Ruh-Roh! Mario Loses Star QB Recruit
Mic replied to Vandownbytheriverduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This is what happens when a team is projected to possibly win the conference and they can't finish above .500. If Miami doesn't get to a bowl game this year (a real possibility) there will be a lot more blood in the water, as you say. But you gotta remember, Miami is situated right smack dab in the middle of one of the best recruiting regions in the U.S. -
Joel Klatt: Oregon Made Scheduling Mistake with Georgia
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I was just kidding. You see, the Georgia Bulldogs claimed Atlanta Georgia (probably home to more Bulldog fans than anywhere else outside Athens) as their "neutral site". Hardly a true neutral site. -
Joel Klatt: Oregon Made Scheduling Mistake with Georgia
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What do U want to bet that IF Oregon gets Georgia or some other top SEC team to agree to play us anywhere in Oregon , they'd likely refuse? Or am I wrong again and we do have a top SEC team on the schedule due to come out to our "neutral" site? Charles may have the answer to this one. Might I suggest Corvallis as our "neutral site"? -
I'll be there yelling with them. Oh .. and I take back my 'guess' that there might not be a sellout due to the weather. My friends are all lathering over this one. I may very well have misspoke!

Indeed. Georgia had one he_l of a Defense, still do. I know 9 games is a very short time span to make judgements but like I said earlier, what we can see is the incredible contrast from how this team is performing under Lanning's leadership (with his own hand-picked assistants) verses what we saw last year under MC with his. The contrast couldn't be starker. Besides, it's easy for us to be 'throwing around' the University's money. We ain't paying it!

Who knows? After Saturday it might just stick!

Callous Up: Husky Fans Predict Saturday's Score
Mic replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yeah. Fans will say crazy things about their team. This will be a battle and the Ducks will certainly get tested, esp if Oregon can't put pressure on the QB. In that great analysis by Dazed & Confused where he discusses the Cover 1 and Cover 2, the Tampa 2 and the (I love this name) the 'Jeff-7' variant he discusses various ways the Ducks might be able to put pressure on Penix and force some bad throws or get some sacks. I think Oregon is going to have to be able to do that to stop UW a few times while (hopefully) Dillingham's offense clicks and O scores. I know this: I wouldn't trade Bo Nix for any other QB in the nation right now. Nor do I think either would DL & KD. -
Callous Up: Husky Fans Predict Saturday's Score

And my favorite of the wishful thinking: "In high profile game, Bo Nix reverts to form and throws 2 picks. Huskies win 38-27." In your dreams. -
Joel Klatt: Oregon Made Scheduling Mistake with Georgia
Mic replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Klatt's entitled to his own opinion. I don't share it. There are enough reasons cited above by numerous Duck fans to more than counter Mr. Klatt's questionable judgement. Maybe he'd 'duck' a tough opponent but I'm rather glad Oregon did not despite the embarrassing loss. O's come out pretty good in the long end. GO OREGON! -
Ask, and thou shalt receive. Nice work here McDuck! You know what this means, right? If O beats the Fuskies Saturday Dan wins $100,000 smackers. Rivalry, indeed!
-
Agreed; but the contrast between team performance, enthusiasm and attitude as compared to MC's last year is amazing.
-
I knew we were doing pretty good, fumbles-wise, but I didn't know we were doing this good. Oregon has probably had more targeting calls called on them than T.O.s this year !!! This is a very refreshing stat to see, so thanks Drake!

I did a quick numbers check and find that of the top 25 "winningest" coaches, the average salary is ~6,000,000. So Dan's right there considering he's a 1st-yr coach. Not bad. It might not take much more to keep him depending on who comes wooing. 9 games is just too short of a time span to know for certain how things will go. He's playing with another man's cards (to a certain degree). The dreaded MC.

Yes, I too think this will be Oregon's toughest so far. I stupidly picked UCLA to win narrowly because I didn't know just how good Lanning's offense really was. I'm not making that mistake again, but I do think the -13.5 points given O is too many. Our Secondary is going to really be tested. I have a lot of respect for Karen DeBoar as well.
-
Or if the offense scores in 3-4 plays and kicks the ball back to the opponent. Lanning has taught Oregon how to score quickly when needed, slower when needed. O is actually winning the Time-of-Possession while blowing out opponents with lightening scores.

The 7-Jeff? Defensive Surprises in Store for the Huskies

This is one of the best articles about an upcoming matchup I've read this year, Dazed. Very, very interesting and informative. -
The 7-Jeff? Defensive Surprises in Store for the Huskies
Mic replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If Oregon wants to tread where the Big Dogs tread (the CFB Playoffs) they will have to show everyone they can handle and overcome a passing offense like UW's. They kinda did with WSU & Az's but the nation's #1 passing team will be a big test Oregon has to pass. Imo, winning this game 48-45 isn't going to get them the respect they need from the Playoff committee. O needs to win this game 42-20 or 45-24. -
Pretty in-depth analysis and prediction here. Can't find much fault with any of it. Not that this has anything to do with your analysis above but I thought it interesting to note that the University of Washington has more than double the student body of Oregon (>49,000 as compared to 22,000). And something many of us probably didn't realize is how many more students Ore State has than Oregon (33,000). I'm guessing Oregon may be one of the smallest colleges in the Top 25 but that's more research than I want to do. What's all this mean? Not much, except to emphasize how important Phil Knight has been to the U of O and how hard it's going to be to keep the $ up to retain a really good coach.

This page is from the continuously updated website that tracks the Coaches on the Hot Seat, supposedly updated day-by-day. (However, the chart shows Dan Lanning's w/l record at 7-1). Regardless, what this chart shows is how our coach stacks up against the other most successful (and safest) coaches. What's interesting is Lanning's age and salary as compared to his counterparts. Winningest Active Coaches WWW.COACHESHOTSEAT.COM Coaches Hot Seat provides the Coaches Hot Seat Rankings and Coaches Hot Seat Daily News to College Football fans everywhere. Clearly, Oregon is probably going to have to up Dan's salary if they want to keep him at Oregon. His $5,000,000 is pretty good but if you check the chart you can see that he's one of the lowest paid amongst the top 25 coaches. Currently (by this chart) Dan is ranked #3 due in large part to his 8-game winning streak in this his 1st year. Even more revealing are the other pages showing coaches on the hot seat and their salaries. Oregon is currently very blessed to have the coach they have, it would appear. Some will say 2/3 of one season is much too short to be a clear indicator. I'd agree except we fans have the luxury of seeing the contrast and turnaround in OBD's team performance from last year to this one.

I remember telling the wife OSU should have kicked those two FG's earlier in the contest. And it came back to bite them hard. Pity the Wash hadn't chosen poodles as their mascot and team name. I like real huskies. I don't so much poodles. Purple Poodles is a good name for them.

Like I said, learning new things every day! I knew about Manning, and thought possibly Bennett was, but didn't know that Stephens and Bridges were 4-stars, nor Gonzalez (though I think now I did near something about that on tv last game). Sure glad he was on our side of the ball and not Colorado's last Saturday. Bet they wish the opposite!

There's a 2024 CB recruit from Sheldon HS here in Eugene named Nikko Klemm. Is there any relation to our Off. Line coach Adrian Klemm?
