I wasn't going to be surprised by "beaten," or "defeated."

But "embarrassed". I didn't see that coming.

Smith backed up his talk. Nobody could cover him, couldn't get a hand on Howard. He's my pick for the Heisman next season.

The mark of a champion is consistency, you know, like 13-0? Will Ohio State continue to play as they did today?

Not betting on it.

If you don t count the minus 43 yrs rushing by Dillon Gabriel,  ducks rushed for 20 yards today and 14 of those were Jame who didn't play long I don t think.  We have some holes to fill for next year.  Our running back depth seems weak, our linebackers questionable, and our defense failed the last 6 quarters of play.  It's only year three of Dan Lanning and we went 13-1, has to be considered a fine season with a disappointing end.  Ohio State is very good it seems, but this game was an anomaly.  Long layoff, no Stewart, James got hurt early, who knows why.  Maybe someone knows lol.  Go Ducks!

With a playoffs, you only need to be consistent enough to get into the field and then peak at the right time.

I'd bet good money (not really since I don't gamble) that we can hand OSU the championship trophy right now.

The playoff format is a joke and Oregon got completely hosed.

Can someone name another example of the #1 overall seed being an underdog in the first playoff game they play?

This was tough. We need to analyze and see what is going on. How could there be no plan for #4?!? What happened with our OL, and run game did not look that great at all.

It was fun while it lasted. I do think the layoff was to long and made a difference in the first quarter. I also believe that  DG was out of sink even when he had time in the pocket, he was not seeing the field and was gun shy.

I do think they made good adjustments but it was to little to late because the deficit was to great forcing them to be predictable.

I hope that the coaches really evaluate and learn how to fix what was broken in this game.

Hats off to this great team and to their great year.

13-1, B1G Champions, undefeated regular seaon.  How many of us saw that back in August?

Still, this sucks. OBD didn’t start playing OBD football until they spotted osu2 a 34-0 lead.0. To say we started flat would be an understatement.

There are a lot of things I(we) could blame for today, but blame fixes nothing.  For now, I want to congratulate the 2024 edition of OBD for a memorable and enjoyable first season in B1G.

Let’s be real. Their WR group was bigger and faster and better. Ours was smaller and slower. Our QB was short and it showed on every pass over the middle. Their Qb made almost every throw.  Our O line could not hang and our Mercenary D was outmatched by their O. Oregon got exposed from top to bottom, all three phases and coaching.

Oregon is still an also ran despite going undefeated. The writing was on the wall after the PSU game. We were manhandled and still eeked out a victory.

We will see what Dan Lanning is as a coach recruiter and leader.

Go Ducks but f-me me right now. This feels like Dallas and last year in Vegas.

Early observations, with the caveat that I turned the sound off and did not read all of the game thread comments:

1. On two of Jeremiah Smith's touchdowns, there was no defensive player near him. I am not denying him credit, but there appeared to be somewhat wrong with the defensive scheme or execution. If Oregon out-coached OSU before, it looked like Chip got the better of Tosh this time. OSU appeared better prepared with one week's practice than Oregon with three. Puzzling.

2. Jack Sawyer won his matchup with Cornelius. He had a big impact, including pass deflections.

3. Evan Stewart was not available at some point. I do not know what happened, but that must have affected our offensive scheme, as he was integral to our first game success.

4. I was confident that Burch and Uiagelelei would put heavy pressure on Howard. I am shocked at how well their patchwork offensive line held up against our defensive front, both running and throwing. Again, puzzling.

5. Oregon had a great year. This was a tough end to it, but congratulations and thanks to our players, coaches and staff for their success.

Thoughts! Some negative and some positive:

Negative:

- 34 to 0 is unacceptable. I'm unconvinced by the "too much time" off argument.

- As a Duck and 49er fan, I'm over short QBs that have a hard time seeing over OLs.

- IF, a short QB is used, and is athletic, then that QB should be used in the run game to keep offenses honest.

- I would have been fine (still angry) to lose in a hard-fought battle down to the wire . . . but that was embarrassing.

- Frustrated that Lanning is a defensive "genius" with HIS guys and that's the best they could muster against tosu . . . same for Stein.

- I'm tired of opponents' WRs towering over our DBs . . . and our WRs typically on the smaller side.

- Best defensive line at Oregon in a long time . . . and still very little pressure on the QB of a high quality team.

- Need revamp of the RB room.

- Chip Kelly still got it!

Positive:

- Oregon's trajectory has continued its upward trend.

- 13-0 in the B10 and conference champion.

- Hopefully Dante Moore is the future stud we want and need.

- I trust Dan Lanning to make the changes needed . . . he has some of the best connections in CFB (i.e., Norvell, Saban, Smart)

- Great 2025 recruiting class

Sorry that the negative is more than the positive, but I'm so done with tosu getting in the way of so much Oregon glory.

So, some fan bases, and some message boards (I'm looking at you, Ohio State), would right now be calling for the firing of the defensive coordinator. And, I know this is post-defeat bitterness, but might there be a case to be made for the Ducks? Last two games the Oregon defense has given up 78 points and 1,023 yards, albeit both to very good teams. Today, they looked unprepared and confused. Firing the DC seems to be what would often happen in many other programs. I don't think I have the evaluative skills to have an opinion, but what about the more knowledgeable fellow commenters here?

This was an amazing season and congratulations to all our players. I do not think that our coaches had us prepared for this game. How do we give up 34 unanswered points? How do we let Dillon Gabriel get sacked 8 times? How do we let Jeremiah Smith run wild with very little coverage? How does our highly rated defensive line get zero sacks and very little pressure? It will be a long off season.

That was a great season, nothing can take the accomplishments away. What was made clear today is that OBD isn't Ohio State yet. Which really isn't that hard to understand. Remember when they beat OBD with their 3rd string QB? They'll be this good next year, and the year after that. They reload. Oregon is still building.

I don't think it was a scheme, prep, rust problem. Ohio State had bigger, better players, everywhere. Smith is 6'3 225, the Ducks covering him were 5'9 190. DG kept getting throws swatted back in his face.

Good season.

My take (imo!) is that the offensive line wasn’t on par with the rest of the talent on this team. We probably should have been 10-2, but had enough other talent to barely outflank the handful of teams that exposed our oline (Idaho, BSU, Wisconsin). I also think the secondary was relatively (compared to top teams) subpar, but good enough for most teams on the schedule.

That and tOSU is probably the best team…though I’m not sure how we would have fared in the next round against the remaining field.

Kenyon Sadiq? From a schematic perspective, I'd like to know how Kenyon went from monster game against PSU to non-factor in the Rose Bowl? Seemed like DG wasn't seeing the field as he normally does, but I also didn't see many/any throws to Kenyon. Isn't he one of our Uber athletes that's difficult to match up with?

This is how you do it, and 2024 was an important step up...

This game, and our secondary vs. their WRs, shows why you need to recruit HS, versus relying only on 3 stars that blossomed into solid contributors from the portal. The physical differences set a lower ceiling.

Donate Manning was a five star which is the counter argument, why you still need portal players, some don't pan out as the best.

You recruit the best out of high school, and develop them, then you plug gaps with the portal.

We are still in the transition to DL's HS recruits, and won't see the full benefit of this 2025 crew for 3-4 more seasons.

Years ago the NCAA tournament had byes for the top teams. During the early 80's Oregon State was the number one seed, they then had to play in the second round. They were also undefeated. They lost. Byes are no reward. Teams lose momentum. The engine goes cold and it's hard to get back to that peak performance that you attained during the season. I think that is why the tournaments eliminated the byes. Not that the bye was the main reason for this loss, I am sure there are many other factors the ducks need to address.

All Righty Then!

Pros can snooze for 14 days and be ready to play ball. College guys, 30+?

ASU after an early no-show could have won the game. The Ducks? Plucked early on to the point where only a zealot (like me) after the half thought there would be a chance.

Oregon looked more like Boiler Makers than High Flying Ducks.

No offense to tOSU, but the Buckeyes were a team coming off a disaster, redeemed by an SEC mugging, and heading to the Left Coast with confidence and revenge in mind.

Oregon lost the INTERIM. No way the Buckeyes players are that much better than our guys on the Ducks roster but with a game in hand tOSU was ready to play. Oregon, DUH, was not.

Oregon on its game would have defeated Texas in Dallas and moved on to Atlanta but that was yesterday ...

GO Buckeyes and Nits, let's have an all-B1G Final!

As we said in Boston for many decadesWAIT Till Next Year! While enjoying one heck of a year!
