Season Over--Now Real Work Starts for Coaches
Tandaian replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That would be a ton of money. The NFL rookie minimum is over 500,000. So, if a guy makes the team, he is making at least 500,000. 6th and 7th rounders only make a team 30-35% of the time. What percentage of drafted players make an NFL roster? WWW.SPORTSKEEDA.COM Players drafted into the NFL are already facing tough odds to make the NFL roster. There's no guarantee that all of the drafted players will make the team's 53-man roster by the time Week-1 begins. We have seen first-hand plenty of Ducks leave early and not get drafted or get drafted later than they assumed. These kids growing up dreaming of going to the NFL. Even if they are given bad information, when somebody tells them they will get drafted, they listen like it is a given. I think some kids might be persuaded to come back given the right NIL deal, but far fewer than we probably think. -

End-of-season review: On the whole, the Ducks were very good in 2022 DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Time for a year-end review. We’ve got top performers, biggest surprises, and players who need to show more going forward. -
tOSU fans expect wins vs Michigan. It is crazy. Made the CFP twice and won the Rose Bowl in his 3rd year. Terrible coach? tOSU and Alabama expect Titles or the season is a waste.

It is unfortunate the article didn't mention anything about grad transfers. Kids who graduated college in the past were able to transfer without waiting a year.

I'm not a fan of Clemson dropping only 1 spot after losing at home to a previously unranked team. The Ducks drop 7 spots losing on the road to a ranked team. Ducks are where they belong in the rankings, but Clemson certainly doesn't belong at 9.

Dilly's ASU Decision was Rash....Like His Coaching?
Tandaian replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Dillingham gets a raise from 1 mil to 3.8 mil. Nice to go "home" and get nearly 4 times your salary. -
Rose Bowl thinks more highly of itself than the rest of the college football world. I wonder how much of the Pac 12 decision making process has rubbed off on the Rose Bowl board of directors? Nobody cares about the rose parade before the game, except the Rose Bowl and some people in Los Angeles. To be so concerned about the game time is silly. They are going to be left out and then what? The B1G TEN isn't going to want to continue playing the game if it isn't a NY6 game. Sources - Rose Bowl given Wednesday deadline for CFP WWW.ESPN.COM The Rose Bowl faces possible exclusion from the expanded College Football Playoff if the bowl can't agree to terms before a Wednesday deadline, sources told ESPN's Heather Dinich.

What Bowl Game Might Oregon Play?
Tandaian replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Pac 12 Bowl Games (My prediction for which team will go to the bowl is first in line) Rose Bowl Pac 12 winner (USC/Utah) New year 6 Bowl Top 12 ranking (Washington/USC) Alamo Bowl #2 (Utah/Washington) Holiday Bowl #3 (UO/OSU/UCLA) Vegas Bowl #4/5 (UCLA/OSU/UO) Sun Bowl #4/5 (OSU/UCLA) Los Angeles/Jimmy Kimmel Bowl #6 (WSU) OSU is notorious for being a terrible traveling team, so that is why I have them going to the Sun Bowl. However, maybe the Holiday Bowl goes with the feel-good story and takes them. After the Alamo bowl game, the bowls can choose teams if they are within 1 loss of each other in the Pac 12 standings. -
In the Huskie game, don't do the swinging gate on our 2nd possession which resulted in the fumble and don't onside kick just before half time. That is a 10 point swing. In the Beaver game, kick the FG on our 2nd possession. Ducks can then kick the FG to get the lead on our last possession. The Beavers final 3 scoring drives 38 yards, 2 yards and 28 yards. In a season there are highs and lows. I can't get too high or get too low. The high and low 10% are not the norm for a team. If you asked any of the rich donors what they thought of Mullens and Lanning after the UCLA game, they would have told you they were behind them 100%.

The defense needs to be looked at, but I really don't like to make changes just for change's sake. I truly don't believe 1 season is enough to know what the defense is going to look like, especially when they don't have their guys. Yes, the players on paper appear to be talented. However, if you are asking guys to do things, they aren't good at doing, they aren't going to excel no matter how much coaching they get. Keep Tosh, but he definitely hasn't started on the right foot. If there isn't noticeable improvement after next season, then yeah maybe start looking for a new DC. Personally, I think OC and DC really need to have 3 or 4 years to get a fair shake of installing their system. Yes, the offense looked great for the most part this year, but was it a one-year fluke?

The Beavers only win vs a P5 opponent with a winning record vs P5 opponents is the Ducks. A 4 point win at home doesn't make OSU greatly superior to UO. Especially, when they were outgained in total yards and 0-3 in turnover battle. Ducks have 2 wins vs P5 opponents with winning records vs P5 opponents. Utah and UCLA. If OSU had won by 10+, then they could have a gripe of ranking.

It is a rule in all of college football. Fans have to give teams 5 minutes to leave the field. This isn't the first time a fan and a player interacted after a game this season. This puts players in dangerous situations. Thousands vs 85-100. If you don't give a wide birth, you are on the field at your own risk.

"Lanning Plays With Fire, Duck Fans Get Burned"
Tandaian replied to Desert Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The score was never 34-10. It was 31-10, then 31-17, then 34-17. Always take the points in the 1st half, especially on the road. ABC and ESPN don't know how to read the play by play score board. -
It is a good hire, not a great hire. I don't give any coach 8 years, except Saban or Dabo. It is hard though. You want it to be painful for a coach to leave early, but don't want to be on the hook, if the coach stinks. He will likely win 8 games next season. They have enough talent, just 3-5 playd a game causing a lot of losses.

Ducks WRs are better than Beavers secondary. If we don't get cute, our O should do well in the 2nd half. -
UC Regents Delay Decision on UCLA to B1G
Tandaian replied to HawaiiDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I would find it odd if the B1G TEN media rights required 16 teams to be in the B1G TEN. Why does the B1G TEN have to add another team? The move has only ever worked on paper and for football with only USC and UCLA. If there were 6 west coast teams, it could work for all sports more or less. I supposed the B1G TEN could have hurt feelings, but the TV partners got the LA market with USC or UCLA. They don't really need both. -

Lanning Plays With Fire, Duck Fans Get Burned
Tandaian replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm not sure what to think yet. Lanning's and Dillingham's aggressiveness is part of who they are as coaches. My personal preference is not to be as aggressive. The UW game definitely solidified the coming back to the mean in success rate. Their aggressiveness/cuteness cost us the game in my opinion. I think the Ducks only need to do two plays different and they win. 1, don't do the onside kick. 2, don't do the swinging gate on 3rd & 1 and fumble at the UW 4-yard line. I'm a fan of analytics, but I'm also not one to only follow analytics. I get the Ducks have had a high success rate on 4th and short, but you have to know the time and place. With a banged up QB, you have to punt your own 33 with less than 90 seconds to go. Nobody is perfect, so unfortunately with their style of coaching we will have to endure coaching mistakes. Hopefully, they truly learn from them. -
Why Was Oregon’s Defense More Successful Against Utah?
Tandaian replied to lownslowav8r's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Two 5 Star LBs aren't the same. Two 4 Star safeties are not the same. Two 3 star DL aren't the same. The Ducks are also on their 3rd defensive coordinator in 3 years. Every defensive coordinator recruited kids for their defense. Sewell and Flowe are downhill LBs there to stop the run. They are absolutely not LBs to cover TEs or RBs. This roster is made up of a hodgepodge of kids for 3 different defensive schemes. Yes, they are highly talented kids, but it is a bit like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I think this defense has underperformed on the season, but I think consistency is going to do wonders for the kids. -
I would have to see what other teams are out there, but losses have to matter. I don't think LSU as the SEC champ should be automatically in the CFP. UGA is all that and more, but the SEC is not a juggernaut this season. Alabama hasn't beat a great team, their best wins are against Ole Miss and Mississippi St. LSU beat Alabama, Ole Miss and Miss St. LSU to FSU and got smashed by Tennessee. FSU, at 8-3, had a 3 game losing streak.
-
I'd compare TCU to FSU in 2014. They do just enough to keep winning. I think they will get smoked in the CFP. Big 12 isn't full of top 10 talent teams, but they aren't ACC either. Any P5 team undefeated at this point in the season is worthy of the CFP.
