  1. KD Might be locked and loaded as an OC: He would be a better candidate in a year or two once he has had the chance to watch how Lanning handles the ins and outs of running the whole program. He will be a better rounded candidate after learning through observation. In any event, I don't see Miami ever wanting to hire another coach from Oregon: They'll still have that bad taste in their mouth.
  2. He has his priorities straight. Wife before football. In a perfect world I'm sure he would have both his wife and the ducks, but he gave up one to strengthen the other.
  3. I was surprised to see how small the footprint is for UW: Maybe I shouldn't be...
  4. this game wasn't even televised in Montana: a good move in retrospect. I had to go to ESPN3 online for this...
  5. If we must become a part of the machine to survive, then a conference with three 7-team divisions sounds good to me: the western division could be mostly former Pac-12 teams (wouldn't that just chap USC's hide?). Conference championships would be a four team playoff with the division winners and the non-division winner with the best record.
  6. I am no fan of the NIL and am concerned that it will destroy college football as we have come to know it. I am not inclined to do anything that perpetuates it
  7. The wild card that wicked doesn't mention is injury: Getting meaningful game time experience (not just garbage time) can be a life-saver if our #1 goes down for any length of time.
  8. I'm a fan of the college game first and foremost. Because I've been deprived of football for so long I will watch that first Thursday night game (the actual start of the college football season) just to see some game action: If one or both of those second-tier teams has any cache, then all the better. I've chosen to watch football on Saturday and get my work done on Sunday: not enough room to watch both college and the pros (except Herbert and Mariota: I'll watch if I know they're on).
  9. There is no question as to the positives that MC brought to the ducks in regards to character, work ethic and integrity, so I am hesitant to vilify the man for the shortcomings that we saw as time passed. The test for him will be whether he learns from his failures at Oregon and correct them or repeats them. Bill Belicheck and Pete Carroll both had horrendous stops along the road but they leanred/adapted and eventually become top tier coaches. The sad fact for Oregon was that MC probably needed to crash and burn before the lessons were learned, and – if he has learned – they came at Oregon’s expense. I wish MC well, right up to the moment when his team takes the field against the Ducks
  10. He had his flaws, but character was not one of them
  11. Sure hope I don't start getting calls from Coral Gables this fall
  12. I'm watching via satellite but they had no excuse, as I sent them a sat phone and they have yet to use it
  13. Duck 1972: if you want the boycott to be effective, concentrate on the TV broadcasts only: That'll send a message to the money people
  14. I'd rather have those dogs do well - right up until they play us. It's so nice to send them home with their tails between their legs. It also boosts our rating
  15. I would add the Oregon-Michigan game we played in Ann Arbor when we completely dominated the Wolverines. So many good plays there, but my favorite was the fake handoff that allowed Dixon to walk into the endzone without being touched. Lloyd Carr's days were numbered after that.
  16. I had to look that one up too, Jester. The important thing is that you chose to educate yourself. Now stay clear of the Husky forum: You'd only kill the braincells that you just nurtured...
  17. I think CalBear's suggestion is brilliant out-of-the-box thinking. It preserves the greatest parts of college athletics and actually enhances the profitability that the dollar-chasers covet. Well done.
  18. Big 10/SEC? Screw 'em. I'd prefer picking up a few of the strong Texas schools and/or OK State and having a Coastal division (UW, WSU, UO, OSU, Stan & Cal) and SW division (Utah, Colo, Arizona, ASU, OK State & Baylor(?)). We'd pick up the Texas market, keep relatively compact, preserve most of our traditional rivalries, keep the Rose Bowl and stay out of the snow zone. Maybe add four more teams to go to 16 if you must.
  19. Excuse me if the following question has been asked/answered: I haven't seen it... If we choose to pay the big bucks for a 5 star, what guarantee do we have that he won't choose to go somewhere else (for even more money) after one productive year? Both player and university need to have some skin in the game: The school is making a financial commitment along with player-development; the player should be expected to stay at that school for an agreed-upon number of years. Doing otherwise would set the school up to be a college football cuckold. I don't like what NIL is doing to college football, but if we are to live with it, I think that all schools should be limited to a total cap across the entire team and that the coaching staff should be able to decide if they want to sink all of their money into a QB, or spend some of it for a hot edge rusher, or lineman or safety. And that total cap should be an amount that most schools can afford: This would preserve the chance for parity.
  20. I caught my largest trout (21") at three creeks lake on the flanks of one of the sisters. It was Memorial day weekend and snow blocked access to half of the lakes' camp sites.
  21. Cut him from the squad: see which teams are willing to add a cancer to their roster
