Oregon Football's Best On-Field Sponsorships
Other Nike clients will also take Nike's money. Nike wouldn't mind being on every field that use their uniforms and shoes. They might pay a little more for the privilege in Autzen. But that is determined by viewership more than anything.

RIP Bill Walton - Dead of Cancer at Age 71
Cancer??? More likely Bill died of a broken heart that his beloved UCLA was so instrumental in the demise of his even more beloved PAC 8-10-12. The Conference of Champions.

Tasty Tidbits for Oregon Fans...
When I was a kid, growing up in the LA area, you could by 7-8 houses for that much money.

Wow. I Guess it's True. "Butt" this Opinion is Like They Say, Everyone has One . . .
I wonder if someone will predict that the PAC 2 will send 3 teams to the playoffs.... ????

Move the Goalpost: Who Changed Your Opinion Most?
OK, I'm going to wade into the water here. The goalposts were moved incrementally. The guy who moved them the most was Rich Brooks. It took a LONG, LONG time, but Rich Brooks took the Ducks from VERY BAD to bowl eligibility, to the Rose Bowl. If he didn't jump to the NFL, there is no telling what he could have accomplished over the next few years. Rich Brooks moved the goalposts from "We just want to beat the Beavers" to "We want to be in a bowl game every year". That move was MASSIVE. Bellotti moved the goalposts from "We want to be in a bowl game every year" to "We want to be in a good bowl game every year." Chip said his goal was to play football in January every year. That meant New Years Six or better. He moved the goalposts (in our minds) to "We want Alabama!" Later we realized that we didn't have the dudes in the trenches to regularly take on the 'Bamas of the world. With the goalposts so close to as far as they can go, all of the heavy lifting of moving them had been done. MC moved the goalposts closer by proving that you can recruit to Oregon and did a great job of doing so. DL has moved the goalposts as far as they can go. The goal is to be the National Championship hunt every year and win it all on at least a semi-regular basis. Not only does the Oregon fan base believe this, but the rest of the CFB world is starting to expect it too.

Could This Be a Helicopter Parent Problem?
I try not to look for stuff to worry about. I doubt that Sr. will be a problem, and I trust Dan Lanning to handle the problem in an appropriate manor if it should arise in the future.

Report: College Football Rosters Could Be Trimmed to 85-95 Players Under New Proposal
I didn't read the article, but want to comment on the idea. I can see why some might want this: As many have pointed out here, the scholarship limit can be gotten around by simply offering someone enough NIL money to more than pay for their tuition. Good point. Scholarship limits brought more parity to college football and other sports. Programs with unlimited funds can simply buy over 100 scholarships. The problem I see with this idea is that it hurts, and almost eliminates the walk-on athlete, especially in the Power Conference level. Jonathan Smith was a walk-on at OSU and lead the Beavers to their highest heights ever. Stetson Bennett walked on at Georgia and won two consecutive National Championships. Thousands of walk-ons have made it on to the field without a scholarship... and even passed up scholarship players in front of them. 85 players is right at the scholarship level and 95 players is only 10 over. Most teams get kickers, punters and other specialists via walk-ons. Where is there room for anyone else?

OMIGOSH! Lanning Wants to "Retire Here?"
Ever since Dan Lanning gave his "Do you have goals?" speech, I thought of a couple goals he might have: 1) at least 410 NCAA football wins as a coach (that would put him past Joe Paterno). 2) at least 8 NCAA football National Championships as a coach (which would put him past Nick Saban). Anybody else have a goal or two that Dan Lanning might like??

Some Advice Please... Wife Wants to Offer a B&B for the Ohio State Game
Take their money. It´s probably green. Most B&Bs are fairly expensive... out of my price range anyway. If they are spending thousands of dollars just to watch one game, might as well get your share.

Bo Nix: First Rounder or What?
Besides all the football stuff, how about these intangibles that make a difference? He's mature. He's not just older than most QBs coming out of college, he acts like it. He's married. He will go home at night instead of being out looking.

Carlos Locklyn ... It's A Done Deal
We don't know. Maybe Lock was talking seriously with tOSU, talked with Lanning about it, and Oregon couldn't match the offer. ???

What were Oregon State and WSU Supposed to Do?
Thanks for the article. I, too, do not understand the vitriol thrown at the two schools. As I pointed out a month or two ago, in another post, that what we might lose financially and simply be understood and accepted as akin to whoever wants to poach Dan Lanning from Oregon would have to pay Oregon $20 million. It is simply the cost of making the move. The title of the article asks a very good question: What were they supposed to do??? I haven't seen or heard any reasonable answer to that question other than the answer in the article. One thing I am certain of: If Oregon was left in the PAC, they would have done exactly the same thing.

CBS Sports Dennis Dodd's Revised Preseason Top 25 Rankings
I think that at the end of this next season, I would prefer to come in at #5. That way, we get to host at AUTZEN against a beatable 1st round opponent. Winning that, in the wings will be the 4 rated team, instead of a 1-3. The only downside is having to play 3 games to win the championship.

Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!
CK will once again be able to concentrate on leading an offense. No recruiting. No dealing with donors. No doing anything that he is bad at... wasting his time. Chip has plenty of money so he doesn´t really need any more. I think what he may be worried about is his legacy. He changed college football forever at Oregon and almost won a national championship with 3 star talent. He has been a bust ever since. On this forum, someone said about Chip after he return to college and couldn´t win anything.... "I haven't seen anyone lose this much on TV since Hamilton Burger." Is that what Chip wants to be remembered as??? Being able to concentrate on just the offense at one of the best schools in the country with one of the best rosters in the country, Chip could win multiple national championships before he retires. That's the way to be remembered. One of the best offensive minds ever to coach.

So How Good Was Jedd Fisch at Recruiting?
If Fisch would have staid committed to AZ, he would no doubt be recruiting much better in the next two cycles. Who would have wanted to go to AZ the last couple of years??? That said, I doubt he will have much problem bringing people to UW. He was a QB coach in the NFL. Look what he did with freshman Fifita. What overlooked but talented high school QB wouldn't want to learn under Fisch. OL guys want to protect good QBs. WRs and TEs want to run routs for good QBs. You get the point.
-
It's Official...HC Jed Fisch to Washington
Agree, but this is a great hire for UW. I don't know that waiting a year and continuing to grow AZ would get him any better destination or any higher pay. It is a big pay increase for Fisch, and if he can build over the long haul, his future is secure.
