  1. I was thinking about the playoffs and conference championship games and it got me thinking about different strategies. Now, the conference championship is being sold as a great thing because you get a first round bye. However, isn’t that championship game just another playoff game? Is not making the conference championship game just another form of a bye? Sure, you’re probably playing tougher teams as a 5-12 seed, but everybody has to win 4 games after the regular season if they want to be national champions. However, the loser of the conference championship game would have to play 5 games after the regular season to win it all. Now, I am making assumptions that the losing team in the conference championship game will make the playoffs. It’s almost guaranteed in the SEC and B1G. This leaves me to wonder if there are any teams out there who might use a different strategy to avoid the conference championship game. There are a couple of reasons why it might be a good idea. First one is resting injured players in the final regular season game who might need the extra time to recover and be healthy for the playoffs. Another reason would be if you know you’re going to be overmatched in the conference championship game and you want to avoid that 5th game. Of course, this could backfire in a number of ways. Like if you assume you’re going to make the playoffs with one or two losses. However, the committee could take it into consideration that a really good SEC or B1G team lost their final regular season game because their QB was recovering from an injury. Especially if there are other one or two loss teams in the top 11 who you have already beaten.
  2. Many of the pundits had USC losing to Rutgers tonight, but the Scarlet Sopranos got worked like a non-union brick layer. It was close going into the 4th quarter though.
  3. This right here is the difference between having boosters and having an owner.
  4. Dan’s right. CFB is more like the NFL now. I see the Ducks ending the regular season with at least one loss.
  5. You can see the back judge immediately reach for his flag because he suspects it is a face mask. However, for some reason he decided against throwing it.
  6. Truth be told. I was very happy that they canceled that game. They went to the NC game that year and Oregon lost to Cal and Beavis. They also had the Brown/Shough thing going on at QB. OSU would’ve throttled OBD by at least 4 TD’s. Especially, with no fans allowed. The Iowa State Fiesta Bowl was bad enough.
  7. The crowd needs to treat this team like they did Ohio State. The Illini QB plays relatively mistake-free football, so the fans need to make his life difficult. Hopefully, their vocal cords are fully rested.
  8. Bama should beat Mizzou, but they play LSU in Baton Rouge on the 9th. That game will surely be at night so that will end Bama’s playoff hopes.
  9. Oregon 31-20 1 TO 1 Sack 236 Yards Passing.
  10. Not Saturday, but tonight. Boise State vs. UNLV. I want to see how Jeanty does against Barry Odom's defense.
  11. The last guy in your quotes actually gets it. He’s observed what Oregon is doing and doesn’t just spew what the popular opinion is in LA. He’s probably a Duck fan in Trojans clothing.
  12. Noah is great out of the backfield. He’s no Saladin McCullough, but he’s a great receiver and runner. Oregon doesn’t really use the Tazer Back that was so popular in Chip’s offense, so he’s best used out of the backfield. Also, we don’t see what the coaches see in practice.
  13. Their DT's are small, but they held Michigan to 114 yards on the ground with two fumbles lost. However, their defense gave up over 200 yards to the vaunted Michigan passing attack.
  14. Looks like I’ll be heading up to catch one of their games and watch them take a beating. I love Boone in the Fall. I’ll make sure to wear black and yellow. I’m sure there will be an “O” on my clothes somewhere.
  15. There’s something about this color combo that just feels right.
  16. It's going to be hard for Illionois to win if they show up on Saturday only to find out the game has been moved to Friday night. Previewing Illinois’ offense ahead of Friday night’s game with Oregon DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Illinois’ offense could create some unique problems for Oregon’s defense on Saturday.
  17. At some point we need to see if this staff can develop a QB instead of plucking transfers out of the portal every year.
  18. Timeouts aren’t like shots off of a shooters fingertips in basketball. The refs don’t review for the exact second the knee went down and match it with when the coaches fingertip hits his palm to see if the timeout was called with tenths of seconds left on the clock. The only scenario I could see where that would happen is if it’s was an ACC crew in a Miami game.
  19. The other players also need time to get used to his system. He should have them humming along in year 3, but patience is not something that Bama fans have in surplus.
  20. DeBoer. He’s more Jennifer Cohen’s type. They make beautiful music together.
  21. Stephen A is a ring sniffer. He is a huge fan of whoever is the best team/players in each sport (except Dallas). He always loved the NBA Finals matchups between Steph and LeBron. That way he was always happy with the result.
  22. The referee has to blow the play dead before a timeout can be issued. Just because a freeze frame showed :01 on the clock with the QB’s shin on the ground doesn’t mean that there was a full second. There may have been a few tenths left. Not enough time for a referee to blow the play dead before the clock hit :00. The funny thing is I heard this from a Buckeyes fan who obviously had enough of his fellow fan’s whining.
  23. Truth be told, it was pretty bad basketball all the way around. The Lynx shot 37% and 15% from three point range. The Liberty shot 30% and 8%.
  24. Somebody sure was bitter about the result. Cheryl Reeve blasts officiating, says title 'stolen' from Lynx - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said the WNBA title was "stolen" from her team due to what she called "incredibly disappointing" officiating.
  25. Probably last year. Jones, Young and Tua were all starters.
