Haywarduck Moderator No. 2 Share Posted November 14, 2021 AB threw a beautiful pass with the receiver moving last night, we just need more of them, and less turnovers. I think what we are finally realizing is AB's biggest role is as a run threat. I never would have thought he was going to be such a runner, after all his knee injuries. I will say he comes off as a bit of a diva to me, at times. I hope he isn't meaning his the lack of catches is a form of disrespect, but it may. But I don't think he sees the truth as I see it; he does NOT have elite speed, and is an average punt returner compared to many great ones of the past. He will hit the hole fast, but also is patient to wait for his blockers, and look for cut back lanes when necessary. His last touchdown was a great example. Made it look easy. toketeeman No. 9 Share Posted November 14, 2021 (edited) One thing that really bugged me was on two occasions we were chugging at 3rd-and-long (as 10-12 yards) and the call that went in was to throw to Dye in the near flat RUNNING ON THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. Both times Dye got crushed FOR NO GAIN. Why in earth aren't we going more vertical in these 3rd-down situations, especially with Pittman and others? There are a ton of moves that come from experience that Dye was not doing over a year ago for example, and Caldwell has yet to learn. It is the difference between a two yard carry and a five yard one, IMHO. His comment was something to the effect that there were several Oregon receivers, himself included, who would be putting up Drake London numbers if they were targeted as much as he was. It seemed clear to me that he's not a happy camper. At least he was fielding punts last night instead of letting them soar over his head, like he did in the first half of the Washington game last week. For a super talented receiver such as him, it has to be frustrating playing on an offense where AB's role as a runner has become a key component. What Duck QB does he imagine would be throwing the passes so he and the other receivers would match London's Air Raid numbers? Here is the interview I referred to which took place after the UCLA game. Mycah matter of factly answers the questions, but the devil is in the details. He points out that he was desperate to make something happen with the pass he caught because he doesn't get targeted very often. He also points out that there are many Oregon receivers that would be putting up the numbers of Drake London if they got as many chances as him. He is obviously frustrated at that point in the season while happy that Oregon finally had a game plan vs UCLA that focused on the passing game. One can only imagine how he feels now. We see them blocking, blocking and blocking. They are part of the success of the running game. All that work for just 1 or 2 touches a game. Or no touches? The players focused on team and winning will stay. The P12 Championships and New Years 6 Bowl games are some of the rewards...... Along with whatever they make of a great education opportunity. Those players driven by their personal or individual goals may hit the portal. And that's really okay. Their college opportunity is short and I will always respect the choices they make. C J No. 20 Share Posted November 15, 2021 I can't blame Pittman or any of the other receivers for being frustrated. I too am frustrated about it. It doesn't seem like there is much that can be done though. Cristobal's "avalanche" offensive scheme is coming into its own at this point in the season. I don't think we are going to see the Ducks throwing the ball much from here on out as long as the avalanche (aka the Oregon offensive line) keeps dominating. JM will game plan to AB's short to medium passing range skill. That sets up the running game on the edges We have blockers and backs to capitalize on this. It's pretty clear that Cristobal's/JoMo's quarterback and offensive strategy are set in stone at this point.
