Just think how INSANE this would be a decade ago losing two 4 star recruits to transfer because they're not in the two deep.

After two-three years....possible.  But after only a season?  Two of them a decade ago?

Lanning has built such depth already?  Incredible...

My Duck-Buddies....it is going to happen, as those who are not progressing or

have great chances to break the two-deep will transfer out. Recruit five-deep,

and find out who is best, and the rest will ultimately transfer.

Well that's disappointing, especially when a good number of starters are probably leaving after this season.  Maybe his sheer size is getting in the way of out-competing others in the oline group?  I mean there's such a thing as *too* big...

Well, if the mobility to stop the edge rushers is not there....

But we don't know for sure, as one rumor is that he is homesick.

That happens to some--but we move forward.

Sometimes when a guy that big comes in the S&C coaches will try to rebuild their bodies. This typically requires a lot of hard work from the player because there is a lot of dieting to go along with the conditioning. The player has to be extremely disciplined in order to make the transformation. I’m not saying this was the case, but it’s possible.

He ain’t gone till he’s gone. If Dan wants him back, he’ll find a way.

Homesickness is real and due to the large distances and significant climate differences for such a large number of Duck recruits from their homes relative to other things it is a disadvantage this program has to lose more good recruits than other programs all else being equal.

At least with DL as well as the portal, all else is not equal, but it does make it harder on the coaches to have to overcome the disadvantage.

I always wish the best for the guys out of high school that commit to the Ducks. I guess they will chase their football dreams elsewhere. I do read the articles that tell how they fared on other teams.

From what I can tell, most players that transfer out from the Ducks are looking for places where they can play. Which is perfectly fine.

The portal has been a big factor for the Ducks securing experienced talent. Since the pendulum swings both ways, I can’t complain.

I hope the guys leaving are getting decent advice. There is no guaranty another program will offer them; especially, a champion contending program.

Spot on Charles. You build a deep roster and guys will portal out. Dan and Division Street will fill positions of need from the portal.

It was so great watching the Big Ten Network today reporting that OBD had moved up to the top recruiting spot in the conference.

Dan is winning The Battle of the Os. 😍 I wonder if Riley and Day plan to meet in the same bar? 😁

Get used to reasonably sizable portal losses in the future. In fact, many such losses will be encouraged by the coaching staff after determining that the likelihood of those players ever being meaningful two-deep contributors is slim (or none).

But it is true that some players, infatuated with their high-school star rankings, do become disgruntled and feel that they have been overlooked. Georgia has lost a couple dozen such players over the past four years, including a current 10-game starter in the defensive backfield  who got beat out in week 10-11 and subsequently quit on his team to enter the portal in championship week.

I'm told that when first meeting with his incoming high school recruits, Kirby tells them that he cares not how many "stars" they were granted as prep players. He says here you are all 0-Stars and you will have to grind to even get onto the field as freshmen. Some embrace the grind; others never do and are usually gone by the end of year two.

Knowing Lanning's pedigree, I suspect he embraces a similar viewpoint and that he is shedding few tears over his portal losses.

Dan Lanning is fond of saying, "If you're good enough, you're old enough."

Not a surprise, as we have 10 Edge Rushers, and whoever is not playing--is encouraged to transfer to make way for the new recruits.  You never know who it will be, only that it WILL happen.  Sorry for the young man...

Oregon Ducks EDGE Emar’rion Winston announced that he intends to enter the transfer...

Sorry to see this as he had played well on the two deep. There is just so much talent at edge with more coming in that you can't blame the young man for wanting to go somewhere that he can be a starter.

Best of luck to him
