SMU should play and win the ACC. There was always going to be four SEC teams in this playoff. Even if it meant putting a slew of 9-3 teams in the 9-12 seeds. The committee’s justification is codified in their protocols that were posted on ESPN yesterday. Just listening to the committee chairman talk with Rece Davis last night reminded me of this gem of a rant. My favorite quote from this rant: “We don’t need to solve this on the field because we’re the ones that know”. All these years later and nothing has changed.

2024-25 Ducks Players Entering the Transfer Portal
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Sometimes when a guy that big comes in the S&C coaches will try to rebuild their bodies. This typically requires a lot of hard work from the player because there is a lot of dieting to go along with the conditioning. The player has to be extremely disciplined in order to make the transformation. I’m not saying this was the case, but it’s possible. -
I like how their own signing day discussion thread devolved into talking about Oregon.
-
USC might have some possible recruits we can flip.
-
This is great. But, as we learned last year choosing an Oregon hat on early signing day means nothing if they don't actually send in the written letter of athletic aid which replaces the old LOI.

Oregon just signed Dorian Brew. He is their highest rated 4-star.

I hope he'll be playing baseball as well.

Just this.

Right now, the only Oregon commit who is projected to flip is Dorian Brew to Ohio State.

Cure sticking with KSU.

There are still a few flips in the mix, but I understand the excitement of waiting for a guy to pick a hat. The Peyton Bowen situation was kind of exciting, but He flipped to OU pretty quickly after flipping to Oregon. I hope he enjoys the Birmingham bowl this year.

Dakorian has signed.

Future Football Playoffs Solved
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to QuackAttack's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Division II uses a pretty good model. They have 28 teams and it's only 5 weeks which would add one week to our playoffs. The only difference is they use regional playoffs until they get to the semi-finals (NE, SE, MW, West) which is due to money and travel. The top ranked team from each region gets a bye while the next six play the first round. They're down to 16 teams in week two and so on. 2024 Division II Football Official Bracket | NCAA.com WWW.NCAA.COM The official 2024 College Football Bracket for Division II. Early good news is OBD held off PSU for Brandon Finney Jr. Linkon cure will decide between Oregon and KSU at 11:30 MT. Updates to follow.

Lanning goes undefeated with only two first-team players and doesn’t win COY? I guess he should’ve played an easier schedule like Cignetti did.

Once the conference championship games are concluded things will change. If PSU loses they will drop below OSU in the final rankings because of the H2H loss. Texas and UGA will certainly change some seedings. The Dawgs would drop below Bama for sure due to their H2H loss. If Oregon loses they could drop to 5 or 6 depending on how the committee views Notre Dame. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time the Irish got their golden domes polished by the voters.

But What if We Lose the Big Ten Championship?
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to Thomallister1291's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
They actually have a set of protocols that they use (see article). The protocols are (in a nutshell) championships won, strength of schedule, head to head, common opponents, and other factors such as injured key players. This is what they’re using to fill the bracket with blue bloods. The committee chairman even stated tonight that it was a “possibility” that SMU could fall behind Bama if they lose to Clemson. That’s committee-speak for “If SMU loses the ACCCG they’re out”. One can read this article and deduce that the SEC is getting no less than 4 teams in this tournament. The protocols that the committee uses in this article might as well be labeled the “blue blood or SEC clause”. They place a pretty big emphasis on championships won, strength of schedule, availability of key players, etc. They’ve taken all the shady decisions from past committees and codified them. These protocols give them the justification to fill the tournament with SEC and B1G teams. How does College Football Playoff work? Oregon still at #1. I was surprised that Bama was 11th until I read the protocol that the committee uses. This is what leaves the door open for Bama to supplant SMU if they lose to Clemson. SMU’s best wins are Pitt and Louisville who are no longer ranked. Should be a fun weekend coming up. I thought Miami at #12 was interesting, but they have no shot at the playoff since the Big 12 Champ will move into the playoff. The only two teams in the top 12 right now that can be supplanted by their CCG opponents are Boise State and SMU. Nobody else stands a chance of moving out of the top 12 Alabama Crimson Tide land at No. 11 in the CFP's rankings - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Barring an upset in Saturday's ACC title game between Clemson and SMU, Alabama might be headed back to the College Football Playoff for the ninth time in the past 11 seasons, as the Crimson...

But What if We Lose the Big Ten Championship?
DrJacksPlaidPants replied to Thomallister1291's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Exactly my point. It may not be logical to us, but in their minds, they know exactly what they're doing. They looked like geniuses because Bama/UGA went to OT and was a great game. They looked like geniuses again in 2022 by letting Ohio State in to play UGA because they almost won on a last second FG. Then they looked like morons the next week for letting TCU in. So, they corrected the decision the following year by leaving an undefeated FSU team out because they thought they would get blown out. FSU never stood a chance of getting in last year because of what UGA did to TCU.
