  1. They are only rumors, but Arizona players and coaches all say Kelly Graves was not behaving like and adult during their game. There was an incident at the end of their game that had the Arizona coach giving the 1 finger salute to Kelly. Both Arizona players and coaches were saying he was continually cussing towards the Arizona bench. With the Arizona coach also giving the 1 finger salute last year, it makes it just a bit more difficult to believe. No word on if the Pac 12 is investigating the incident(s). If Kelly was cussing at the Arizona bench, that isn't a good look.
  2. I like the regular season meaning something. As much as I dislike the Patriots, when they went 16-0 in the regular season and ending up losing to the Giants in the SB, I thought it was a let down. I personally don't like "bad" teams getting hot. Example, UCLA last year during their NCAA run. I do however think the CFB should expand. I think nearly every professional league has too many playoff teams. NBA 20/30 make the playoffs 66% MLS 14/27 make the playoffs 51.8% NHL 16/32 make the payoffs 50% NFL 14/32 make the playoffs 43.8% MLB 10/30 make the playoffs 33 NCAA basketball 68/353 make the playoffs 19.26% CFB 4/125 make the playoffs 3.2% 12 would still leave the percentage of teams under 10%, I guess 12 isn't really all that many.
  3. I'm a bit tired of the Stanford academic requirements being used as an issue for them. For the most part, yes they have high standards, but not everybody is a 4.0 student with nearly perfect SAT/ACT scores that plays sports for them. Back in the 90's Stanford had at least some classes that allowed you to drop a class up to the final week of the term and not have it count against your GPA. Not sure if they still have those classes around. I honestly don't think their athletes have the same rigourous review. No, they aren't going to accept kids who barely passed high school, but to think every one of their kids is a valedictorian is silly. I think they like using that as an excuse.
  4. My personal way to force Notre Dame to move to a conference is never watch their games on NBC. If a significant number of people stopped watching their games, NBC would stop offering them a contract.
  5. Pac 12, ACC and Big 12 all should worry how the money is split. B1G ten and SEC are already light years ahead in TV money. Having half the teams being made up of B1G and SEC could make the money situation even worse. They can have as many teams as they want, but they can't get a substancially bigger piece of the money pie. I would hope all 3 of those conferences make it known, CFB isn't going to work the same as basketball.
  6. The announcing crew did go back to that Pass Interference and mentioned it was an uncatchable ball. I'm not able to find the NFL rule where it says if it matters if it is catchable or not. I would be OK with giving like a 5 yard penalty for the play that happened, but definitely not a spot foul.
  7. Some stats have been previously mentioned. Most total TDs as a rookie: 36 Most passing TDs as a rookie: 31 Most completions as a rookie: 396 Most 300 yard games as a rookie: 8 1st QB to throw 30+ TDs in their first 2 seasons. Most total TDs in their first 2 seasons: 77 Most passing yards in their first 2 seasons: 9,350 Most passing TDs in their first 2 seasons: 69 Most 300 yard games in their first 2 seasons: 17
  8. Both teams played 60 minutes before OT. I don't think anybody can feel sorry for the team that loses in OT. I hope Staley had the backing of the whole team before last night, because his bone head TO cost his team a playoff spot. I don't believe his comment about needing the correct defensive grouping on the field. He wanted the Raiders to be forced to punt and it blew up big time in his face. I also believe LV would have let the clock run out if Staley didn't call a TO. I get Staley likes to be aggressive, but he doesn't seem to always pick the right moments. Going for it on 4th down on you own 18 in the 3rd quarter was a bad decision. Just a hunch, but if Staley doesn't make the playoffs next season, I think he is going to be fired.
  9. “There’s a lot of other good teams, whether it was their consistency in performance or whatever happened to them in championship games or whatever, that may have had the opportunity to get in the playoffs that didn’t,” Saban said. “I’m not the one that needs to be deciding what the playoff needs to be. There’s a lot of good people out there that can make a decision as to what’s best for college football.” I don't think Saban cares either way. Pulling half a quote, isn't a hard stance IMO.
  10. It is a little crazy at this point, but the rich don't tend to burn money just for the heck of it. They aren't going to want to be continually burned by kids. Getting a kid in the transfer portal likely locks them in for 2 years, but paying High school kids is going to burn many alumni. Kids want to play. Most aren't going to sit on the bench just collecting a paycheck. They'll transfer out to a team they will get playing time. Texas is going to be paying a lot of OL their $50K and see them walk right out the door next season. I think the first few years are going to be absolutely crazy, but fingers crossed it settles down. I think the "super" star guys will always have the money, but OL and 3 guy on the depth chart not so much.
  11. SEC has to be careful, they might get left behind. If BIG, P12 and ACC all want 8, then they can go off and leave the SEC and B12. P5 conference champs and top G5 conference champ, plus 2 works. P5 also don't care about the G5 conferences either. SEC and G5 can go play each other. If B1G, P12, ACC and B12 are all smart, they limit the payout for playoffs. You can have as many teams as possible, but if you are splitting the pie, you can't have it split evenly 8 or 12 ways. You can get extra for a second team, but at 3 or more no way in my opinion. It won't be done that way, but it should be.
  12. 12 of 16 semifinal games have been decided by 17 or more points. 5 of 7 champions have been the 1 or 2 seed. tOSU in 2014 and Alabama in 2017 were the 4th seed. Saban has on many occassions says he doesn't care how many teams are in the playoffs. I'm not sure how the perception came about he cares. More teams will likely help distribute kids to more than the typical 4 teams. The number of stars for a kid is subjective, so restricting the number of 5 stars on a team won't work. The only thing I think that might be able to happen would be to reduce the number of scholarships per team to help distribute kids to more teams.
  13. I hope with CBS losing the SEC, they want to stay in the college football in a big way. I'd like to have multiple TV companies put in bids for the Pac 12. However, CBS only has 2 sport stations (CBS & CBS Sports), vs 3 for Fox (Fox, FoxSports 1, FoxSports 2) and 4 for ABC/ESPN (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNews).
  14. Big 12 signed a 13 year 2.6 billion dollar contract in 2012, for 20 mil per team per year. Here is article that says Big 12 could lose 50% of their TV value with the loss of Oklahoma and Texas. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2021/08/02/big-12-warns-of-losing-50-of-tv-value-following-utou-exit/117803982/ Pac 12 signed a 12 year 3.0 billion dollar contract in 2012. It will be very interesting to see what the contracts will be this next go around. Pac 12 will have a new TV deal after the 2024 season. Big 12 will have a new TV deal after the 2025 season. With the loss of Oklahoma and Texas, I don't see the Big 12 having a bigger TV contract than the Pac 12 with their next signings.
  15. When I gamble, I'm terrible, so when I say Alabama is going to cover the 13.5 by half time, don't put money on it. However, Cincinnati played by far the easiest schedule of the teams in the top 4. They played only 2 teams ranked in the top 50 of USA Today Jeff Sagarin rankings. His rankings are far from perfect, but he has all levels of football ranked. When you are given essentially 7 byes during a 13 week season, it is pretty easy to stay healthy. I think Alabama is going to make Cincinnati look like a G5 team that should have never been invited to the playoffs. When the playoffs expand, they'll always have a G5 team, but 9 out of 10 times, they will get slaughtered every year. The win against ND was nice, but it wasn't like ND played a great schedule. They played 4 teams with winning records: Cincinnati 13-0, Wisconsin 8-4, Purdue 8-4 and Toledo 7-6. Oklahoma St. is not only cover the 2.5, they are going to win out right. Notre Dame hasn't won a major bowl game since the 1994 Cotton Bowl, unless you count the Citrus Bowl in 2018 a major bowl. Cincinnati schedule: Team Score Rank Miami, OH (7-6) 49-14 88 Murry St. FCS (6-5) 42-7 190 at Indiana (2-10) 38-24 96 at Notre Dame (11-1) 24-13 5 Temple (3-9) 52-3 166 UCF (9-4) 56-21 56 at Navy (4-8) 27-20 97 at Tulane (2-10) 31-12 105 Tulsa (7-6) 28-20 75 at USF (2-10) 45-28 130 SMU (8-4) 48-14 51 at ECU (7-5) 35-13 81 Houston (11-2) 35-20 34
  16. I think the Ducks have been pretty lucky with the QB room. Not all of the multiple year starters were drafted, but every 2+ year starter was at the very least a good college QB. I don't remember Pete Nelson in 1988 or Ryan Perry-Smith in 1996. I was away in college in 1996, so that could be why I don't remember him. I came back in 1997 to finish my last 2 years at U of O. 1984 Chris Miller 2003 Kellen Clemens 1985 Chris Miller 2004 Kellen Clemens 1986 Chris Miller 1st, 13th 2005 Kellen Clemens 2nd, 49th 1987 Bill Musgrave 2006 Dennis Dixon 1988 Pete Nelson 2007 Dennis Dixon 5th, 156th 1989 Bill Musgrave 2008 Jeremiah Masoli 1990 Bill Musgrave 4th, 106th 2009 Jeremiah Masoli Not Drafted 1991 Danny O'Neil 2010 Darron Thomas 1992 Danny O'Neil 2011 Darron Thomas Not Drafted 1993 Danny O'Neil 2012 Marcus Mariota 1994 Danny O'Neil Not Drafted 2013 Marcus Mariota 1995 Tony Graziani 7th, 204th 2014 Marcus Mariota 1st, 2nd 1996 Ryan Perry-Smith Not Drafted 2015 Vernon Adams Not Drafted 1997 Akili Smith 2016 Justin Herbert 1998 Akili Smith 1st, 3rd 2017 Justin Herbert 1999 AJ Feeley 5th, 155th 2018 Justin Herbert 2000 Joey Harrington 2019 Justin Herbert 1st, 6th 2001 Joey Harrington 1st, 3rd 2020 Tyler Shough 2002 Jason Fife Not Drafted 2021 Anthony Brown
  17. Despite going 10-3, I don't think the Ducks did anything great over the whole season. The Ducks had a great game against tOSU, but other than that, they did just enough to win in their other games they won.
  18. 1 correction. It seems everybody remembers Dennis Dixon got hurt in the Arizona game. That is not how it happened. Dennis Dixon got hurt in the 4th quarter the game before against ASU. Dennis didn't finish the 1st series in the 4th and Brady Leaf had to finish the game. Oregon-ASU Oregon's What If 2007 Season
  19. I hope they have good data presented infront of them. The only Ducks I see as a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick this year is KT and Mckinley. Wright is a 4th round at best this year. Much easier said for a guy who doesn't have to make the decision, but if you aren't going to be in the top 3 rounds, going out early seems like a bad move. However, maybe next years draft has more guys in your position coming out, so maybe that is the reason for some of the guys to leave when they still have another year. I'm good on CJ and Dye. They are nice RBs, but I'm not scared of the RB position if both leave.
  20. Tony T. is 52. At first glance, I'm not impressed with his previous jobs. Hopefully, he turns out to be good.
  21. I agree, JM wanted out. I don't know how much control MC has of firing a guy during the season, but I guess JM didn't want to find out. I feel JM had near complete control of the play calling for the tOSU game and the UCLA game. Those two games stood out to me as a pretty large separation of how the other games were called. tOSU still had a high percentage of run plays, but they weren't the typical run plays Oregon ran during the season. UCLA we went to the air the most all season.
  22. USC Wire confuses me with what they are trying to sell. Maybe, I'm the dope, but I don't want my OL and DL coach teaching X's and O's per se. I want my OC and DC being the X's and O's teachers. From the little I know about any of the coaches mentioned, they are good at their job coaching the OL and DL. I thought that is what a team wants? I love the comparison of how T. Lawrence crushed a team one of the guys was a DL coach. Yeah, because your team lost to a guy who appears to be a generational talent is how you should judge the coach.
  23. NIL changed everything. I can see a minor league forming, but the way NCAA is set up, it can't be with University ties. College football and men's basketball will be dramaticaly different in 5 years. The change hasn't fully hit and I'm not sure if most fans are going to be happy when we see the end product. I hope I'm wrong, but two of my favorit sports to watch might become something to turn to if nothing else is on. Deion Sanders is getting paid 1.2 million. A few college kids are getting paid more than him. NCAA limited scholarships in 1973. Yes, some teams were able to have an exhorbiant number of kids on a team back in the day, but that was when there were only 2 or 3 college games on for the whole weekend. Yeah, a kid is going to love to walk on to a team and take home 50K, but that kid is also going to want to see the field. He'll take his talents else were the next season. NCAA still has some control of football teams. Once they see teams hiding players as walk-ons, I do see them limiting the number of kids on a team. Looking at GoDucks.com, the Ducks have 130 kids on the roster. I know rosters are a bit bloated right now because of extra years granted because of COVID. However, before COVID it was common for schools to have 110-120 kids on their roster. Make a rule where you limit the number of kids on a roster regardless of scholarship or not.
  24. I think less trees would be better. It is so packed, most of it doesn't look like trees.
  25. There are millions of people who apply for a job, interview for a job and then don't accept the job. I know I have done it. There are plenty of reasons for applying and then turning down a job. That isn't atypical.
