  1. I think the reverse, would encourage him to stay with Oregon.
  2. When Oregon fired Helfrich, they left "family" and entered the "must win a Natty" club. Not being a blue blood program means we have to go with talented, less experienced leadership. Someone that is truly hungry for that success. I can't believe how excited I am about this hire! For me coach Lanning checks all the boxes. It is clear he genuinely cares for his players. He wants teachers, not just coaches. He will develop players (qb's I hope). I can only believe he will continue recruiting success. Yes, someday he will leave Eugene, but in the meantime, it should be a fun ride!
  3. He did say he wants to be aggressive on offense, defense and special teams. Also an emphasis on teaching and fully developing players.
  4. Yes, totally agree. Mature beyond his years. His experience may be limited, but it certainly has been storied. He has had some great coaches to emulate. I also am thrilled to hear him talk about hiring "teachers", not coaches. I'm hopeful for early success.
  5. He said a lot of good things. "Explosion plays" got my attention. Also "attacking" in all phases of the game. Servant leadership was another. It should be an exciting ride. He seems to have a maturity beyond his years. His players will love him. Let's Go DUCKS!!
  6. I gotta believe this will be a great hire. First of all, he has my name and same last initial. How great is that!! DL!! Too be honest, I am glad JW turned the job down. I was underwhelmed and uninspired with him or CK. A young, hard working, great recruiter is exciting! We should still be able to get top recruits. One thing for sure, our defense should be vastly improved. Maybe KT should reconsider and stay another year. Coach DL will start with a very tough schedule next year, one of our toughest ever. But, he is getting a team loaded with talent at every position. True, we will be inexperienced at QB, and that will be a need to address, I think his OC candidate is a former qb coach. That will help. I think we should be excited about this hire and about next season. We won't go undefeated, but we can still aim for winning Pac12 again. A week ago I was disappointed and blue, today I am excited and back to being green and yellow! I even want to watch the bowl game! Oh how I love to learn about my Ducks!
  7. I agree with the pirate on this one. What about last game of the season, why just the bowl game? In fact, why not the whole senior season?! We harp about coaches leaving early, but it's ok for players? Football is a team sport, isn't it? If your worried about injuries, take out an insurance policy. Ifo did. Marcus did. The school paid the parents back for it too. Go out in style with your brothers. Play the bowl game.
  8. Chip Kelly is a coach who would use the portal to his benefit. Seems he doesn't like recruiting kids who haven't proven anything at D1 level. Question: how do transfer portal students count towards graduation requirements?
  9. Funny, my wife said the same thing. She and I met at Oregon 42 years ago. She has sweetly watched with me all these years. Her knowledge of the game is simplistic, but enjoys it with me for the fun of being together. One time this year after seeing yet another 3 yd pass on 3rd and long, she said, " why doesn't he throw it further downfield?" I suggested she apply to be the OC, cuz that was a brilliant idea!! I too hope for a more fun to watch offense.
  10. How long do you think he would stay? Guy has burned a lot of bridges.
  11. Sure, it can be done, MC proved that. But no one else has. So, can you repeat lightning in a bottle?
  12. How long would he stay?!!? Guy burns more bridges than Grant's March through Georgia!!
  13. Why would you want to keep this from happening? Why keep someone who doesn't want to be here? College football is big business. Everyone has been saying that on this site since NIL. Why wouldn't coaches move on for better perceived opportunities? You can't blame them. We all knew MC wasn't here forever. Some are happy, some are not. One thing for sure, top 10 recruiting classes are a thing of the past.
  14. The past 3 recruiting classes have been the best Oregon EVER had. We were poised for a fourth. There is zero chance others will recruit like Cristobal. Zero. That means that right now is the best we is ever gonna be. Whom ever becomes head coach, will have to be someone who can coach up 3*. Just realize that as a fact.
  15. I think it was a classy move by MC. He didn't have to call in to bft. I think the all in effort he gave Oregon the past 5 years is sign enough he cared about the school, community and the players. Oregon will always be a stepping stone now. After firing Helfrich, it's clear we have no patience. After reading all the "criticism" of MC here this year, it seems we on FD lack patience also. Well we got what many wished for. It may cost us 2-3 more years of waiting, but the current roster is young and full of potential. I hope we can find someone who can make the most of it.
  16. Leaving before signing period is better than leaving after. How can we blame MC for wanting to go "home"? I bet you the only reason he hasn't already decided to leave is because of his character and a desire to do the right and best thing for him and his family. Besides, after reading this site all season, I'm surprised anyone is disappointed if he goes!
  17. I can't believe this. 10 days before early signing... Who will there be to coach in Alamo bowl... College football has become nothing more than big business. Ow. So, according to Canzano, we call Chip Kelly back?!?
  18. Please, don't even suggest that had any bearing on his going "home" for 9 mill/per.
  19. It's on the Fox News app, he is headed to Miami along with most assistants.
  20. With UCLA having 2 in the top 10, why are their recruiting classes so poor?
  21. We felt the same way this year, but you are correct. Head to head apparently is meaningless. I expect future schedules to reflect this change. The upside is that this type of schedule is a selling point to blue-chip recruits. And MC isn't going anywhere just yet.
  22. Any chance this means USC is planning to leave the Pac12 for SEC? Why would Riley leave OU now? He had to be in agreement or why would the school leave the Big12.
