is a part of me that thinks this was bound to happen with him playing so many snaps. It was bad late hit, but you have to think that at some point a player is going to get injured if they are playing over a 120 snaps per game. It's same with any sport, you can only play so much before your body is going to take a blow or simply break down, same thing has occurred for Ohtani, and while he is amazing it's not surprising that he has also broken down over time.

That's why the prevent defense doesn't work, never put pressure on Sanders which they had done all night, terrible play calls by the CSU DC
-
They sure don't look like they have a QB, probably the worst Bama team I've seen since Saban has been there. Never thought I would see them struggle like this against a team that was 2-10 last year in the AAC.

Oregon vs. Texas Tech: Never-in-Doubt!
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
They way we looked we'll lose at least 4 games, not saying we will, but if we don't make huge improvements in our discipline, our line play, and our ability to contain the QB it will be a long season. I do think we got Tech's best shot, I don't think they will play much better, Shough played about like we though he would, he can run it, he can fling it, but he can also be bad with his ball protection. Nix wasn't at his best, but he showed his leadership again, so I was glad to see him succeed on the road in a tough environment. Wasn't impressed with Stein's play calling, quite a few rushing plays that didn't make a lot of sense to me. Did think we had some nice pressure packages, did a better job disguising our rushes at crucial times, our coverage was up and down, had a quite a few times it looked like Shough didn't have much to go to, but we also gave up some big plays, so a mixed bag. In the end it's a survive and advance game, -

Hype, always hype about the defense, and the defense still is mediocre at best, maybe get a DC who can coach not just recruit. -

O-line is pathetic right now, just getting pushed around out there, penalties, have to say it looks like a downgrade there. -
