The Ohio State Excuses Just Won't Stop
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Harmon is the one and only reason he’s having that procedure. The amount of torque he put on his hand while ripping the ball out was just too much. Add to that the strength of Judkins trying not to lose the ball and you have a lot of force being applied to the bones and ligaments in his hand and wrist. I can promise you Judkins was 100% before that play. -
It's Gabriel or Jeanty for the Heisman

In light of the comments made by Travis Hunter this week. This would be some Wile E. Coyote vs. Acme delivery truck type stuff. -
Why is the Grass ‘Damn Green’ in Eugene?

I also think there is something to be said about the administration you work for and the boosters who support you. We all know the horror stories that come from programs like Auburn, Florida and Texas (pre Sark). They have absolutely zero patience with losing. I can promise you that Sark would’ve been out at Texas if head a losing season in his second year. I believe Oregon doesn’t tolerate losing very well, either. Helfrich is the perfect example. For all the missteps Mullens took early in his time at Oregon, he seems to have done quite a good job over the past several years. Sure, there are some sports that need to improve, but I’m sure he has a plan. It’s very easy to tell when a head coach and AD/boosters don’t have a great relationship (USuC ?). I get a sense that Mullens exercises patience with his coaches and they appreciate him. -
Take a look at the 31:00 mark of this video. The “Bussin’ With the Boys” guys (Taylor Lewan and Will Compton) cross paths with Ryan Day in the tunnel well before the game starts and he doesn’t even acknowledge them. Some might call it focus but he looks like he has the weight of Ohio on his shoulders. Contrast that with their interaction with Lanning at 35:50. Sure, DL won, but he gave these guys full access prior to the outcome. It probably doesn’t hurt that they both played with MM8 in Nashville. However, I feel like Oregon’s administration gives DL a lot of leash when it comes to marketing his program. It seems like Day has a very short leash. That’s probably the difference between blue bloods and new money.

This is actually a question for everybody on this forum. Why do you think Dan Lanning made this statement? Why was he so quick to dismiss rumors of him leaving for Bama? Is it Phil Knight? Is it Rob Mullens? Our fan support? Lack of pressure/expectations? I would love to hear your theories.

OBD Prediction Contest vs. Purdue: Join Us!
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Ducks 28-17 1 TO 1 Sack 307 Yards Passing. -
Bama fans were speaking of KDB as the next Saban genius after he beat UGA. Sorry if I seem callous, but I’m still in “wait and see” mode until OBD gets into the playoffs and wins a game or two. However, tomorrow evening will tell me a lot about him and this team. If they win comfortably then I will agree they’re on a great track. If they slog one out then I’ll be happy with a long road win on a short week, but still have some reservations about being elite.

When Will the Remaining Undefeated Teams Lose?
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Louisville stands a good shot of beating Miami at home if Shough can keep his emotions in check. He wants this win more than the one against Oregon last year. I can’t picture Kirby losing twice in the SEC, but they haven’t looked really good as of late. Texas has a 50/50 shot of losing this weekend. I have Oregon losing in Madison next month. Long trip, cold weather, very hostile environment and a much improved Wisconsin team will be too much. They destroyed a 4-1 Rutgers team last week. Their fans will also be extra juiced up since they’ve lost two straight Rose Bowls to us. That place will be as hostile as Autzen was last Saturday. Our only hope is that it will be a day game. -
NCAA Closes the "Oregon Loophole", I Think Not.
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I absolutely loved the call Kalen DeBoer made on 4th down against WSU last year to save their season. Fake zone read with a reverse. It probably wouldn't be effective near the goal line, but it was a very successful play. -
Who would they hire to replace him? They would definitely be the top choice of schools with a vacancy. Florida, Auburn, and FSU are a mess with regard to their administrative leadership/boosters. Baylor and UNC aren't football schools and won't pay big money for a top tier coach. Their only competition might be Penn state. They seem to have a good administration, plenty of money, great facilities and they have showed a lot of patience. However, if they don't make the playoffs, I don't see Franklin being retained. All the great coaches are gainfully employed by top tier programs. There really isn't anybody to poach if they want to make a big splash. Freeman, Schiano or Matt Campbell might be good fits, but they would be underwhelming choices. Urban isn't coming back. Cignetti just got to Indiana, so I don't see him leaving. I'm just trying to wrap my head around who they could hire.

They get the timeout back. It’s in the rule book. This is from “Another OD’s” post on the other thread. -

Now that everybody knows about it, the coach or QB can call an immediate timeout if he sees 12 players on defense in that situation. The ref will then penalize the defense with no time off the clock. -
This Intentional Penalty is Next Level Coaching
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The thing is Ryan Day did recognize the 12th man, but all he did was tell the refs that there was a 12th man on the field. Had he known the rules better he could've called timeout or had his QB run the play clock down to 0. Then, he would've gotten five yards with no time off the play clock. -
Disappointed in National Coverage of Oregon vs. Ohio State
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Quick question. Which player was Hall? I know some OSU fans are griping about there being one second left when Howard slid, but he didn’t get a first down so the clock kept running because nobody called a timeout fast enough. In fact it would be virtually impossible. -
Dennis Erickson did this to Rick Neiuheisel back in 2009 right before halftime. It only gets noticed when it’s a big game involving a blue blood. The good thing is the cat is out of the bag, so it can never be used against Oregon. However, we got a big win out of it.

Disappointed in National Coverage of Oregon vs. Ohio State
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to a topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Remember last year after Oregon lost in Seattle? All everybody was talking about was how the Ducks were actually the better team and would beat them in a rematch. Well, that rematch came and Washington was the better team. Hyping a rematch is not necessarily a bad thing for the talking heads.
