  1. How is Arizona doing so well recruiting suddenly? They got our WR last year! Sure hope he chooses our Ducks. Perhaps being from Hawaii limits his exposure to more schools?
  2. Utah. Ucla is dissing the Pac. So we need to show NO mercy. Both LA schools should lose every last game! Utah, both WA schools, and our Ducks can carry the Pac12 in the rankings.
  3. Thanks for the understanding. I got fat fingers today. Yes, Dennis Dixon. I loved his play for us that year.
  4. Darren, thanks for all those painful reminders! (Especially the knee collapse of Nixon) Ouch!! Actually, I'm glad you pointed these out. On paper, we should run with ease and contain them. But as you so aptly pointed out, this is Tucson. The ghosts of losses past still lurk. We conquered the demons of Spokane, and demolished the always troublesome Cardinal, I'm trusting our beloved coach Lanning to have our boys prepared for a desert storm! I see Lowe was participating in practice yesterday, so hopefully he will be back. May the spirit of Masoli infect our boys and lead them to victory!
  5. Actually, after Brooks led the team to a bowl in 1989, Knight asked him what would best help the team get to the next level. He said an indoor practice facility. Thus, the Moshofsky center, (not the Knight). Knight deserves all the credit we can give for getting others to buy in, as well as his own generosity, but Oregon was trending up before his major support. Nike marketing deserves major kudos as well. They developed the O, and the uni's, (for which they've made millions at all the other Nike schools).
  6. Phil Knight is a fantastic benefactor, but he doesn't coach a lick. Yes, he has helped to build amazing facilities, and helped encourage others to join him. But I suggest to you every major program has its major benefactors. And tv $$ has helped teams like Maryland, Perdue, even Rutgers have better facilities than half the Pac12. Our success has been due to finding good coaches and letting them have time to do their thing. Also, Nike's marketing genius has helped propel national interest among the nation's elite players. Our recent success is buoyed by a change in recruiting. Taggert & Cristobal did that. And now our beloved coach Lanning is trying to raise the bar even more. I personally believe DL will stay in Eugene, a classic college town, located in the beautiful and abundant northwest, for as long as we want him. Or at least until his boys get to hischool. The other coaches who left had too big of ego's. They had something to prove. Lanning has more confidence in himself, and he wants his family to have a home to return to. As fans, we need to trust the process of his and the teams development. We know we will lose games we don't want to, and win some we don't deserve. But with the continuation of DL bringing in good coaches, our future is bright.
  7. I'm looking at scores, and watching games, and I'm wondering if too much money, too soon, perhaps unearned, is not the answer to making teams better. MSU paid coach Tucker big$$ after one season...they look bad. Texas A & M shelled out major dollars for coach and players...and look very ordinary. USC compared to Utah, if you compare how both did against our little bro'...looks to be the much weaker team. These are only a few examples of not getting the "bang for your buck" most expected with all the huge paydays for coaches and players. Is it possible the acquisition of $$$ takes the "edge" off a player? Or a coach with a long-term contract is not feeling as much pressure to win? I am curious how my OBD brothers & sisters feel about this. It doesn't seem that the big money is being wisely spent. Or is the transfer portal leveling out the playing field more than most thought it would? While we wait for our Ducks to show Stanford who is boss, I'd love to read your thoughts. Thanks, and GOOOOOOOO Ducks!!
  8. How about E. Washington? Do you like that ostentatious red? Or Coastal Carolina's teal? E. Michigan's gray? Central Arkansas purple and gray? Or the brilliant orange of Tokyo Japan? Football is to be played on grass, which is still "green", until the social media gurus tell us otherwise. Lol. Actually, the colored fields are sorta funny, I just love to diss those pesky horses.
  9. Yes. Absolutely. I have hated it when other teams did it to us, but I do like it when we do it. Lanning is a smart guy.
  10. Totally agree! I've always said if Boise wanted to be taken seriously, they should play on a grown-up field!!
  11. Is the cover 2, bend- don't break defense the best bet to slow down the high octane spread offenses of today? I know we've given up too many passing yards (we're 125 out of 131 fbs schools) but besides a few amazing catches, we haven't given up the explosion play much. I think our db's need to react/anticipate a little faster and get better leverage on tackles, and we'd improve a bunch. Thanks for ther terrific recent analysis articles. Reminds me of the early days of Fishduck and how quickly my football knowledge grew. This is fun to watch and learn all the new stuff from our great coaching staff. Charles, we need an article on what the O-line is doing differently from the former regime. He was always claiming how tough they were, but all our stats are vastly improved vs any of the previous 4 years. Go Ducks!!
  12. Thanks Darren. Most fun read I've had in awhile. I think we've all been there, well, I know I have! Your descriptive words will stay with me all season!
  13. The only concern with OSU winning is whether we need USC to be ranked high enough to give the Pac12 relevance in eyes of voters. Realistically, we need UW and Utah and USC to continue winning. And I almost choke writing that. Let the Beavs lose in a close game, but only so the Pac seems relevant.
  14. Night games will never go away. Never. As we are on the "left" coast, ours is the only conference that can provide for the late time slot. And as we know, the media deals ($$) control start times. Part of the hope for ESPN money is that they need us to fill that exact time slot. So here is a thought, Use the late games as a chance to resell your tickets to fans who don't normally get to go. Fresh voices to scream in the night air, and we all stay home and feel proud of ourselves for helping Oregon develop more fan accessibility. And we avoid those crazy long waits in the travel home. Btw, if you haven't read Canzano's take on a combined media deal of steaming and mainline tv, you should. He makes good points. I too like an occasional night game, but boy, I hate that commute home!
  15. ⁰This poll makes more sense then the coaches poll. UW, WSU, OSU and Oregon are 11-1. Gonna be an interesting season in Pac12/10.
  16. Seems to me Dollars is the back in whenever it is an important passing down. I also think he is a patient runner.
  17. I don't think Bo Nix played that bad of a game. The 2nd pic was not a good throw, but we moved the ball pretty good at spots. We had 313 yds and over 140 rushing. It was the right decision not to play backups. Being thrashed on the road against that team is too much a baptism by fire IMHO. I don't understand the RB situation. Dollars and Cardwell had best results and got fewest touches. What of Seven? It seems like he got benched after trying to run back that opening kickoff and only gaining 15 yds. We took touch backs there after. No one should have expected Bo to be a Heisman candidate. Steson Bennett on the other hand, is one. And he played like it. His throws, his ball fakes, his timing were all spot on. He put on a clinic of outstanding qb play. I think our issue with BN, is that SB played so well, we have qb envy. Especially with Marcus in the house, our memories didn't match play on the field. I for one will flush that loss and look forward to EWU. And, I'm so glad we aren't playing on that horrid red field!
  18. Thanks Drex, finally some sanity from the bleacher section. The sky is not falling. We've lost won game to a really, really good, well coached, uber talented, experienced team. And we lost really badly. So, moving forward, we move forward. 67 of UGA's 85 schollies are blue-chip studs. All playing in schemes they know quite well. We, on the other hand, have a ways to go. It should be fun and educational to watch the growth of our team through this season. Now, with tempered, realistic expectations, we can more enjoy all these games, win or lose.
  19. "It's more player led. We can do what we want within the coaches scheme." What exactly does that mean? Anyone? I've heard "player led" before, but I thought that was for practice and self discipline. What does IC mean?
