Oregon's So-So Running Backs: Will Davison Grab the Top Spot?
Davison has the body type that can wear down a defense. He is a +230lbs back, with thunder thighs, that can run through some DB’s. From my experience, driving through a tackle of someone 30 to 40 lbs heavier sounds great, until you are the one doing it. Just go run into a wall at full speed, and that will give you the true experience of getting curb stomped by a RB, or TE, that we see at times on the field. Personally, I like splitting reps with a change of tempo type combo. Power runner, coupled with an elusive fast guy. Perhaps knowing the blocking schemes, and assignments, keeps Hughes on the sidelines. Our depth is great for playing average teams, but you need the guys that know what is going on when any audible is called in the big games.

Big Moves in AP, Coaches Polls
18 undefeated teams in the top 25 after 4 weeks. Currently, we are tied for first.

Holy Crap! Indiana was ASTOUNDING
Illinois is not a top 10 team, but Indiana truly embarrassed them. Indiana believes they belong in the CFP picture, and I won’t argue. Their QB was 21/23 passing, and they rushed for over 300 yards. They also had 7 sacks. Nobody beats a team with those stats. Home field advantage at Autzen is the real deal, and our defense will be challenged. 10/11 will be a can’t miss game.

Our Beloved Ducks: Not Quite Ready for 'Natty Time?
Natty ready? As in, are we under, or overrated? This is a good team. Always tough to judge how good, against teams where we are favored by 4 to 5 touchdowns. So far, we are not relying heavily on one receiver, or running back. Eight players caught passes today, with Sadiq having the most with four receptions. We ran 45 times, and Limar had the largest load with 12 carries. We were faced with 3rd and long too many times today, and the 3rd down conversion rate was low, based on the quality of the defense we faced. Next week we will get a clearer picture of whether we are a viable contender.

The Crumbling OSUs...
Tough to win when in today’s version of D1 football when you have no money to compete. Tough to pay bills when nobody wants to buy tickets to watch your imploding football program. Firing the coach sounds good, but you are hoping the new coach can sell season tickets, but still have no money for the new staff to recruit. Dismantling the football program when the state just floated $45 million in bonds on your stadium is not a good look for the rodents.

Not the most attractive carving. I would have recommended something more like this…

Oh Geez....Now Canzano Wants the Moniker "Civil War" Back?
I always thought of the name as a play on the word “civil”. As in, we at times tolerate each other…no confederate flag involved. However, the fact that Oregon is known as the Beaver State should be the next thing cancelled.

Oregon’s Perimeter Blocking is Much Improved
The bubble works best when we are playing fast, the running game is potent, and QB can throw to all levels of the field. Ross Douglas, the wide receivers coach, has the receivers running crisp routes, and blocking at a high level. Considering all the new faces on offense, we are far from playing our best game this season.

You're Dan Lanning: What Do YOU Want From Oregon on Saturday?
Friends son already asked, a few of his friends needed tickets as well. Game day at Autzen on a nice September afternoon is about as good as it gets for Duck fans. Hope you enjoy the game.

You're Dan Lanning: What Do YOU Want From Oregon on Saturday?
Embarrass them so badly that they never schedule another game with the Ducks. Not interested in going to the game, and giving away my tickets this week.

Oregon Football: 2025’s Best Defender So Far
Defensively, we are solid. Approximately, 10 points allowed per game, even when accounting for late touchdowns when many starters are on the sidelines. Our defensive tackles should improve as the season plays out. Have to remember that they are big bodies, but they are still developing their in game skills working together. The linebackers will definitely benefit as they improve. I think Bryce embodies the term “special player.” How did he get overlooked coming out of high school for baseball, and football? He then worked his a$$ off to develop into a top player for both teams. Have to love a guy who bleeds yellow and green.

More Surprises: Oregon Linebacker Jerry Mixon...Big-10 Defensive Player of the Week?
A good example of a player that was not on the radar from his previous play far exceeding expectations. Congrats Mr. Mixon.

Poor Rushing Defense: How Realistic Are We?
Northwestern had 42 yards of offense in the first half. 174 yards of their 313 yards (55%) of offense took place in the 4th quarter, which was when they scored their only points against our 2nd and 3rd team defenders. Winning ugly still gets the W. Although, I can’t say that I am overly confident that we have a top 10 defense. So, the question becomes, can we outscore our opponents?

Rise of the Fake 6th Man
I have been to many college, and pro stadiums, and they all follow a predictable formula. By the way, refs can already stop play because of artificial noise. The music, or noise from speakers well above field level are not the reason teams win, or lose. I never have heard any coaches say that if they turned off all the speakers we would have won. But, many talk about a stadium being a tough environment, referring to the crowd noise.

Week 3 B1G Games and Big Games
Good thing we play Northwestern week 3. Could you imagine playing them in November with gale like winds coming off the lake? Ughh

Let’s Talk About the Ducks’ New Defensive Position
Have to give our DL credit for allowing us to have different personnel packages at DB. Take a great athlete, and use their intelligence, and abilities, to wreak havoc. I will go back a few years and say a player like Troy Dye would probably have excelled in the position. A thorough knowledge of the opposing offense, good sideline to sideline speed, great tackler, and was a cruise missile coming up to stop the run.

Hummm, Ohio St. Wants Unequal Revenue Sharing???
Change never occurs until someone proposes a new idea. Having a tiered payout where teams that play in bowl games, or the CFP, are rewarded makes sense to me. I could see trying to work out revenue sharing based on viewership being very messy.

Jurrion Dickey Finds a New Home, Diablo Valley (Junior) College...and Then Moves AGAIN?
Some injuries are hard to come back from. Best of luck Jurrion. DL stated that players are expected to be on time for meetings, and practice when asked about Jurrion’s status. There were also rumors that he was fighting with teammates at practice.

Will Stein's OPPOSITE OFFENSE...or a Head-Fake?
Stein has the luxury of having a QB that has gone to school studying his offense for over a year. I think he rolls out the “deception” plays because they work, are fun to run. Plus, you are probably correct that our future opponents have to watch that tape. The hire of Ross Douglas as receivers coach, probably added some plays to the arsenal, as well as being a great addition for teaching players. The Ducks are fun to watch, which also helps future recruiting efforts. But, to answer the question of what is going on. I think our schedule overall is soft, and the coaches know that scoring a lot of points is needed to separate ourselves from the pack.

Oregon Football: Expectations of Dante Moore
Dante was a 4 year starter in high school. He helped lead his team to the state championship three times, and the team won two titles in their division. As far as I can see from his high school highlights they play 11 man football. Any last minute drive requires an extraordinary team effort. I feel comfortable giving him the ball. When he is done at Oregon he will probably be playing on Sundays.

Offense Strategy: To Reveal Or Not To Reveal?
Let’s see…our vanilla offense will run, or throw out of the Shotgun, pistol, or under center. Depending on the down we will go empty backfield, multiple RB’s, trips, or quad receiver overloads, and multiple TE sets. I have to wonder what Stein considers a complicated offense.

Does the Team Seem Different This Year? (Coaching)
Definitely different. First two games were fun to watch this year, and last year the first two were somewhat painful. As far as I can tell, we have an NFL caliber QB, RBs, WR’s, TE, and OL. Then on defense…NFL caliber DE’s, DT’s, LB’s, CB’s, and S. This team drips with talent, and they play hard for each other. I think that I really like that we will be the underdog going to Penn State in a few weeks. All the pressure will be on them to prove that they can beat a CFP caliber team.
