Let's leave Ohio State vs. Miami for another thread later in the day... Another B1G vs. SEC matchup to kick the day off. I’m going with Vandy but only because they chose to honor Phil Knight with the Shoe Duck uniforms. However, Iowa just ripped through their defense like it was standing still.

Phil Steele is just another cog in a media machine that spits out the same narrative every year. This year he put the blue bloods in the pre-season top 10 and called it a day. Of his top 5 teams he only got Ohio State correct. I think most of us in this forum could match that. Of the remaining eight teams he only got Bama, UGA and Ohio State correct.

It looks like Oregon could be looking for another WR coach. Douglas played at Michigan and then transferred to Rutgers. He’s done a great job, but I’m sure DL can find another good coach if he decides to leave. The WR room has a lot of upside to say the least.

The Alamo Bowl crowd is looking kind of sparse. I’ve been to a couple of these games and it’s always been packed. Especially with the USAF basic trainees taking up a section or two. I always thought this was one of the better non-BCS bowl games.

That’s way cheaper than what many of us paid for Penn State tickets. My guess is distance is playing a factor along with fans waiting until the semi-finals and championship games to make a serious investment into their teams.

This is one of the reasons bowl season doesn’t really get me excited. All the good ones are reserved for the playoffs and the non-playoff teams get stuck with the leftovers. Meanwhile, the playoff teams get spread to the four winds. I guess it’s a good way to fill your case with bowl trophies if you’re good enough to be in the hunt for a championship.

Great article. Here's some more Tech trivia. I believe they're the only school to have killed their own mascot in the middle of a game. In a 1994 game their black quarter horse named Double T threw his masked rider and ran towards the tunnel. When he hit the pavement he slipped and slammed into the wall breaking his neck. To this day, I think the team still touches his saddle on their way onto the field.
