Idaho Issues: We Can’t Duck the Blocking Analysis…
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Not only without Watson and Lawrence, Clemson, along with Army, Navy and Air Force, are the only schools to not have one player come to them through the transfer portal. It isn't by accident, Dabo believes in recruiting and building his players. Coach K was reluctant to take a "One and Done" at Duke, until he realized he wanted to keep winning. -
Just finished College Game Day. Oregon vs Boise State was not even covered. Really? Early on, Herbie, who along with Desmond, picked Oregon to win the Championship, said that the worry about Oregon was an Overreaction but Saban did take Boise State as his Underdog of the week.

I posted earlier this week, with Eeyore sitting right next to me, that 19.5 was too much. Did you see the games that Oregon and Boise St. just played? Well, by the time it came down to picking a score for the game, I shoed Eeyore aside, and without hesitation, predicted Oregon 46-27. It's all about that .5.

Ruh-Roh! Ducks Locked Into "Little Brother" Forever?
30Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The move to the BIG got one big thing right. Oregon's hated rival is and always will be, Washington. Playing the Rodents is like playing your little brother, if you win, it's 'Mom, do I have to do this again?'. If you lose, little bro shouts and runs around. Now, Oregon State is the last of the tune-up games, Washington is the season ender, the finale, as it should be. -
I listened to Jerry & Jorgy on the radio, and it sounded like a great game!

I'll take Duke in the upset. For a long timr, Michigan was the BIG team that I could tolerate, at least the point of always wanting them to beat Thee Ohio State, but I'm afraid I expect Texas to win and cover. I'll take Iowa State to cover. Colorado, two Heisman contenders and first round picks, but they'll be lucky to get Bowl eligible, Nebraska to cover. I'll take Jonathan Smith's State and the points against Maryland.

Thanks, Jon! WEEK 2 - The Biggest B1G Games. P4 vs P4 and a B1G P4 vs P5 Huge Game in Autzen. All teams below are 1-0. AP Poll rankings including Others Receiving Votes used. Friday 9/6 NR Duke at NR Northwestern -2: Tune in to see NW's temporary 'high school stadium' on the shores of Lake Michigan. A beautiful setting. 6 PM FS1 (All times Pacific.) Saturday 9/7 3 Texas -7.5 at 19 Michigan: Can the Wolverines D stop a Longhorns O that looked unstoppable last week vs. Colorado State? Can the Michigan O that struggled vs. Fresno State put up enough points to win the game? This is this week's B1G Headline game and the SEC Headline game. 9 AM FOX. 29 Iowa State at 21 Iowa -3: The Cy-Hawk Game. Iowa's D as expected, was solid last Saturday, and OMG!, the Hawkeyes O put up 37 points in the 2nd half! Get down on the 35.5 Over? 12:30 CBS 19 Kansas -5.5 at NR Illinois: A healthy Illini QB, Luke Altmyer, threw for 2 TDs on Saturday, and the Illinois O with a healthy QB looked much improved and against a lesser opponent, the D played as it did in 2022, before losing five starters to the NFL. This will be the 1st sell-out for Illinois in the last 8 years. 4 PM FS1. NR Colorado at 31 Nebraska -7.5: Batman and Robin, Sheduer Sanders, and Travis Hunter, balled out in the victory over North Dakota State. And they had to as CU showed another suspect D and O line. Cornhuskers QB Frosh Dylan Riola played as advertised last Saturday. With a win, Nebraska should replace one of the B12 teams, and Clemson, at the bottom of the AP Poll. 4:30 PM NBC NR Michigan State at NR Maryland -9.5: An early conference opener for two B1G M+Ms. Sparty QB Aiden Chiles was shaky last week while the Terps QB, Billy Edwards, Jr. played an excellent game vs D2 Howard. 12:30 BTN 28 Boise State at Oregon -19.5: Has OBD ever had a bigger game vs. a G5 opponent? The Broncos, 3-0 vs. Oregon all time, come into Autzen fired up after putting up 56 points on Clay Helton's Georgia State. For Pride, the Playoff, and Puddles sake, the Ducks offense better show up to play a four-quarter game. And the D better be prepared to hold down one of the nation's best RBs Ashton Jeantry and true Frosh RB, Sire Gaines. For what the Ducks have to do to put the Idaho embarrassment behind them, read Charles's excellent article up today on the Forum. 7 PM Peacock BUST THE BRONCOS!

There aren't a lot of other very interesting games. It's going to be hard for ESPN to find 10-12 games to pick. Texas at Michigan Colorado at Nebraska

Idaho Issues: We Can’t Duck the Blocking Analysis…
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The video and analysis Charles gave us the article were compelling. But the biggest adjustment the Ducks need to make for the game against Boise State to be a success is what you pointed out. Technique suffers when the players lack focus. Get their minds on the game and the question, "What do you think about the execution of your team?" will have a different answer than John McKay gave it. -

Very well said. Not only do games early in the season matter, with the expanded playoffs, more games, for more teams will matter at the end of the season than ever before.

The Biggest Question: How Much was Lanning Treating Idaho like Camp??
30Duck replied to Solar's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I can't agree more. Darron Thomas is underrated, that entire team is underrated. in the Chip Kelly era. But it was the closest to get a championship. The championship game against Ohio State's third string QB was bad, and the incomplete passes to Nelson and Stanford will haunt me forever. It's still early for Lanning and his teams to create a championship identity. -
Drum Roll Please . . . Bo Named a Team Captain
30Duck replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I love it, though I'm not close to being a Bronco's fan, way to go Bo. Throughout the buildup to the Draft, not much positive about Bo, not a big arm, low athleticism, if he was NFL ready, why did he stay in college so long? But then whispers from Sean Payton, still recovering from Russell Wilson, "Bo is exactly what I want" And it looks like that was right. With Bo starting for Denver, Oregon joins LSU & Oklahoma as the only schools with two starting NFL quarterback's this season. -
Gabriel Game-Plan: Ignore the Longer Passes?
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This was a game where the stats didn't match up and one in particular stood out to me and ties in to the article. Tez Johnson: 12 catches, 81 yards, that's 6.75 per catch, not exactly stretching the field, At first, I was annoyed when I heard, read a comment that no wonder Gabriel had such a high completion rate, he was throwing checkdowns the whole game. Hopefully, this was part of Oregon wanting to get through this game without showing Boise State anything. -
The Ducks jumped to No. 3 after beating Ohio State in 2021, and it never really felt right. This time they start at No.3 and play like all their shoes are a couple sizes too big.
-
That would be the case if the Poll was computer based. But, since it's voted on by people, this is what you get. Precedent said what happened to Oregon was proper. If a top 5 team gets a W, even an ugly one, they might drop some, they don't plummet, conversely, No.23 doesn't jump up 20 spots by beating No. 13 on a neutral field.

The Biggest Question: How Much was Lanning Treating Idaho like Camp??
30Duck replied to Solar's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great post, Solar. Hindsight is a truly wonderful thing, and I'm seeing the game against Idaho more clearly every day. Somewhere, Lanning has said something like, "Only Oregon beats Oregon". It happened twice last season, and while it didn't happen last week it was too close. The defense was very good. Forever Third and long has been exactly where Oregon's opponents want to be, but Idaho was 2-12 in third down conversions. Gabriel's stat sheet looked like it would have produced more points in most games, but that's why stats don't tell you everything. -
NCAA College Football Rankings: AP Top 25 Football Poll APNEWS.COM The official page for the AP Top 25 college football poll, a tradition since 1936. Oregon Football: The Sky is Not Falling

Agreed. Perhaps there are more out there who are confident that Oregon will cover at -19.5 than I believe there are. I feel that a lot more will take Boise State and the points. -
Oregon Football: The Sky is Not Falling
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The sky isn't falling. Yet. But after the close win over Idaho, it is teetering. A lot of my concern is who the Ducks are playing this Saturday. So far, Boise State does OWN Oregon, 3-0. How Oregon is favored by 19.5 makes no sense. To win this game, the players are going to have to own the field, and Lanning is going to have to be right on every decision. If the Ducks had handled Idaho as they were expected to. the tension level of this game would be a lot lower. Losing to Georgia didn't cause any hang wringing. But Idaho isn't Georgia, so there's more pressure on the second game of this season than any I can remember.
