Four Games that Have Defined the Ducks’ DNA in the Lanning Era
Drake replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Colorado got high by sniffing their press clippings before the game. Shilo Sanders trash talked just like dad, and then got embarrassed on National TV. Perfect!! I think when Bo Nix got injured, playing the pups, it changed DL’s mindset of preserving your QB. Now that we have another running QB it will be interesting to see how often they choose to run him. -
We really respect our opponents. Should have been here yesterday, the fish were really biting. It’s gut check time, and we are going to find out who wants it more. We need to take it to the next level.

With the Ducks Playing a Potato, Check Out These Games
Drake replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I will give DJ credit. The odds of receiving a D1 scholarship are slim, and then just over 1% of college players will suit up in the NFL. During the season the NFL may have 100 QB’s on rosters, and most are veteran players. Tough to get an invite to that fraternity. I always hope these guys understand the odds of making a living playing football are rather small, and they use their scholarship to help prepare for their future beyond the grid iron. -
Like any profession, there are probably good agents and some really bad ones. Contracts signed by a minor are a slippery slope. Minors do not have contractual capacity to enter into a binding contract. I think a parent can co-sign an agreement, but not entirely sure. However, a minor can honor a contract and at age 18, the age of contractual capacity, if they have not taken steps to void the contract, it may then be considered legally binding.

Oregon Ducks Football: 3 Things to Watch Against Idaho
Drake replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I have never watched Dillon Gabriel for an entire game. Really interested to see his style of play. I expect the Ducks will establish the run early, and once they have done that, then DG can do his thing. If he is Heisman worthy, then the Ducks should score a lot of points. Idaho is overmatched, and it will be an opportunity to get some tape of younger players that our coaches can review. -
Plan in Place for Home Playoff Game? And Boise State?
Drake replied to DUCKS4OUUO's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oh my…. Boise State is starting Maddux Madsen, a redshirt sophomore at QB. He has played in 10 games, and will be facing a top rated offense and defense at Autzen. He has passed for just over 1,200 total yards. Dillon Gabriel has 14,865 passing yards. Malachi Nelson transferred from USC, but was not named the starter for the first game. The Broncos defensive line rating against Mountain West competition was outside the top 100 in defending the run, and pass rush last year. They did not secure any notable talent from the portal to help shore up their defensive line during the off season. The resale value of an Oregon vs. tOSU ticket kind of says it all…Boise State is not the bigger game, but it is a good game. -
Week 0 for college football unveils that a lot of FSU fans paid thousands to travel to Dublin to end up crying in a properly poured glass of Guinness. Anticipation for our season is running high. Duck fans finally get a chance to see if Dillon Gabriel is the real deal, and if our defense is as good as advertised. Idaho is not a great measuring stick, but it is a chance for us to see how well our talent plays as a team. Go Ducks!!

Too Many Articles Posted? Your Feedback PLEASE....
Drake replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I flip through the articles to see if there is something new. A lot of articles rehash similar news. While some are worthy of discussion, or comments, I leave the article threads without comment. Perhaps that decreases some discussion. Otherwise, it is nice to have them available…so thanks for posting. Plus, many articles have those goofy rabbit holes that you can go down. Such as…The 21 biggest NBA draft busts of all time…I think the Trail Blazers had half of them. -
Not a fan of having someone blow the shrill duck lips into the back of my head. Before they were banned the guys in the seats behind me had both Duck lips and regular Duck calls on lanyards around their necks, and used them the whole game. Stomp, yell, and have fun at the games, but if we are ahead by 30 points, put the kazoo down for awhile.

Despite Hype, Oregon Embarks on a ‘Surprise’ B1G Season
Drake replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The anticipation for this season grows every day. I am trying not to get too caught up in the preseason hype…just want to see it with my own eyes first. I agree with you Charles, our opponents fans will be focusing on Dillon Gabriel’s transfer to Oregon, and the hype on Oregon’s offense. If DG has just an average year, we score a lot of points. Lanning, and staff, have also recruited speed, size, and brought in savvy veteran players from the portal on defense. Our depth looks pretty good to weather the BIG storm on the horizon. -
We must be old school in Oregon. Most are still red here. Yellow trucks must offend the rodents.

Over the years I have accumulated a ton of Duck gear. Wife worked at Nike for a long time, and Internet shopping on the employee website can be a hazard to the wallet. For nationally televised games I think yellow looks great. If it is cold and wet, then anything goes…not the guy that drinks excessive amounts of “antifreeze” and stands around shirtless…at least not anymore.

Safe standing zones? Does that mean they will have security guards protecting obnoxious students from the players?

Dan Lanning is Right Where He's Supposed to Be
Drake replied to Smith72's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I love the story of how he got started. Saves money as an entry level high school teacher…not the easiest task…so that he can leave high school teaching behind, and be hired as an unpaid assistant. RESPECT -
Why not? If you are being honest with yourself, and not thinking an NFL career is your future, a college education is a good long term personal investment when it is taken seriously.

The Sky Has Fallen? How it Happens for Oregon…
Drake replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Scoreboard and wins. No need to see an injury in a blow out win. Mariota sat in the 4th in a number of games. The backups need experience in case of injury, good for moral, and the future. Developing players is part of the game. Can’t always rely on a Heisman caliber QB transferring to Oregon each year. -

Maintaining intensity and our depth will be driving the bus to our success. We will need to rest starters by blowing out lesser teams, and No Running the QB until it is necessary. Letting Gabriel stand on the sideline for the 4th quarter will pay dividends. Our stout OL, QB’s, RB’s, and WR’s = points. Add in the stout DL, fast LB’s, and DB’s = wins. Let’s play ball and see how many wins this adds up too. -
Long term Oregon fans have dealt with more than our fair share of adversity on the football field. That is part of our journey. Winning a championship doesn’t define who we are…but, it would be awesome after all those darn miles I have logged driving from Portland to Eugene for over 40 years.

I can’t say I blame coaches for “coach speak”. The number, and types of questions asked have to become a blur over the course of a season, much less a career. The other part of that is some reporters ask really dumb questions. I think fans like to know about injuries incurred, and the potential outlook for an injured player to return, but that information is somewhat guarded. Recovery is not an exact science, and the severity may really not be known at the time. The main reason I watch some of the interviews is to get a feel for the coaches, and players personalities. It is always easier to be more personable after a win vs. any loss.

USA Men's Basketball: Old Guys Good-as-Gold
Drake replied to OregonDucks's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The rules changed the game. I don’t think for a minute that NBA players are soft. Hand checking has been eliminated, the refs finally started enforcing the rule in the mid 90’s. The 3 point arc was shortened to encourage more outside shooting, and zone defense, once banned, is allowed. Eliminating hand checking turned the game from the low scoring rough and tumble games of the late 80’s, where the Bigs ruled the paint, to the “softer version” that we see today. You want a more physical game, bring back hand checking. Zone defense makes it more difficult for a center, or power forward to offensively dominate the paint. For a reference look at old games that show how the Pistons (Bad Boys) man handled Jordan his first 4 to 5 years in the league. You can’t do that anymore, because the NBA wants to showcase their “best players”. -
Oregon Ducks Football: 3 Biggest Adds of the Offseason
Drake replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Blending players from the transfer portal into the “family environment “ that is spoken about by recruits has to be managed by the coaching staff. Many of the transfer portal players are immediate impact players, and are filling a position that younger less experienced players want as well. Egos get bruised, and that “family environment” gets tested. I listened to an interview with Jabbar Muhammad and he spoke about the connection that DL and staff wants the players to develop on and off the field. The idea is that you will play harder for the players you feel a connection with. College football has changed, and the Ducks seem to have a grasp on how to navigate the landscape. -
2024 Ducks: Most Experience, Depth, and Talent EVER
Drake replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Dillon Gabriel’s arrival definitely changed the outlook for this season. Not to overlook other players on the team, but a senior QB with the potential to win a Heisman seems pretty huge. I anticipate that our offense thrives, and the defense is looking nasty for anything less than a top rated offensive unit. -
Jumping from a High School in Missouri to Nebraska…hmmm…not the normal career path of a coach. Jamar Mozee (father) has become the new Senior Football Assistant at Nebraska.
