  1. Gold: UCLA, Oregon about to get up front and personal SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Forget the skill talent on the field Saturday in the Pac-12's marquee matchup of the year. UCLA vs. Oregon both have everything on the line.
  2. I have no problems with players getting compensated more than scholarships. When schools are making tens and sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars for sports, the players that generate that money deserve to get their own. The schools aren't even directly paying the athletes, so it isn't like the schools are even losing money. The line between college and professional athlete is very blurry. For all but a few sports, it is business as usual. It is those few sports that generate a lot of money, where the issues pop up. In professional sports, teams can't call up Lebron, Judge or Herbert and talk to them about changing teams anytime they want. There are windows when those conversations can happen. Same guidelines should be put in place for college athletes.
  3. I get college athletes are not under contract and are not employees, but to receive offers to transfer during the season is tampering. If the team wants to offer players money, do it during the transfer portal windows. Yahoo Sports Dan Wentzel College coaches and leaders have dubbed these offers as “inducements” and called it “tampering.” A clear mind would see it as something else — a cause for celebration. A college kid being offered life-changing money is a great thing, not a problem in need of federal regulation. If it wasn't tampering, then why does every professional sports league make it against the rules to contact players while under contract?
  4. I believe Lanning's oldest children are now in middle school. Moving while in high school is always hard. We might get lucky and have him not to move his kids again.
  5. Minor correction: Chip Kelly was with the Ducks for 6 seasons. 2 as OC and 4 as HC. He is in his 5th season as HC for UCLA. UO UCLA 2007 OC 2018 HC 2008 OC 2019 HC 2009 HC 2020 HC 2010 HC 2021 HC 2011 HC 2022 HC 2012 HC

  7. B/R's 2022 Heisman Trophy Rankings: The Chase Has Arrived BLEACHERREPORT.COM C.J. Stroud remains the Heisman Trophy favorite, but Ohio State's star quarterback officially has company. Not only did Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker... Having the "error free" Bo Nix show up to the UCLA game will one key to winning.
  8. Brandon Staley is not a good HC. The Chargers have lucked into their last 2 wins. For the life of me, I can't find out the length of Staley's contract, but I'm guessing 5 years? Chargers need to move on, unless he starts making better decisions and game plans.
  9. Everybody wants a winner. More preferable an exciting winner. Oregon was spoiled with the short Chip Kelly (OC and HC) era and Helfrich's first 2 years (2007-2014). Scoring a ton of points and winning. That is what Oregon fans expect now.

  16. Not that USC leaving for the B1G TEN isn't another reason to hate them, but if Oregon gets invited to the B1G TEN, they are not going to blink an eye about going there. It is a bit silly to be angry at somebody for doing exactly what we would do in the exact same position. We need to root for what is best for the Pac 12 for this years CFP. We really needed Utah and Oregon to hold the banner, since USC/UCLA are leaving, but it looks way better for Oregon to be the only school to beat both USC/UCLA.
  17. Unfortunately, we aren't talking about the Pac 12 getting 10 million less per year than the B1G TEN or SEC. The B1G TEN signed a 7 year 8.4 billion dollar contract. I'm not sure how the people creating the articles say each school will get between 80-100 mil, when 1.2 billion divided by 16 equals 75 mil. SEC signed a 10 year 3 billion dollar contract for only their old CBS games. This is above and beyond their current ESPN contract. As far as I can tell the SEC will be #2 behind the B1G Ten, let's say 70 mil per school. Pac 12 was hoping to get 500 mil per season, but that was with USC and UCLA. The number I heard thrown around is USC and UCLA are worth 30% of the TV revenue. That brings the contract down to 350 mil per year. If the Pac 12 stays at 10 schools, that is 35 mil per school per year. Pac 12 is going to fall behind by 35-40 mil per school per year. The CFP is supposedly worth 450 mil. However, we don't know how they are going to divide that money. It likely will be like March Madness and each conference gets a "point" based on number of games played. If that is true, the expanded CFP will not help get the Pac 12, ACC or Big 12 more money to catch up with the SEC and B1G TEN. It will actually give the SEC and B1G TEN more money over the other conferences. If Oregon wants to be on equal footing making money, they have to move to the B1G TEN, but they have to go with UW, Stanford and Cal. I truly think USC and UCLA are going to lose Olympic sport athletes once it is shown flying 2,000 miles for all away games sucks. Fanbase_Sizes-DRAFTv1.pdf - Google Drive DRIVE.GOOGLE.COM B1G TEN TV market, TV fanbase Rutgers (1) NY, 1.18 mil Illinois/Northwestern (3) Chicago 1.36 mil, 0.82 mil Penn State (4) Philly 6.36 mil Minnesota (14) Minneapolis 1.26 mil Michigan/MSU (15) Detroit 6.26 mil, 3.07 mil Indiana/Purdue (25) Indianapolis 0.61 mil Maryland (28) Baltimore 1.91 mil tOSU (33) Columbus 11.26 mil Iowa (68) Des Moines 2.36 mil Nebraska (72) Omaha 2.55 mil Wisconsin (81) Madison 4.57 mil Pac 12 TV Market, TV fanbase Cal/Stanford (6) SF 1.14 mil, 0.89 mil ASU (11) Phoenix 1.95 mil Washington (12) Seattle 2.46 mil Oregon (21) Portland 5.54 mil Colorado (16) Denver 0.95 mil Utah (30) SLC 1.09 mil Arizona (64) Tuscon 1.04 mil OSU 0.79 mil WSU 0.85 mil So, market size Oregon, UW, Cal/Stanford are bigger than half of the B1G TEN. 18. USC winning is better for the Pac 12, so that means it is better for Oregon. Conference games this weekend. Cal @ Colorado Need Cal to win Arizona @ Washington Need Washington to win Stanford @ Notre Dame Need Stanford to win USC @ Utah Need USC to win WSU @ OSU Both 4-2, but WSU having a win vs Wisconsin, we need WSU to win. The Pac 12 needs to have a true pecking order.
  19. Dan Lanning on secondary: 'I thought our guys played maybe our most complete game' 247SPORTS.COM Oregon's defensive backfield has taken some hits along the way, beginning with an opening-game rout by No. 1 Georgia, losing 49-3. After losing their top two

  21. Kenyon Sadiq, ATH ESPN 300 ranking: 153 Sadiq is one of the premier big skill prospects in the country. The 6-4, 225-pounder posted rare testing measurables across the board for an athlete of his size at our Northern California camp this offseason. He jumped 32 inches on the vertical test and broad jumped 122 inches, showing elite lower-body explosion on a big frame. Those traits have translated into even more big-play production on the field this fall. Depending on Oregon's needs and his development, Sadiq could play WR or in a TE-H role. Along with ESPN 300 commits WR Jurrion Dickey, WR Ashton Cozart and RB Dante Dowdell, the Ducks have assembled one of the most physically impressive hauls of skill players in this class.
  22. Dan Lanning expects a big recruiting weekend vs. UCLA Bruins DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM “I’m hoping to have some really great players on campus. It’s going to be an awesome atmosphere.”
  23. Freezing out UCLA/USC would be great way to say, I hope you choke on your cake. No way Pac 12 stops playing the rest of the B1G TEN.
  24. Flowe can't be on any NFL teams radar, IMO. He hasn't played enough to show enough to be a highly picked player. I can't see any NFL team taking him before the 4th round.
  25. This is from an ESPN insider article. The most hilarious line is the first line in the 2nd paragraph. The offensive struggles weren't expected? I don't think Matt Miller watched a single Duck game while Mario was head coach. Miami Hurricanes' offense What's broken? The Hurricanes hired away coach Mario Cristobal from Oregon with the idea he would bring a tough, innovative offense after shaping quarterback Justin Herbert and offensive tackle Penei Sewell into top-10 draft picks for the Ducks. That hasn't happened yet, as Miami is averaging 32.8 points per game, 46th best in the nation. And while the Hurricanes are putting together 466.6 yards per game (22nd), it isn't translating to points on the field -- or wins for the 2-3 squad. (It's worth noting that those numbers are pushed up by a 70-point showing in Week 1 against Bethune-Cookman, too.) The offensive struggles weren't expected but are logical since Cristobal has implemented a complete change to the Miami offensive scheme. His players are learning a completely new offense under a new coaching staff. It takes time, but the results have been worrisome. The rush game has averaged only 4.0 yards per carry, and the offense as a whole has just 20 plays that have gone for 20-plus yards (tied for 108th in the country). Can it be fixed? The issues in Miami are certainly fixable, but it's likely a 2023 solve rather than an immediate one. Left tackle Zion Nelson has missed time due to injury and has struggled when he's on the field. That's obviously hurting the Miami offensive line and putting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke under pressure. This new scheme has also asked Van Dyke to do more classic pocket play, which is hard with a bad offensive line. Simply put, Miami has a talent problem up front. Cristobal cut his teeth as an offensive line coach, and he needs to build a wall there. Miami does have freshman tackles Matthew McCoy and Anez Cooper, who will be key players as the Hurricanes retool the line. Recruits Francis Mauigoa, Antonio Tripp and Connor Lew are also projected to join the team in 2023. Who is the draft prospect most affected? Tyler Van Dyke, QB. He had some first-round buzz heading into the season, but that has largely quieted after a tough start, and Van Dyke was even benched in Week 5 against Middle Tennessee after throwing two interceptions. The 6-foot-4 sophomore had a nice bounce-back game in the Week 6 loss to North Carolina, but talk of Cristobal's offense propelling Van Dyke's stock has quieted. Right now the focus for the QB is just on keeping the starting job.
