Jon Joseph Moderator No. 1 Share Posted June 1 (edited) HUH? This article pops up on Yardbarker on the first day of the June critical recruiting period. This is Sense-Less. Dan Lanning needs to get out of Oregon before it's too late WWW.YARDBARKER.COM Oregon’s head football coach, Dan Lanning, is one of the best and youngest coaches in the game. He is heading into his third season with the Ducks, but he should be counting his days in Eugene.. OK, there's Brain Dead and then there is Daniel Fisher (not Fischer,) straight out of Gridiron Heroes. Based on this effort, Gridiron Heroes should be renamed Gridiron Zeros. "No question Oregon is one of the most famous college brands." I guess Danny noted that Oregon was the 7th most-watched college football program in 2023, with over 4M folks tuning in on average for every game. But having played for a BCS and a Playoff title means the job at Oregon stinks, right? Dan is making $7M a year which increases to $8M a year in 2028. He should blow this off and leave for one of only three decent jobs in CFB. If you are not the head coach at multiple Playoff title winners Alabama, Clemson, or Georgia, you're in the wrong place, right? It's obvious Eugene has a problem because Chip Kelly left for more money and a place where he didn't have to recruit, Mark Helfrich was fired because he couldn't do the job, better to keep him on a finish sub-.500? Slick and Mari(o) left for dream jobs and more money than now disillusioned boosters would be willing to pay. How about the Slick return on investment at FSU? How about the U's return after paying the most money ever for a private school head coach? The B1G is tougher than last season's Pac-12. Oregon will be the 5th brand team in the B1G. Danny, get your Sierra together. I don't know about Gridiron Heroes preseason top 25, but I have not seen a preseason poll where Oregon finishes worse than second in the B1G and outside the 2024 playoff. And of course, coaching in the SEC at Bama gives one a much easier road to a title. By the way Danny, are you aware that Mrs. Lanning and Dan once lived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and it just may be that they prefer Eugene? You probably were not out of diapers so trust me when I tell you that between Bear Bryant and Saint Nick, Alabama kind of sucked. Danny, if you go off of your meds again and need help, please do not call 1-OBD-GET-HELP. Ditto for the jerks at Yardbarker who recycle this garage instead of taking it straight to the dump/ . Have a really nice day. Edited June 1 by Jon Joseph 3 5 2
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 2 Share Posted June 1 Wowsa. That is a hit-piece worthy of what a Beaver fan would write, but the problem is--it is a poorly researched, poorly reasoned, and a poorly written article. Quite few clumsy sentences, and if that writing was presented for FishDuck.com...I would have our wonderful volunteer editors fix it first. So, you should never coach at a school that has never won a 'Natty? Not a good job because previous coaches left because they could not make it a great destination? (BTW...just how did the last two coaches do who left?) No mention of how long Bellotti was here before--the writer was just looking for negative, which makes me wonder who his favorite team is? Must be a team we are competing against for some big recruits, and I think Jon nailed that intention. "Oregon was one of the biggest brands in the PAC-12. They might not even be a Top Five brand in the Big Ten. If things start rough for them this season, which could happen, the program could start to take a turn for the worse because upcoming recruits could see this and not want to join the team and go to a place like Ohio State and Michigan, where they know they will be able to win." Take a turn for the worse with THIS returning team? The beginning of B1G hate for Oregon? 1 2 1 1 Mr. FishDuck

Complete garbage written like it’s 1984, which means it was probably written by a B1G honk who thinks it’s 1984. I’d take an additional step, how has any HC (to date) that left ever done? A focus on Ohio State, that explains this garbage of an article. This trash is so ridiculous that it doesn’t even piss me off, it just makes me laugh. Agenda or no, as a sports writer Fisher should be ashamed to have his name associated with such drivel. 1
David Marsh No. 7 Share Posted June 1 On 6/1/2024 at 10:29 AM, Charles Fischer said: (BTW...just how did the last two coaches do who left?) Umm... How did ALL the coaches who left Oregon do in their post-Oregon careers? Brooks was unremarkable.... Kelly was fired from Philly and San Fran and left UCLA in a tenure that generated about a 50% win rate. Now he's an OC. Helfrich was fired and spent a year as an OC in the NFL and was fired... But that felt like a scapegoat firing but he hasn't dipped his toe into coaching since. Taggart... Taggart who? Cristobal... Doing the same thing in Miami he did here but with less success. As you said this is a hit piece. Oregon is a destination and the coaches who left all left for a dream job. Kelly for the NFL, Taggart for FSU and Cristobal for his alma mater of Miami. Lanning is building his program and building his loyalty to the institution. 1 1

Washington Waddler Moderator No. 10 Share Posted June 1 Not only is Fisher’s writing primarily focused on the Browns and Buckeyes, he was born in Cleveland. Provincialism among professional sports writers from the Midwest on east knows no limits. Added to the speculation regarding DG’s throwing arm, and the loss to Oregon at The Nagshoe clearly has them in a dither. What can you say? Seeds will be seedy. 1 1

Maybe he didn’t start being a real life big boy sports writer until just after we won in the shoe, so he missed that one? I do think they’re getting more than they bargained for in picking us up in what almost felt like an afterthought, and it’s starting to sink in with some of the fans. Our overall athletics resume for 23-24 has got to be at least top-3 in the new league, well at least for sports that can show up on ESPN. They’re starting to sound like USC to me, Trojans are still chapped about our new brotherhood. Edited June 1 by JabbaNoBargain 1
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 12 Share Posted June 1 Another example of how little they really know about Oregon...and they don't want to. Duckley Palace No. 22 Share Posted June 2 Notice nobody is saying a peep about Washington, USC, or UCLA. Most notably a writer focused on a team that's ranked as a conference and national title favorite. But the program Napoleon Buckeye chooses to focus on is the biggest challenge on their board. One they may have to play more than once, and one that continues to excel despite having coaching reigns last about the same time as this kids average courtship at Minecraft academy. 1

David Marsh No. 25 Share Posted June 2 The other big thing that I think Lanning is really motivated by at Oregon is being the first to bring a national championship to the school. If he becomes Bama's head coach he has to follow the all time greatest coach in Saban but at Oregon he gets to forge his own legacy and do something that the program has not done before. To date the best season in Duck history is still 2014. Heisman, Rose Bowl victory and National Championship appearance. Need to get that national championship and Lanning is forever the man who brought Oregon it's first football national championship home. 1

EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 27 Share Posted June 2 Ordinarily this below Journalism 101 level article wouldn't receive much attention on OBDF, but it is the off-season and we do need something to chuckle about. I would say that it was largely AI generated but I give AI more credit than what this word salad exhibits. It does illustrate the concern that Oregon's entry into the B1G has generated with the tOSU fanbase. This kind of unenlightened drivel comes when a biased writer (I use the term writer loosely) starts with the 'let's diss Oregon' headline and then superficially cherry-picks the facts they need to make other Columbus homers happy. Oregon has been living rent free in Trojenz's head for years and now it appears they are tunneling into Buckeye craniums as well. All the more reason to make Autzen on October 12 a bad place to be for them. 1
