  1. I vote Lanning's. "Win The Day" comes out smooth, and I agree winning every game is important. But I never really cared for the "Faceless Opponent". Opponents are not the same. A team is really good when they walk into a game on the road and the hostility feeds them energy, nothing sweeter than taking the enjoyment out of the crowd in a road game. So there are different level's and mood's for each game on the schedule. The bar needs to be set high and consistently reached. But, and Holtz knew it was malarkey when he'd say, "We'll have to play our best," when Notre Dame was playing some 1-6 team. You take care of business, but the team and the fans know that all opponents aren't the same.
  2. Not sure how it works here, but both should be first ballot selections.
  3. The most obvious player is there, so they got that right., but where are Terrell Brandon and Blair Rassmussen? I'd have both high in the honorable mention's list.
  4. The postseason was not kind, Oregon was in a parade of losing to lower seeded teams, Arizona, fresh off being swept by Oregon the week before, then ASU in the Pac-12, then they were No.2, Michigan No.3 in the Regional. They did beat SEMO before losing to No.1 Louisville. The lack of pitching we knew about. But was there a "This is too big for us" factor in play for the Ducks? The "small ball" from Was? The postseason swoon was disappointing but I dob't think the season was a failure by any means and the Ducks will build on it for next year.
  5. Very likely. The current owners now need to make sure it looks like they are selling the Trail Blazers, not that Phil just came in and grabbed them.
  6. Where there's a Will there's a way. Oregon Basketball: Ducks rise in rankings after Will Richardson return DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM With the news that Will Richardson is back for one more year, the Ducks are rising in the preseason polls.
  7. Will Oregon finally beat a lower seeded team in the post season?
  8. The only clock management issue I have with the NBA is that games don't get interesting to watch until there are 4:00 left in the 4th quarter.
  9. Insiders tell me that if Phil Knight really wants the Trail Blazers he’s likely to get them. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver played it straight on Thursday. He confirmed that the Trail Blazers will eventually have to be sold and the Paul G. Allen Trust liquidated. This flies in the face of the Blazers’ claims that they’re not for sale.
  10. Portland Trail Blazers ‘not for sale’ though Phil Knight did make offer, team says I am hoping that is an expected response by the current ownership..or the Blazers become even less interesting.
  11. Throw in a Mark Barwig, the most hated player in the conference!
  12. I think USC's is bit higher than that, Texas A & M?
  13. Not only will Utah have trouble recreating their own energy this season, last season's fire coincided with Oregon's meltdown that isn't going to be there either.
  14. Wojnarowski indicates that Knight being involved reaffirms the intent to keep the Trail Blazers in Portland. Just Do It, Jody!
  15. Oregon hasn't had this depth of talent since the Final Four team If all the parts can come together, a rotation of 8-9 without a drop in production, March could be Madness at Oregon. Dante has NBA tools, just needs to sharpen them up, Bittle had moments in every game that were outstanding. A re-energized Richardson, Guerrier and Barthelemy. Ware has the potential for the best freshman season in Oregon history.
  16. Would have loved to have played them 3 years ago. But this is great.
  17. Well Nigel, I think the Huskies will start 2-0, with home wins over Kent State and Portland State, so big ARF!!! Then the Spartans come in, a big test for The Bore before Stanford and the first conference game, so 4-0 is possible. The Huskies have a very fortuitous conference schedule. If somehow Portland could get a WNBA team and Sabrina, then Graves might consider it. But a move to the WNBA for a coach of a team as good as is Oregon is not the same as Altman to the NBA. Does anybody jhere care or even know that the WNBA season started a couple of weeks ago?
  18. Guerrier came back a couple of days ago, with Richardson back now the Ducks have a deep and talented team with experience. Will Richardson withdraws from 2022 NBA draft, returns to Oregon Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon Ducks guard Will Richardson will be back in Eugene for his fifth and final season after he opted to withdraw from the 2022...
  19. I like Georgia, I like Kirby. I wasn't just rooting for Georgia to beat Alabama I really wanted Georgia to win. I can't imagine another team handling the Lanning situation with as much class as Georgia has shown. Much more likely we'd be reading, "Oh Lanning wasn't any good, Kirby did everything, Glad he's gone, to OR Y Gun!!!. Instead, with the upcoming season starting with a game between Oregon and Georgia, the build up couldn't have been better.
  20. Great story. I remember back in the 70's I sent letters to my favorite players. This was way before the internet, so my letter to Willie Mays must have been addressed, Willie Mays San Francisco Giants San Francisco, California and similarly, to Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock. and others. While at the time it seemed like these Hall of Fame players were sitting in the locker room thrilled to know they were my favorite, more likely some secretary in an office was scribbling away.
  21. This is how I remember Byron as well; I think he has to be among the leaders in Oregon for fewest yards lost, he was always going forward.
  22. At least Todd is consistent, Conference Tournaments are a Crock! The late Lute Olson thought they were ridiculous, and since his Arizona Wildcats basketball teams were winning the conference regularly, he had good reason too. The coaches whose teams weren't as good had a more favorable opinion of them as their team could win and steal a bid. The worst claim by Todd was that "people are watching the Pac-12 tournament", unless they had the Pac-12 network they weren't, and I just watched Oregon's games.
  23. You know what, Charles, I can't think of a single reason for a conference tournament in any sport. The possibility of a team that struggled during the season getting hot, winning the tournament and getting the automatic bid makes no sense at all. Oregon was No.4, first they lost to 5, which isn't crazy, but Oregon just finished sweeping No.5 Arizona a week earlier, then Oregon lost to No.8 ASU. So yeah, why play the season? It's just as silly in basketball.
  24. If I actually bet on football games, I'd love Oregon +17-5. Ohio State didn't take Oregon seriously last season and had deficiencies defensively, I don't see either of these happening with Georgia this season. Georgia lost a lot of their historic defense to the NFL, but Oregon is filling some spaces too. Unless Georgia changes everything, Lanning will know what they're doing; every minute the game is close, Kirby's collar will get tighter. Maybe Lanning's emphasis on special teams will show up in game 1, maybe a turnover. 17 seems reasonable now, I expect it will be closer by kickoff.
