  1. Sad days. I didn't even think of that. If Stanford wins out, they win the North. Even if the Ducks were to win out, they wouldn't be conference champions if Stanford doesn't lose another game. I guess we could get the whole tOSU vs Penn St. debate of 2016, but the Pac 12 would have to have a solid pecking order of good teams vs bad teams.
  2. Jonathan Smith is 13-23, 9-18 in the Pac 12, as a head coach for the Beavers. Not exactly a reason to hitch your wagon to the hype train he is getting. 4-1 is a great start, but let's see if he can have a winning season first, then back to back winning seasons. Mario is 29-11, 17-8 as the Oregon head coach. He has back to back Pac 12 championships and 1 Rose Bowl win. I'm absolutely not 100% happy with Mario, but as many bells and whistles Oregon has, it is still a very hard place to attract the top coaches. Any established coach at a top football program isn't going to come to Oregon. We'd need to find another Chip Kelly that is not established.
  3. I'm of the philosphy of never leave points in the first half or go chasing points in the first half. Ducks needed to kick the FG just before half time. I understand it is the butterfly effect of, if they kick that FG, the game changes. However, I assume the rest of the game essentially plays out the same because it was so close to the end of the 1st half. Tons of could have, would have, should have in the 4th quarter for the Ducks.
  4. I think the Oregon women will win their 1st game, but lose in the 2nd round. The guys got a tough draw with their likely 2nd round opponent in Iowa. The Ducks have nobody who will be able to guard Garza.
  5. It is all about the money. The conference tournament is an easy way for conferences to make even more money. I think it is a bit silly for .500 or below to win their conference bid, but those are the rules. We love Cinderella runs, but in the end it doesn't matter. Villanova in 1985 was the lowest seed ever to win the tournament as the 8 seed. They were in a stacked Big East back then and were ranked in the top 20 for most of the season. All it does is bump out another medicore team.
  6. I don't have a problem with schools saying other in-conference schools are not an option for transfers, unless they are in the kids home state. A kids home state schools, should never be allowed to be blocked. I understand these are 18-20 year old kids and they make mistakes in choosing which school to go to. However, there are 125-130 Division 1 football schools. Reducing the option by 10-14 schools isn't a huge burden to the kids.
  7. Two different sites giving different players the same award. Happens all the time. AP gave it Duarte, Pac 12 gave it to Mobley. I find it odd another site is handing out conference awards, but OK.
  8. I think the pollsters don't like the close game wins. Looking really bad against USC didn't help. Win their 1st game in the P12 and they don't fall below a 6 seed. Win the P12 tournament and I believe they could move up to a 4 seed. As it has been said before regular season basketball rankings mean very little. It is nice to be recognized, but meaningless when we get down to it. With the way the guys are playing, sweet 16 seems like the floor.
  9. I'm not sure Kiper or McShay do "true" analysis of players, even though they say so. They are talking heads there to sell headlines and content. How serious can you really take McShay when he has the first 4 picks being QBs this year? They are knowledgeable for sure, but true scouts they are not. Their draft order also, isn't based on skill, but what they think the teams will do. However, they love to create discussion. McShay has the Eagles taking a TE with their pick and prefaces it with, Despite the Eagles' glaring weakness at wide receiver, I'm mixing it up with Pitts at No. 6. How much more obvious can they make it, they just throw stuff at the wall and don't care if it sticks or not?
  10. There is always a 1st time, but no team has made the playoffs with 2 losses. That is a ton of chaos if multiple teams are being looked at for the playoffs with 2 losses. In 2016 Penn St. won the B1G TEN with 2 losses and didn't get in. They beat tOSU, but since tOSU only had 1 loss, they got in over Penn St. The committee says they look at everything, but in reality it is the number of losses they look at first for Power 5 teams. If you have zero, you are in. If you have 1 loss and there aren't 4 teams with 0 losses, you get a look. If you have 2 losses, there can't be 4 teams with 0 or 1 loss from a Power 5 conference.
  11. I know Toronto has tried, but man I wish Chris could put on more weight. I hope he can withstand the vigors of NBA ball at that weight.
  12. He seems quick and shifty like DAT. Move the kid around. Have him play RB and WR.
  13. I went to North Eugene high school. My graduating class had under 200 students. North Eugene is the smallest high school in Eugene after Marist, which is a private school. Sheldon and South Eugene are the biggest and both sit around 2000 students 9-12. I couldn't imagine my class having 1500 students.
  14. I understand all the praise. If I remember correctly, Penei had the best football season ever by a Offensive Lineman. The kid has allowed zero sacks, that is amazing.
  15. 6 Ducks made the list from nfl.com Brady Breeze Austin Faoliu Thomas Graham Jr Jevon Holland Deommodore Lenoir Penei Sewell
  16. A Pac 12 1 loss team would definitely be in the conversation for a final 4 berth. If it is Oregon and the 1 loss is vs tOSU, who also will likely be in the discussion, we'd have a real good chance. As always, it is who you lost to and when. In 2016 UW played one of the easiest NC schedule in the nation and got a bid with only 1 loss against a 5-7 ASU team.
  17. Uncle Phil has been a huge help to put Oregon where they are at today. If Oregon doesn't get the Moshofsky Center built, I'm not sure we are where we are today. Uncle Phil has paid for essentially every big thing in Oregon football since 1998. It hasn't been 100%, but if he doesn't donate, we likely wouldn't have it. However, U of O has about 2/3 the student population as UW. They have many, many more alumni to donate.
  18. Every Pac 12 game/meet is being video recorded regardless of the pandemic because that is what teams do, so they can watch film later. They have the platform in place, so it really is only production that is needed. Seeing how they do have producers on the staff, if there isn't any basketball going on you can have a producer doing the P12 swimming championships. I don't see anything extra being spent. Of course, I don't know all the in and outs, but everything is already in place, it doesn't seem like there is any extra cost.
  19. I'm not sure why a lot of people completely ignore the fact Tom Brady and his team were caught cheating twice. Does anybody want to be like Lance Armstrong as a cyclist? Does anybody want to be like Barry Bonds in baseball? It wasn't performance enhancing drugs, but filming team walk throughs is a big deal for game planning. Getting a better grip on footballs is a big deal for QBs. Tom's first 3 Super Bowl wins were by 3 points each. That is a difference of a few plays. Not sure why anybody would want to hitch their wagon with a known cheater.
  20. Wish Kayvon would be a Duck when the kid would be on campus to help him lean towards being a Duck.
  21. I can't remember all the "wasted" time outs, but I'm not sure that is always on Mario. If the OC doesn't get the play down to the field fast enough, then the QB can't go through the pre play progression. I have no doubt Mario has bungled TOs, but I'd say some also were on the OC not getting the play in with enough time to the QB. With the consistent 3 yards and a clouds of dust and Mario repeatedly saying he wants to instill his will on the O and D lines, I'd say he has a ton of say in the offensive play calling. This has been through 2 OCs. Pretty hard not to hook that on Mario's wagon. He needs to let his OC make the calls during the game. Mario can have his input before the game while they are discussing the game plan.
  22. Go Ducks. It would be nice if the Ducks finished high enough to get a 1st round bye in the Pac 12 tournament.
  23. Seems like it would be illegal. If the money is donated private money for stadiums, locker rooms, etc, it doesn't seem like you can prevent universites to spend that money. What about the private universities, they wouldn't have to follow the same rules. I don't like the arms race college sports has become, but I'm not sure they have done a lot of thinking about this bill. I know Oregon does some ads with their athletes, but not much. Also, I'm not sure they get paid any money. More likely they pay people to show or display their ads. How do you quantify image and likeness where there are no 100% factual numbers.
  24. I think it was to be expected. Mariota was the highest paid backup QB in the NFL. Pretty hard to have a competative team when you tie that much money up on a player that hardly sees the field. Mariota will get a chance to start on another team in 2021.
  25. QBs on the Ducks roster. 2018 recruits: Bradley Yaffe, preferred walk on 2020 recruits: Jay Butterfield, Robby Ashford Transfers: Anthony Brown 2021 recruit: Ty Thompson Anthony Brown is for sure in his last season and I'm guessing Ashford/Butterfield will be gone at the end of the season or in the middle of 2021. I have never heard of Yaffe. As a preferred walk-on, I don't see him playing into the competetion. That leaves 2 QBs on the roster. That is pretty thin, but with the free season for Ashford/Butterfield, they will still have 4 seasons left, if they were to redshirt in 2021. However, if TT were to win the position, I'm not sure I can see either staying and being backup for 3 or 4 seasons. Remember verbal commitments mean close to nothing. If Oregon is down to 1 QB going into the 2022 season, you can bet QB recruits will be taking a 2nd look at Oregon. If TT or Butterfield win the job, they will have only 3 seasons left. A recruit will likely think they will reshirt 1 season and then win the job the next season. All is not lost yet with verbal commits.
