All this makes my thoughts turn to baseball and the minor leagues. I think the average minor-league players gets about $15,000 in salary. Compare that to getting paid tuition, room & board, books, etc. for college football players (and all college players on full scholarship). That probably adds up to around $100,000 a year, at least for out-of-state student athletes. Now add in the potential earnings with NIL. The sky seems to be the limit there. Of course, in the minor leagues, players don't have to attend class or worry about NCAA regulations (whatever rules are left).

Learning About Lanning: “This is a VERY HARD Program”
Annie replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oh, something about it popped up on my FB timeline--I should have read more closely. Long ago, in another life time, I attended a coaches clinic as someone's guest. Whether people had to be invited then, I don't know. -

Just wondering--is anyone going to the coaches clinic? It would be fun to get a report. -

You mean I was breaking the law when I won a whole $20 in the 1999 men's basketball bracket? -
I remember one year that due to injuries Oregon went through 5 or 6 QBs by the end of the season.

Rumored $8 Million NIL Deal for 5-Star QB Recruit
Annie replied to McDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Is a player who gets $5 million before he even sets foot on a field going to give his all when it comes to playing football? -
Are YOU Celebrating "Final-Friday" in Oregon?
Annie replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I guess I'm on a different page. I'll continue to wear my mask for a while longer in certain circumstances (going to Fred Meyer, for example). -
Maybe it's because the recruits will be able to spend more time talking to the coaches (and the coaches to them)? They can take a little more time to show them the facilities, etc.

For some reason today I thought about Mark Schmidt and googled him. What comes up but an article about him on FishDuck from 2013? It's a very interesting, in-depth article, and the part about what Mark treasures most about his day with Gang Green makes me wonder if players feel the same in this age of NIL. A Dominant "Gang Green" D-Lineman: The big man he is today, thanks... FISHDUCK.COM The legendary and never forgotten "Gang Green Defense" of 1994-1995 was instrumental in the turnaround of Oregon...

On a plus side, the later a first-round player is taken, the better the team he goes to. -

Did the Ohio State Victory Hatch Mario’s “Miami” Plan?
Annie replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It bothers me that, looking back, in or around mid-November MC seemed to let his interest in Miami distract him in regard to coaching Oregon. -
Grew up in CT, moved to Eugene with my dh and daughter in 1975 when he got a job as a professor at the UO. None of us had ever been to a college football game. In fact, the only football game we'd been to was a Giants preseason/exhibition game at Yale Bowl. Neither my high school nor college had football teams. (I was once teasingly chastised by my HS history teacher because I didn't know who Y.A. Tittle was.). So, we decided to go to the Duck-beav game that year. At that point I think the Ducks had beaten the beavs only once since 1963. But the Ducks won that day and we were hooked. Went to every home game the next year, then got season tickets the year after that.
