  1. I’ve been a fan since Bob Berry was quarterback, my dad, myself, and my son graduated from Oregon, and my grandfather was on the Board of Regents at Oregon. I struggled to watch even the first half, then quit. It was an embarrassment to the school, the athletic department, the team and the players. There was nothing to be gained by playing this game, it hurt recruiting, it hurt our new coach. Numerous other teams found ways not to compete, we should have done the same. We also shouldn’t have allowed an assistant coach going to Miami to spend all this prep time with Oregon players creating a temptation to transfer. As much as I love Oregon football, there was nothing to be gained by this game. I sincerely hope this doesn’t damage our new coaches effort moving forward.
  2. I’m in Dallas, Tx from Bend, Or for a month for the holidays. Likely snowing at home, but 83 and sunny tomorrow here, likely a day at the lake.
  3. Too bad, So sad !! Would be hilarious to see one or two of them as Ducks in the future.
  4. Our new coach is really getting with it. Don't know what will happen with the three we have, but I trust our new coach is doing everything he can to make a winning program. This is obviously a quarterback he knows well.
  5. Apparently, three of his best friends and high school teammates are playing at Arizona. Once the coaching staff fell apart, and there were only a couple days left before early signing, as well as a dead period, the move made some sense.
  6. In thinking this through the last couple days, I've tried to decide what attributes and deficiencies both coaches possess. MC is a PR guy, with the media, fans, players and especially recruits. But he's failed to follow through with what he's said. As the season progressed, I thought his game coaching was improving until the Stanford game, then it all went downhill. His head didn't appear to be in the game any longer. Players were dissatisfied, in game coaching was poor , he got defensive once a little booing started. His offensive approach was failing, and the wins he got seemed to be from raw talent alone. DL has no head coaching experience, but has been successful wherever he's been. He's highly driven, energetic, articulate, well liked by players and recruits, and has started to surround himself with successful, though inexperienced assistant that are like him. I get the impression he is so driven, he is going to just will this to work successfully. Due to MC's performance and apparent mental state at the end of the season, and DL's drive and desire to succeed, if given a little time, I think we'll see a significant improvement.
  7. It appears to me that Kiffin has matured some as a person and especially as a coach. He still says occasional stupid things, but he's put together a good staff, recruits well, relates well to his players, and is a good game day coach. I think he does a good job, and I would have been fine with him at Oregon if he thought before he spoke.
  8. I believe he still has the ability to return if he, the coach and school agree as he's entered the transfer portal, but has not committed to another school. While he may have ticked off many fans, he still is a good college receiver. He also appears to have developed a relationship with our new OC from FSU.
  9. At the time, Helfrich seemed like the logical choice. The program seemed on auto pilot, he ran the offense well, was liked by the players and fans, and had a great group of assistant coaches. Hindsite is easy, but there just wasn't a way to determine he would be a poor leader. Not every hire works out, yet after his first year things looked pretty good. His ultimate weak leadership and poor recruiting were his undoing.
  10. My concern with seasoned coordinators are they're set in their ways. They've been to numerous schools and may not be as adaptable as they were earlier. I wan't someone with high energy, incredible drive to succeed, relates well with the kids, high energy recruiter yet has just enough experience to do the job. If that person is only 31 with a couple years OC or DC experience, that's just fine with me.
  11. No, I am not still stewing. I don't know what you all wanted him to say. No matter what is said, or who says it, it's going to be coach speak until it's accomplished. He's been coach for maybe 48 hours. How could he have all the details of what he's going to do. He has players to evaluate, assistants and coordinators to hire, recruits to get signed. How could he possibly have all the answers you want at an introductory press conference? I, for one, and excited about his energy and drive. It's going to be fun.
  12. I think publishing this letter is pretty sleasy on Canzano's part, as well as who leaked it. It obviously does nothing to help promote our new coach, in fact, it tries to put a damper on it. I'm very glad it has worked out with Lanning instead of a mediocre Wilcox, who apparently didn't have the chops to face a fanbase with the expectations of Oregon. He's pretty safe where he is. Now if we can just get a coordinator or two in place, and get to work on recruits, things will work out fine. I'm excited to see what the future of Oregon football looks like.
  13. I don't worry about these young coaches at all. They're dealing with 18-21 year old kids, they relate well. These coaches wouldn't be where they are with top notch programs without having a lot of knowledge. Talking with Belotti would be a benefit to get lay of the land, but these young guys know what they're doing. I think they'll relate well to the players and will do a good job of motivating them. I'm excited, much more so than if they'd taken Wilcox. Sounds like Lanning is an overacheiver.
  14. I'm sure our AD had options with nyumerous head coaches, even a couple from the SEC. We weren't in the room during interviews, we don't have the options to evaluate potential coaches those making the decisions do. Would you be happy with head coaches Wilcox, Kelly, Harsin, or UW's choice? It may be a gamble, but it's a big name and a splash, and that's what present day Oregon tries to do. It will play well with recruits, it will intially play well with fans, and if he recruits well like Cristobal did, he can't be a worse game day coach. I think this is a gamble well worth taking. It will be fun to watch.
  15. Now that Mario is gone, I'm seeing more and more negativity about him as a head coach. I remember the end of Helfrich's time, and slick Willie's. I'm pretty sure we're way better off than we were then. If the covis year is eliminated, Mario has a pretty darn good record. How many teams would be unhappy with 10-12 wins each year? Yes, we lost to Stanford this year for various reasons, and were embarassed by Utah twice, but we also won 10 games. Up until the last game, I thought Mario's game coaching was SLOWLY improving. His recruiting was amazing. I , for one, think we are going to miss him and I think it will be some time before we're back to where we were this season. I also think the upcoming underwelming coaching hire is going to set us back from the trajectory we were on.
  16. Even some very short passes were thrown into the dirt or well behind the receiver.
  17. What coach allows their punter to kick straight away to one of the best returners in the country with 4 seconds left? I forgot, ours does.
  18. As much as Mario is a fighter and an awesome recruiter, he is still a coach that has a lot to learn. He smart, though stubborn, but he's headed in the right direction. He has our program consistently at the top of our league. In spite of all the past grumbling and complaining, I just don't see that Oregon can do any better. What coach could Oregon likely get that will improve Oregon more than he has/is.? I for one am willing to give him time to learn to be a better game coach, am glad he's here, and hope he stays a long time to build a potential dynasty.
  19. The offense is boring and predictable. Brown is obviously part of the problem, but a change toThompson or Butterfield may not solve the problem. While they're better passers, and possibly better decision makers, Mario has to allow them to do what they do best to get offensive improvement. I think we'd end up with the same conservative offense, just a different quarterback. Cristobal is pretty set on not doing anything out of his comfort zone. He kept the reins on Herbert pretty much, and likely Herbert was more talented than any of our present qbs.
  20. Wow, that is a mind numbing prediction, but probably pretty accurate. With losses to UCLA, Utah, maybe OSU, and possibly a Washington school, that's probably in the ball park. In a lower tier bowl game, I think we'll win it. It just doesn't seem like leaving is in Mario's personality, but with LSU and likely Miami openings, he certainly could.
  21. Our offense does need a spark. Most want Mario to give Ty a chance, but will anything change, will it open up the offense? As conservative as Mario is, I see him restricting Ty, pigeon holing into the conservative offense that Brown plays. Look what he did with Herbert. Justin was never able to play the game to his potential or strengths, and I'd guess Ty won't be able to either. At some point, Mario needs to develop his offense around the strength of his players, and let them do what they do best.
  22. Cristobal is not an innovator, as has been mentioned. He's conservative, and he plays the players that have the most experience and practice the best that week, unless he has no choice but to play a freshman. Other players may have much more talent, but unless he sees an overwelming improvement in using a given young player, he'll stick with experience and who he thinks practiced best. The problem is, the most talented and productive don't always practice the best. Some of these kids are "gamers", they rise to the occasion in games and under pressure. They may not truly buy into the practicing, but given game opportunities, they produce. Devon Williams is one who comes to mind. Any one of those 3 young quarterbacks could be a gamer that rises to the occasion and competition, but we'll never know as coach just won't take that chance.
  23. It's way more than just winning a game. The team has just become boring. i'm so tired of runs between the tackles and no imagination for an offense. I'm tired of a qurterback who is so limited. It's more than wins and losses, I want to see a team thats fun to watch, and ours is not.
  24. According to Duckwire, it sounds like Brown is going to continue as the starting quarterback. Either Cristobal is just incredibly stubburn, or the three freshman just aren't ready or aren't that good.
