As of Monday, despite his team’s loss to Kansas, Travis Hunter is still the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. But, I believe he should be disqualified for arrogance and stupidity. Hunter has done it multiple times this year ...

Darren Perkins of FishDuck.com believes that Travis Hunter’s Heisman Trophy poses are bush league acts of self indulgence.

Hey Darren great article!  I agree wholeheartedly. 
 

What was really annoying was how they kept replaying it with the announcers acting like it was the greatest original thing to do.

65 here and let me echo that.  It looks like Jeanty probably got a big boost. This was also the game where Hunter's Heisman trophy candidate teammate, Shedeur Sanders, drew some attention, but no penalty, for shoving a Ref.

 

There were a few articles this weekend about Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders facing a possible suspension for shoving a ref Saturday vs. Kansas. There will be no suspension. Talked to a Big 12 source who told me that’s being “handled internally with CU.”

Well, he does have a 4.0 GPA as a psychology major and was named an Academic All-American, so he's certainly book smart.

The man(?) does have some "undeniable" talent.  Showboater? Yeah.  Loudmouth? Yeah.

Arrogant?  Yeah.

 

Confidence in himself and his ceiling?  NO!  (See above). 

 

He will be drafted in the first round (Giants?) and will have some "stellar" moments his rookie year.  Then NFL coaches will figure his game out and he will crash back down to earth. 

 

When he can no longer depend solely on his talents and has to "work" the QB position his "confidence" will begin to show itself and he will fade into a perennial backup or into obscurity altogether.

 

If I was voting I'd have to go Cam Ward or Jeanty.

Yeah, Sanders. I'm going with my west-coast bias and Jeanty.

I'm STD of the Sanders' dog and pony show. Of course he's a show boat, look who his coach is.

 

That said, he's a unique player and the Heisman voters love dynamic, flashy players.  Jeanty is impressive for sure, I just don't see many east of the Rockies voting for him and his numbers are somewhat inflated because of MWC opponents.

 

Gabriel, like Nix, is "just" a really solid, cerebral team leader.  Unfortunately that's not what draws Heisman votes.

While the Heisman is certainly a tremendous award and it brings awareness and spotlight to a program, I would say that being prepared for the NFL is a much better play.

 

Getting to the Big10 CG, the CFP, and having a shot at a 'Natty, is better for your program than a generational talent winning a singular award.  

 

I echo that Hunter has not gone up against "elite" competition this year.  Can he compete with the best of the best in the NFL rather than feasting on Big12 talent?  I have my doubts.

 

Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams (both Heisman winners) have had mixed success in the NFL.  The analysts are already talking about how Jayden Daniels has had "flashy" moments, but he seems to be plateauing and fading in his first year.  They (this was the First Take crew) contrast that with Bo Nix who is getting stronger and better as the year goes on.

 

Best quote I heard was from an analyst who said that if the draft was to happen again, he would take Bo Nix #1.

Just a thought, but with his coach at Miami, I'd say that Ward is solely depending on his talent. and a cooperative video review crew.

I think Hunter will win the Heisman…..and should.

 

He’s an elite player on both offense and defense, and plays against competition that is clearly stronger than what Jeanty faces.

There is no doubt TH is a great athelete. Playing as many snaps as he does is truly impressive. But the Heisman is also about character. He and his whole team fail there.

 

Ashton Jeanty will get marked down cuz he plays in the MWC. But 2 things worth noting:

1- he played well against #1 Oregon 

 

2- every team designs their defense on stopping him. Yet he still puts up great numbers consistently, weekly. And, his team is winning.

 

My vote is for him.

I think our Dillon is 2nd. He has been very good for us. Would we be #1 without him?

This is where I have a problem with the Heisman. I think that Gabriel's 4th & 9 pass to Ferguson was a bigger "Heisman Moment" than any moment Jeanty or Sanders have had all season.

The Gabriel pass was incredible, thrown to the only spot where it had a chance to be completed. As good as the pass was, it was also a difficult and game changing catch by Ferguson.

Unfortunately he will probably win.  But I am sure he and Shedeur will both choke in NFL due to their character flaws, not to mention Hunter simply won't last in that league if he tries to play both sides.  Whichever teams that draft them will regret.

Desmond's pose was the first and greatest.  Time to retire it.

I've watched some YouTube videos of Travis, and he is a genuinely good dude.

 

Also, remember last year when that CSU player took him out with a dirty hit and was getting death threats so Travis went bowling with him and posted it over social media that they were hanging out together.

 

He didn't have to do that. I would say it takes tremendous character to go out of your way to defend a rival who tried to hurt you.

 

It's over the top to pose for an award you haven't received, but at the same time they don't call it a Heisman campaign for nothing.

 

Should it really be considered a lack of character for him to campaign for himself when he is celebrating his successes on the field?

 

I'm okay with Travis playing around on my lawn.

I say yes. Celebrating your own success doesn't work for me when your team is winning, let alone when they're losing, and hurting their chances at the Playoffs. As for campaigning? Let your school put up a billboard.
